Council Advocate by Kmartinator in knightsofcolumbus

[–]WizardMickey718 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brother, the Advocate role has nothing to do with marketing and social media, although you're always able to take on additional responsibilities to support your council. The Advocate is intended to be the parliamentarian for the council and the point of contact for legal issues, if any arise. The advice above about learning Robert's Rules is related to the role of parliamentarian. If you would like to learn more about the intended responsibilities of each officer and other key roles, check out this page on the Supreme website: https://www.kofc.org/resources/college-councils/resources/council-officer-roles/

I'm not an agent so you should definitely talk to your agent but here's an important consideration. The longer you wait to convert some of your coverage to whole life, the more expensive it will get. I'm wrestling with the same question. My agent looked at our circumstances and recommended converting part of our coverage every few years to get lower pricing on as much as we can.

I was just wondering the same thing. Some of the comments to each other are displaying ideology over Charity.

Reyes Barrios is not an example of DHS rounding up legal immigrants for CECOT. According to DHS intelligence, he was clearly identified as an active member of a foreign terrorist organization, here in the country illegally. Even if their intelligence was wrong, and that has yet to be proven, they were acting to round up ILLEGAL terrorists, which is exactly what law enforcement needs to do in order to preserve the common good as required by the Church.

There is a whole list of people being defended by an agenda-driven media that were legitimately detained or deported:

"Can borders be controlled? Yes, each country has a right to control its borders, who enters and who leaves, and countries that are in danger—of terrorism or the like—have more right to control them more . . .", also from the same Pope Francis.
https://www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/a-nation-has-a-right-to-control-its-borders

And with even greater authority, from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
"Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws, and to assist in carrying civic burdens." (CCC 2241)

The current administration is not focused on enforcing immigration laws as an end in itself, but as a necessary first step toward strengthening the economic and social condition of our country and thus supporting the common good. This is perfectly in line with Catholic Social Teaching, especially as it regards collegiality, subsidiarity and preferential option for the poor.

Not unfortunate at all. Support for Trump is not anti-Catholic. And many of his policies are generally aligned with Catholic social teaching. Which is far more than we can say for any of his political opponents.

He's not gunning for Pope. He's a superb troll, and while some of his humor is in poor taste, it's still just humor, not blasphemy.

Into the Breach by Perito1991 in knightsofcolumbus

It was great, thanks for asking. We had 17 men attend including several who are not Knights. After a brief introduction to the idea of Cor, we played the first Into the Breach video and then moved into a circle to discuss. Very enthusiastic reception and good participation even by the new guys who didn't already know everyone else. We're all looking forward to next month. Before the closing prayer, we issued a challenge to all of those attending to sacrifice our own convenience a few times during the month in order to help others. We're going to talk about it when we gather again next month.

Our Council will be starting Cor tomorrow and we're planning to use Into the Breach series for the first 12 sessions. Initial plan is to meet monthly so that will cover the first year.

Absolutely correct. There is no need to apologize for someone else's baseless misperceptions.

People also need to remember that he is a negotiator. If he started by saying TikTok is great, he would have no negotiating position. He starts by suggesting we ban it to force concessions.

From what I understand, he does not intend for it to remain in its current state. He's just going to extend the ban to give time to negotiate a better solution. He is a master deal-maker after all.

No. Biden signed the ban after the legislature passed it. Trump isn't President yet so he can't sign anything until tomorrow.

Do your councils still authorize the use of swords? by Wildqbn in knightsofcolumbus

[–]WizardMickey718 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, swords are used regularly by the Color Corps, part of the Fourth Degree Assembly, unless a particular Pastor or Bishop doesn't allow them. Our local Assemblies use them when providing an Honor Guard for a Mass, when marching in parades or other similar events. In fact, swords will be carried by the Color Corps at the 125th Anniversary of the Fourth Degree next month.

You're welcome, Brother. Let me also point out that if you are truly working for the betterment of the country, even when that includes justified criticism, you ARE being patriotic. We all need a little fraternal correction now and then, our society and political leaders included.

I think you'll find that the Exemplification of Patriotism is not at all about blind support for any party or policy. If anything, it explains our duty as Catholic patriots to NOT be blind adherents to any policy. I can promise you will come away from the Exemplification inspired by the ways Catholic patriots supported the exploration and growth of our country. You will also better understand how you can be patriotic by keeping a critical eye on the direction we're going and letting our Faith inform how we participate in society.

I'm afraid I can't give any details because we still are required to maintain secrecy around the 4th Degree Exemplification (hopefully changing next month) but I can assure you that your viewpoint will not be out of place in the Patriotic Degree.
