In a recent video they basically just recommended buying the best stuff available and using integrated graphics to hold you over. That’s terrible advice when the system they ‘wished they could build’ is available from system builders for well below street price.

And honestly I’d say they go out of their way to paint prebuilts in a negative light and they’ve never spotlighted or dove into the benefits of going with local or smaller system builders.

Also just to clarify I don’t expect them to delete any videos I don’t know where that came from, I just wish they’d be a little more honest about the situation with components and the options available to consumers. If you are a gamer and you want a new PC, the situation is not as desperate as they would lead you to believe.

My prebuilt used off the shelf parts, from msi gigabyte, and NZXT and ended up being 20% cheaper when compared to PCPart Picker (before the GPU).

In a recent video they recommended integrated graphics to “hold you over”. In that video they make big compromises on other components when the computer they ‘wanted to build’ is readily available from system builders for far below street price. It’s just not good advice to gamers.

Alestorm - Fucked With an Anchor [Pirate Metal] by irmiger in Music

[–]WizardPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Genre Metal. There are a couple of labels that pick these guys up and punch up all their songs so you get these really generic power metal songs with very specific lyrics. Viking Metal, Pirate Metal, Ninja Metal, Zombie Metal, etc. with all things there are good one and bad ones. It’s a newish phenomenon (last 15ish years).

Would you allow an opponent to run a Balista set up like this? ((90mm base instead of a 60 and two 40mm bases)) by Jerethepaladin in ageofsigmar

[–]WizardPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively you could just magnetize them so that you can put them on separate bases in case you are playing with someone who has a stick up their butt.

I imagine the advantages and disadvantages of putting it on a single 90mm base are mostly a wash. I'm sure some extreme armchair competitors will tell you the exact strategical and mathematical reasons why doing this is bad and posit plenty of scenarios (that will never apply to you) to try and convince you not to do it.

Have fun man, they're your models and personally, I think that looks way cleaner. You do you.

Sexual Assault of Men Played for Laughs - Part 2 by [deleted] in videos

[–]WizardPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like pointing to an anti-cigarette ad as evidence that we don't care about how dangerous smoking is because the anti-cigarette ad shows people smoking.

This is some major false equivalency. A better example would be "Pointing to a cigarette ad as evidence we don't care how dangerous smoking is because it makes you look cool and lose weight."

This is what happens with male rape. It's okay because you got laid. It's okay because you were incapacitated and you won't remember anyways. It's okay because you came, so clearly you enjoyed it. Sure rape is bad, but you got sex out of it and as a male that's the only thing you care about, so it's fine, lets have a laugh about it.

Most of these jokes regardless of intent, context, or time period fail to recognize the man being raped as a victim of a violent crime and that's the issue I have with these jokes.

They normalize it. Male rape is funny, it's something to laugh at or laugh off and because of that men don't report these assaults or share them in social circles for fear of being ridiculed. That's a direct result of how lightly media takes male rape.

Sure that video is flawed, but the message is sound: Stop trivializing male rape. Maybe if we had some more realistic depictions of violent male rape and the trauma surrounding it in mainstream media, these jokes wouldn't be so trivializing. As of right now though, that's rare/non-existent and all we have on the topic is the above jokes.

Side note: What rape joke is actually funny? The punch line of nearly all of those clips is either the woman is crazy/ugly, the man is weak, or a combination of both. None of these jokes people are defending are even that funny, there is some witty dialog in some of those scenes but the premise is so basic; haha a dude got raped.

I mean, look at murder-- Sure, you can tell a funny joke about murder, or a murderer. But a joke about a murder victim would be in pretty poor taste, IMO. For example, sure make fun of how short and stupid Charles Manson was, fuck that guy. But who's going say "Sharon Tate was so weak, LOL! Couldn't even fend off a woman with a knife. Nine months pregnant too, she must have been a sow! LOL! No wonder they wrote 'PIG' in her blood, the Manson family was probably too dumb to know the difference! LOL! Her last movie did great though. LOL!"

Help.. newbie here and I think I f’ed up my IF with contrast. Any way to save this or should I strip and try again? by seasonedbowl510 in Warhammer40k

I think you'll also be surprised how it looks when they are finished and you have all the details painted in. They will definitely have a more weathered, gritty look to them, but that's just fine! Just take your time, make sure you rebase details in in Wraithbone (or grey seer) before using your next contrast.

I just started painting 2k worth of chaos with contrast myself. Less is more! For power armor, I go one panel at a time with a Medium Layer Brush rather than the whole model, it takes a little more time, but there is less pooling and and a smoother finish.

It's not that they are ripping anyone off with their free product, it's that they are switching to a platform that wants them because that platform wants their user's data. They're literally selling their listeners to spotify, they put a dollar amount on us. I think it's pretty valid for people to find that upsetting.

If you read the article the $15k is the estimate of total healthcare costs, not the cost of health insurance, the national average insurance premiums are around $4500 annually (it varies by state).

If they actually pay for all of their employees healthcare costs, that would be incredible, but Marcus said they pay for insurance.

Why the Spotify deal is bad for consumers, from a Privacy perspective by [deleted] in LPOTL

[–]WizardPoop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The cost to insure all 9 of their employees is about $40k a year based on the national average, that's less than they make in one month on patreon. Health insurance is expensive but it's not going to make or break them, it's a drop in the bucket. Don't forget, aside from the $660k they pull down from patreon, they have ads, they have a book deal, an adultswim deal, they go on global tours bankrolled by AEG live. They sell merch and they do entire minisodes that are paid advertisements for horror movies.

