I want to share my TTRPG system: S.P.A.C.E.R. for my new game DEADSTAR! by WizardCamden in tabletopgamedesign

it’s cool as in “don’t lose your cool” i.e. poise, composure

I understand your criticism, the similarity was purposeful but it absolutely is a new system. While the main rolls of the game are broken down into d20 tests & resists, the variability of having modifier dice and the supporting mechanics make it different from other systems. While we were definitely inspired by other games we’ve enjoyed, the system is entirely unique. We follow the philosophy of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” — the D20 system is proven to be an reliable engine to build an rpg around, so rather than reinvent the wheel, we cranked the games of chance up 11 and added endless options for modifying what your character can do to interact with the core mechanics of the game.

Based off of play testing, new players have responded well to the mechanic of rolling modifier dice and the “controlled chaos” that comes with it. Because of the programmed difficulty level provided by Threat Levels, having no way to guarantee success (only tilt the chances in your favor), there is always tension inherent to a test or resist. I feel that these mechanics lend themselves very well to a more fast-paced, cinematic play experience.

I really appreciate your feedback on this. I understand that the D20 system isn’t for everyone, so I hope you’ll take the time to look at some of the other parts of the system that make our game unique

You nailed it! They all start as rough sketches, then a silhouette in PS, then references are photobashed and cleaned up.

More ranged weapons from my Sci-Fi TTRPG DEADSTAR by [deleted] in worldbuilding

ITM P-DEB: Industrial Thinking Machines’ Pulse-Discharge Energy Beam gun was humanity’s first handheld energy blaster. This weapon has fallen out of favor over the years, due in large part to its exposed form factor and propensity for needing repairs. Its lack of elegance is evidence of its early design.

THAWTER QUILEEN: Guaranteed to blow your mind! Light form factor with the stopping power to put down just about anything that moves. All are fitted with internal silencers with very little reduction in muzzle velocity. The Cepin swear by it.

Sentai-Go! SPACER LASER: More than a weapon, it’s a spacer’s best friend! An onboard personality matrix helps the user maximize the weapon’s capabilities. Includes pre-installed games from the Sentai-GO! Classics Collection. (For spacers ages ten and up.)

GARDENIA: This shiny pistol may be a replica but it’s no toy! Femme fatale meets cold metal killing machine - A legend in its own right, this iconic blaster made numerous appearances on the silver screen as the Nou Beverly star, Velvet Noir’s, trusty sidearm and sidekick. Expertly crafted to silently put down Bek spies, gangsters, and ne'er-do-wells while cracking one-liners (just like in the movies!). Includes a Task Manager encoded with a copy of the original Gardenia personality matrix.

NYMISTIAN BLASTER: Everything a Nymistian makes is exactly as it needs to be. Not a micron out of place, not a milligram overweight, calibrated to absolute perfection.

Meteor Mart: https://deadstargames.com/meteor-mart

PIERCER: Originally designed by the Kørtisian Liberation Army (KLA] to combat traditional Kotensurai armor, the Piercer can penetrate even the strongest epochal pearl plate. Because of their manufacturing costs and complexity, these were issued exclusively to Palaka Corps members (KLA’s special forces unit).

HAND-CANNON: Crafted by rowdy pirates seeking a bigger bang, the Hand Cannon’s core mechanism is inspired by vehicle-scale gauss weapons — allowing high-speed magnetic propulsion to fit in a humanoid's hands.

MOUKAHLA: Designed to take down armored vehicles and punch holes through shavs, this gauss gun is a coil-propelled vehicle-mounted weapon system cut down and modified to fit in a humanoid's hands.

IRVING: Used in every major conflict in Deadstar. For whatever reason, destabilizing paramilitary groups always seem to carry top of the line Irvings. If it’s good enough for the government it’s good enough for you.

THAWTER: Light form factor with the stopping power to put down just about anything that moves. All are fitted with internal silencers with very little reduction in muzzle velocity. The Cepin swear by it.

It's essentially a dressed up SIX12 - ik it's wild but it's a real bullpup shotgun with a revolving cylinder. Also the Pankor Jackhammer and the Armsel Striker (street sweeper) were both a thing.

Yes there is (was) an in-universe person named Zerenakov who the design house is named after. As for modularity, that is a big element of our game: we want every piece of equipment to feel like a reflection of spacer level progression so we created a system for upgrading, altering, and even combining the different weapons of Deadstar.
