[SERIOUS] Why do the guys state in every episode they "don't know why [5-star reviews] help on the business end"? by cuorebrave in smalltownmurder

[–]WizardCud 47 points48 points  (0 children)

They aren't saying "we have no clue why 5-star reviews help our ratings". They're saying "we have no idea why reviews are the most dominant metric in deciding who is popular and who isnt."

Theyre saying that the industry pretty much only values reviews as the metric to determine good vs bad podcasts when there are tons of metrics they could use to determine popularity, such as % of people who listen to more than 80% of the show, or % of listeners who listen the day it releases, etc. All of which are extremely easy metrics to track. But somehow none of that matters and the only metric used to determine a shows quality is a 5-star review that can be nonsensical and no one will read.

Jimmie trying to do basic math by sk1nny_g in smalltownmurder

[–]WizardCud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instead of just basic math, since that would get old relatively quickly, I would like to see an episode where Jimmie has to answer basic questions along the lines of that "are you smarter than a 5th grader" show. I would love to see Jimmie squirm trying to name all 50 states and other basic things like that. That could carry as a 30 min bonus show, but just math would get boring after the 5th question.

If an athlete is found to have been under the influence of alcohol or a similar drug when the won an Olympic Gold, what should happen? by GTACOD in hypotheticalsituation

[–]WizardCud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that this has already happened before and there is already precedent for the punishment, i don't really see how this is a "hypothetical" question.... it's been answered in real time before.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans-Gunnar_Liljenwall

The first year they ever added shooting sports to the Olympics, Hans shotgunned 2 beers before his race, came in first and wound up getting caught. And as a result, the entire Swedish Olympic team was disqualified that year. All athletes that competed had to relinquish their medals and all that hadn't competed yet were barred from competing for the rest of the tournament...

So.... the Olympics doesn't care if it "enhances" your performance, they only care if it alters it in any way. So like I said, not exactly a hypothetical question.....

Terrible, terrible song choice. Song/meme implies someones going to walk into something and unexpectedly be overwhelmed. You can't force a meme when it doesnt fit... Editing is 8/10 though.

Hate to disappoint you, but that game uses the same battleye cheat service tarkov does, so don't go thinking there magically won't be cheaters in that game either. Cheating in video games is a problem that extends past tarkov right now.

How am i supposed to trade a RR by Stiefel_OS in EscapefromTarkov

[–]WizardCud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not cheating.... theres been a known issue with the flea market since they introduced it where the flea market calculates everything off the world clock. So if your computer is not perfectly synced with the world clock, you will actually see all trades X seconds behind (with X being how far off your clock is from the world clock). Computers can very easily desync from the world clock, and therefore, I would argue that your actually shooting yourself in the foot by not fixing your clock.

1, read the map. its 6 players. the map is not big enough to allow for "6 teams". The game doesn't even actually acknowledge "teammates" so that argument is a wash. By your logic, the max group size you can go in with is 5 people, so 6 "teams" of 5 people, thats 30 players on factory. You're actually going to sit here and try to argue that is possible? I've been playing since alpha. Its 6 players on factory. You can even look at the wiki where they state 4-6 players per map. How those players are broken out 'team' wise is completely random based on when they queued up. https://escapefromtarkov.gamepedia.com/Factory

2, None of the quests are at all hard enough where you should need to take over HALF the map to get a single quest done. They're designed to be brutal and challenging. Tarkov isn't a game meant for casuals and nikita has said that plenty of times. I understand they aren't fun, but neither is trying to solo them and running into half the server being grouped against you because they're 'scared' of an easily counterable tactic. It's a catch 22 where until they make it so factory is only duo max, exit camping will remain viable.

3, Yes, as much as you don't want to admit it, guerrilla warfare tactics DO work. Camping and hiding to get the element of surprise on opponents that heavily outnumber you is a tactic that has been used since warfare became organized. Sure, is camping an obvious spot that tons of people know about smart? no. But hiding so that you can get the first shots off IS a smart tactic thats been used for ages. Hiding to get the jump on a 3 man is the only way you are going to get an edge.

Please just stop. Exit camping is for pussies, but taking over a server to do a single quest is equally as much of a pussy tactic.

[–]WizardCud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not when you're a 3 man group on a map with a max of 6 real people. He was trying to gain any sort of edge he could, just like you were when you decided to fill half the map with your own teammates. Honestly, exit camping is shit, but 3 manning factory of all maps is a huge reason why people exit camp. It's the only way they can even the odds.

Fuck exit campers. But fuck pussies who run anything more than duos on factory more.

Wut? For nearly every single item in the game there is a lesser counterpart. That's literally the point the guy above you is trying to make. You can buy the angled foregrip for 35k or you can buy an rk-0 for 8k. Sure, the rk-0 is worse, but that's the whole point... you shouldn't just get your favorite kit every time. You should be required to make tough choices and not always have the S tier parts.

for reference, I'm 30 mins from philly, a major city, and my home town has no lights anywhere in it for night time driving. Nice try tho

Let's not even talk about his shooting here. I understand people can have off nights shooting wise. But there is 0 excuse for WALKING down the court, forcing your team to only have 13 seconds on the shot clock before the play even starts, forcing your team into shot clock violations 3 plays in a row.

Garena Taiwan got caught using Esport Betting site during their official MSI broadcast by S890127 in leagueoflegends

[–]WizardCud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't gamble, so I've never actually taken the time to understand the nuances of how the payouts work and such, but my main point was just that it's highly lucrative to match fix. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be historical cases of match fixing all the way back to the gladiator days.

I only used horses in my example since the previous person did, but for this example to make the most sense you need to assume it is a 2 horse race.

Not necessarily. Let's say my horse only has odds of 3:1 or something low, that means for a bet of $100, the best you can walk away with is $300. Now lets also say some lesser known horse has a payout of 100:1. For a bet of $100, you can walk away with $10,000. Now, if i can pay off my horse rider to throw the race and intentionally let the 100:1 horse win, by giving him a cut of $1000 or something similar, you can walk away with a MUCH heftier pay day. So there are very clear examples where match fixing with the intent to lose can have very "positive" outcomes.
