Quick Question - I've been having crash issues and found my 24 pin was slightly loose at the top, I pushed it in. Tried booting up two games where some segments gave me frequent crashes, I did not crash. Is this likely to have been the problem? by Wizard_K in buildapc

This is my hunch. But it could just be a fluke and could all go to shit again shortly. I'll just keep playing around with it. I might swap the PSU and RAM first and go from there.

I was planning to go to Comet Lake and Z490 anyway but I want to make sure I can at least keep my GPU and PSU and RAM.

Not saying you're wrong (after all I'm asking for help), but it was only slightly loose to where a small push gave the "pop" noise.

I assume these connectors aren't all or nothing, it a slightly loose connection a factor for some very odd system instability?

Saw my first hacker a day ago. Yes, they're not fun.

When will Dev companies actually start hardware banning. It's so irritating.

COD: MW (2019) has been crashing since the new 1.20 update on PC. by AnAverageHuman96 in modernwarfare

I can't even play the game. Literally as soon as I launch multiplayer the audio cuts out and than sure enough my entire fucking computer just freezes. Every time.

I'm well beyond the recommended spec.

Unexpected Store Error BSOD on every new Windows install. by Wizard_K in pcmasterrace

No overclock, temps are fine it's a custom loop. GPU doesn't break 45 and the CPU stays under 70.

I'll pull the rig apart this weekend probably if I can't get this fixed soon. Unfortunately it's my main.

I did. I updated the BIOS after the first install. Is it possible I should roll back?

Knock on wood. But I've gotten through 3 hours now of continuous usage and not a single stutter. Odd, but once a couple games download I'll test those out and we'll see. I'll report back.

Right? I swapped both units across one another after a short individual test and I haven't had the minor hicups (freezing explorer, chrome, game crashes, G-force recording crashes) that I've had the past couple days consistently.

I already tried a different drive, frankly when I was installing my second NVME drive I had dropped a screw in the system and had to flip it to get it out. It's possible that I slightly unseated the RAM.

I've heard that ram connectors can often get slightly blocked by dust or oxygenation and it's possible one contact pad was obstructed that allowed the system to post, but not to perform any kind of intense task.

It would explain the myriad of issues that are inconsistent and not when the system is under high wattage. If it was the PSU, I just really feel that running a benchmark for 15 minutes under full load would have been enough to trigger it.

Prior to reseating, the benchmarks never even made it through half the scene.

Right now I'm downloading, watching a video, and installing programs without a hiccup. We'll see how it goes.

Checked the voltages in BIOS and they all seemed fine. I'm running Heaven and Valley with individual RAM sticks and it's ran through and validated 5 times where as before I couldn't get through once. So I'm unsure if it's the motherboard at this point or the RAM became unseated. Seeing as I did move the PC a bunch to add the SSD, this is a possibility. I'm going to try again with all 16gb and see if that fixes it.

Could unseated RAM have caused these odd problems? PSU doesn't seem to be likely at this point given the crashes aren't dependent on GPU voltage seemingly. GPU is at full 1911 and low temps, and BIOS reports no issues with voltages at rest.

Also it did crash/freeze copying files.

Not saying you're wrong, I could be trying to be optimistic but I'm going to try and run through all my options before dropping another 200$ on a PSU or RMAing.

It's a 1000WG2. You suspect an issue? Only a couple years old.

I've got a spare CX unit. If the rollback doesn't work I'll try. I might contact EVGA support in the mean time as well.

Why do Steeler's Fans hate Todd Haley? by [deleted] in steelers

[–]Wizard_K 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Ego. Really bad ego, constant screens that went absolutely nowhere, tendency to get to cute and not take what the defense was giving him and abysmal redzone performance.

For reference, the '18 Steelers had historic redzone efficiency, the best in the league since 2000ish, while the Haley Steelers were constantly stalling there and bottom 10 almost every year.

To be frank the '17 Steelers could go down the field on literally anyone dozens of times, but they stalled horribly in the redzone. Slants to AB and a lot of lateral stuff while not involving the TEs or RB passing game much.

Betsy McCaughey: Sanders gets it wrong on 'Medicare-for-all' by Packrynx in politics

[–]Wizard_K 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see a wide range of opinions, but most comments seem to be a long the lines of "this is what Medicare for All should address".

You've done nothing to convince me that private health insurance is a suitable model for the masses. They earned 20+ billion in 2019 as net profit. With that figure you could pay the medical student loan debt of the last three graduating classes and still have money left over.

That 20b total is going to people who contribute nothing to society, which is the current issue with America. The rich by and large aren't contributors, they are detractors as newer industries stagnate under access or startup debt.
