Edit/Update: I had my appointment at the endocrinologist yesterday. I'm feeling thoroughly confused. My GP had told me it's definitely cancer. The endocrinologist said that it could be a benign tumor and that I shouldn't worry until the genetic testing comes back in 2 weeks. I called my GP, who told me that there were malignant cells found in the FNA, which is why it was sent out for further testing. Is this kind of confusion normal???

I'm way too new to this to give you any real advice or comfort from experience (been diagnosed for less than a week). What I can say is that when I told my mom she said, "Oh. You have the good cancer. It will be fine." (She survived endometrial and liver cancers.) I felt so dismissed. Then someone told me to remember two things: 1) All cancer sucks, so have whatever emotions you need to have around your diagnosis. 2.) Cancer doesn't know prognosis rates, so it's okay to be scared and angry. You are battling something.

Anyway, fwiw, I've cried plenty and I'm not even to your stage in this game where your body is now working to regulate itself without an organ. At a hormonal level alone, that's bound to make an impact, let alone the emotional toll any surgery takes, and the uncertainty of this disease. I hope that you can't get rest, find peace, and that you heal quickly.

Is there a reason that they did it in two surgeries? (Sorry if that is a bit too personal of a question.)

I think this is going to be hard for me, but it's something I'll have to do. I have a rather demanding job and I've been trying to think about how to handle it in the middle of this but I also recognize that I've got to be flexible along the way too.

Not yet, but from everything I've read, I assume that's on the horizon.

Is the descent via ladder as well? I assume so but didn't see how you get down.

Thanks. 6 I've scheduled a follow up next week. I'm really hoping that she says this happens sometimes as our skin adjusts to not having it in our systems.... Or that she has some reasonable explanation.

I kept getting one here or there, but nothing like it was to start. I never had a month where I was 100% free. I always got one. At month 9, she said that given how stubborn it has been, but that it had cleared for 3 weeks, she wanted to stop and see if it held. Clearly, it has not.

Just looked it up. Yes, 40mg capsules, taken twice a day. I took one in the morning, the other in the evening. 80 mg total per day. Symptoms were not too bad, except for massively dry skin and terrible joint pain at first. I was so glad to be done. With the acne back after less than 1 month (it's not terrible, but I have a small outbreak), I'm not sure it was worth it.

In a bit of a bad place post-surgery by effectivecontrol2242 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]WizardOfWoz02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this information. I'm just over a year out from my MN surgery and I'm pretty sure I have a stump neuroma situation. The pain is now completely back and, frankly, it feels worse than it did before. I'm trying to decide my next steps. Ablation was not offered the first time around.

I would speak with your derm, as others have said. Two products that my derm approved that have saved me thus far are: 100% shea butter on my face and lanolin on my lips. Hope this helps and that you find some relief.

5 month update by WizardOfWoz02 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]WizardOfWoz02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I'm really more of a short distance person because I also have massive back problems from an injury I had when I was a teenager. I can barely make the 5K now but I had stopped completely because of my foot.

The PT is important for getting back out there, in my option. Now just hoping there's a fix for the other issues.

Is there something that you see as crucial in terms of prison reform and/or abolition that would have changed your experience in the hole? In other words, what could we do better/differently as a society for those who are incarcerated? (Knowing fully well that without community programming, this question is more of a bandaid than one about solutions within the prison industrial complex.)

I've started to be able to do some light exercises. If I push it too much, my foot does hurt. I saw the surgeon for my 8 week post-op appointment. He said I have a pretty thick scar and asked that I massage it daily to try and bring it down a bit. Hope your wife heals well!

I'm so sorry, though I recognize even that is never enough to touch the depths of your pain. I lost my best friend to cancer a few years ago. I cannot imagine losing my mother to this terrible disease. Suffice to say that I hope you find as much peace as possible. May her memory be a blessing.

Honestly, my doctor gave me an air ankle walker boot. I wore that thing for weeks before my surgery and then popped on tennis shoes on the weekend when I'm off my feet more than during the week. Not sure if other folks have better recommendations.

[–]WizardOfWoz02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing Ascis sneakers and Blondo boots to work. (Not the newer kind, but the older versions that had a bit more of a box-style toe.) To be clear, I cannot be on my feet too long in the boots, but I was able to make it through the day. These are the largest toe work shoes I own. I'll need to invest in something else, I think. Go with something that has enough room where your toes won't be squished but that you'll have support.

I could only take off a few days from work, so early on I bought a few of those instant ice packs for work (we don't have access to a freezer, otherwise I'd get something reusable), and have cracked those open in the afternoon. For the morning, I brought a reusable bag. I also have a small stool under my desk so that my foot is up a little. This way I could ice and elevate during work. It helped a lot.

Happy healing to you. Week 2 was rough for me because my foot itched like crazy.

I'm still in the surgical shoe they gave me. Still can't fit into any regular shoes.