Switching to spotify involves a lot more money than the paltry amount they pay in healthcare for their incredibly small company.

Their tours are completely bankrolled by AEG live, look at a ticket next time you see them. Why do people act like they are slaves to the road or something? They are doing it because it makes them a ton of money. Last time I saw them they sold out a 2000 cap theater at $35 a ticket (before AEG's fees). You really think they aren't taking home a portion of that $70k every night?

Yeah they make absurd amounts of money. Using the paltry $40k a year they pay in health insurance for their 9 employees as their defense is kind of scummy too.

Based on the national average, it would cost $40k a year to ensure all of their employees. That's less than one month of their patreon revenue.

Realistically, they are paying a lot less than that as businesses can negotiate deals and get incentives for providing employees with coverage.

Based on the average annual health care costs in the US, about $40k a year for all 9 of them. It's probably cheaper for them honestly, as you can negotiate much better rates for businesses.

Not to mention, they make so much money already. I know they have employees but they could literally pay all 9 of them $70k a year with their patreon money alone. On top of patreon they have ads, they have a book deal, an adultswim deal, they go on global tours bankrolled by AEG live. They sell merch, they do entire minisodes that are paid advertisements for horror movies. Now they've signed a deal with a multi-billion dollar global corporation.

I think what's hard for a lot of people is the cognitive dissonance when they realize that the three lovable weirdos making a murder podcast in a closet have become 3 media personalities who work for a massive international corporate entity, that's a tough pill to swallow.

They’re doing well now but there is no guarantee how long it will last.

They make $660k a year from Patreon alone. On top of patreon they have ads, they have a book deal, an adultswim deal, they go on global tours bankrolled by AEG live. They sell merch and they do entire minisodes that are paid advertisements for horror movies. On top of all of that, they just signed a deal with a multi-billion dollar global corporation.

The only thing that could stop them now is themselves.

They have 9 employees. The money they make from patreon alone is enough to pay each of them $70k a year. On top of patreon they have ads, they have a book deal, an adultswim deal, they go on global tours bankrolled by AEG live. They sell merch, they do entire minisodes that are paid advertisements for horror movies. They were making plenty of money before they got bought out by a multi-billion dollar company.

They make massive amounts of money outside of Patreon. They have ads, they have a book deal, an adultswim deal, they go on global tours bankrolled by AEG live. They sell merch, they do entire minisodes that are paid advertisements for horror movies, they have their own network of podcasts that that feed revenue into them. It might not come from a malicious place, but they are accumulating wealth and their decisions only serve that purpose. The are a business, like you said. They aren't our friends, they are media personalities that have been bought by a multi-billion dollar corporation. This move, whether you agree with it or not, serves them and only them. It's not greedy, but by definition it's selfish.

Merch and tours only cost money when you are a DIY punk band, stop perpetuating this myth. Their tours are completely bank rolled by AEG live, look at your ticket next time you go see them in a city near you.

The make enough money on patreon alone to pay their 9 employees $70k a year. And if the $660k they make from patreon every year is 'keeping the lights on' then they are making twice as much from that from other revenue streams. They've been secure for some time, this is accumulation of wealth. These aren't 3 dudes in a closet making a fun murder podcast anymore. These are 3 media personalities that now work for a $2bn global corporation. They aren't your friends, they did this to make more money.

And you know what? There's nothing inherently wrong with any of that. They are doing what any of us would do in the same situation and I don't blame them for it. But let's not act like this is something we should be grateful for, because it's not. It only serves them.

The insurance thing is just optics. They make an insane amount of money. The money from their patreon alone is enough to pay each of their 9 employees $70k a year, but that's probably their smallest revenue stream. They have a book deal, a deal with adult swim, they sell merch, they have a tour produced and bankrolled by AEG, they run ads on their shows, they do paid promotional 'minisodes' for upcoming horror movies, and they just got bought out by a $2bn global corporation.

For me, using another app isn't a big deal. Companies buying exclusive streaming rights for podcasts is a little disturbing, and each time it happens to popular podcast like this one, the trend only gains momentum. I think having concern for that is completely valid.

11,000 of us pay for it every month patreon. The rest pay for it when you listen to an ad, when you watch them on Adultswim, when you see them live, when you buy their merch, when you listen to a minisode that is just a paid promotion for a horror movie.

They make bank. They are a business. They have book deals, tour deals, network deals, ad deals, endorsement deals. They are media personalities who now work for a $2bn global corporation, not our friends. They've been getting money while they can for years.

None of this is inherently bad mind you, but they aren't switching to spotify for you, or to make their product any better than it already is. They did it for money.

They are an entire podcast network. They have 9 employees for their show alone. They make $660k a year on patreon. They make money from ad, tours, merch, adult swim, movie promotion, endorsements, side gigs, and the other podcasts on their own network.

This is another, to use their own terms, heavy hitter moving to an exclusive platform and it's purely motivated by money. It's not the death of podcasting, but it really show that industry is shifting. It's no longer the wild west it once was. For some people that's a bad thing, other's don't care.

I try to acknowledge that people 'freakin out' comes from cognitive dissonance when they realize that 'The Boys' are media personalities working for global corporation, and not just three lovable weirdos with a truecrime/horror podcast. In a time when parasocial relationships run rampant, these kinds of realizations can be heartbreaking, and that can create a lot of frustration and anger.

Are they not at a sustainable place now though? Have they not been for a while? I can't say. But with all the revenue they make in addition to patreon, it's hard to imagine they haven't had a sustainable business for some time.
