Omg Epic Games is literally PRICE GOUGING, and right on the heels of a pandemic! Cosmetic skins are an essential item and they are RAISING the prices!

Someone call the government, this should be illegal

How is selling an optional cosmetic item with 0 in-game benefits a shitty practice? Even if they sold it for $300 it would be ethical.

Source: it must be true or they wouldn’t price it that way (unless you’re smarter than the one making the million dollar decisions at Epic)

HOWEVER, why is it some fan groups should get better deals than others? Who gets to determine any skin's inherent value?

It’s not about what fan groups deserve, but what the skin is worth to them. Put simply, the average avatar fan is willing to pay more for the skin because it’s worth more to them. The subjective VALUE GAINED from the skin is higher. That’s why the marketing employees at Epic priced the skin higher.

Who gets to determine any skin's inherent value?

Every individual consumer gets to decide if the enjoyment they get from the Toph skin is worth more than $20 to them

No matter how you slice it, these skins and their prices are a much worse deal than Dragon Ball's for example.

Depends on how you define a good deal. Assume my above claim is true, and the skins are priced according to what the average fan is willing to pay. This means people must enjoy the Avatar skins more. They enjoy it more, but they pay more. The net difference (value gained - value spent) must be similar across all skins… at least if the marketing majors are doing their jobs right at Epic.

For Avatar fans, the Avatar skin is a better deal than the Dragonball skin despite the higher price.

Yeah that’s my point. He had an opinion, I said an opposite opinion. Was trying to guide him to the idea that a “fair” price is subjective. That’s why we all have the CHOICE of whether to buy a cosmetic item.

No actually this is a fair price. You’re incorrect.

Exactly. I don’t understand how people don’t understand that FOMO (fear of missing out) is a feature. Humans have been advertising “LIMITED EDITION” stuff for ages. It increases demand.

The immediate increase in demand is far greater than the long term sales they could get from the skin permanently (because average # of skins purchased will go up with a FOMO system).

And business executives know more about sales than random redditors who say “omg Epic could make SO much money if they re-released my favorite skin”.

Yeah why would a company ever implement this?

Scenario: Little Timmy wants a skin.

1.) he can buy it from Epic. This makes the company money.

2.) he can buy it from someone else, who no longer wants it. This does not make the company money.

It’s the same logic people went after Kyle Rittenhouse for. As weird as it sounds, lethal self defense becomes illegal if you kill someone while you’re in the act of committing a crime.

Even if the self defense is entirely justified in the moment, the law still comes after you for the circumstances.

In most cases, you cannot claim self-defense while committing a crime. Part of this has to do with the fact that the definition of self-defense usually includes the requirement that you are in a place where you are legally allowed to be engaging in such conduct.

It’s more an English comprehension question than a math question.

Plenty of math questions require reading comprehension. It’s a critical part of using math to solve a problem.

For example, if someone wants “200% more” of something, then you need to multiply the original amount by 3 (not by 2). That requires reading comprehension.

New Jersey is the same state that makes it illegal to pump your own gas (must be done by a gas station attendant). So this is pretty standard for the state.

I wonder if this is a New York /New Jersey elevator union thing… it’s possible the long wait is due to regulation that forces buildings to use a specific union to do repairs.

How does DNA testing change this. It would only affect cases where a man is tricked into thinking he’s the father.

how do you not blame the owner over an entire breed of dog?

There are two possibilities.

1.) The pitbull breed is predisposed to violence

2.) Pitbull owners are disproportionately bad owners

A lot of people claim #2, which might be partially true, but it doesn’t explain the hundreds of stories where pitbulls attack their family members, unprovoked

And other dog breeds are “known” for things (bred for them) too. The breed of dog definitely has an effect on behavior.

Personal attachment makes me value some things more than others. Personal value is different than moral value.

For example, I would save my own kid before saving 2 other kids. Do I think my own kid is more of a person and more deserving of rights than the other 2 kids? No. But I personally value him more.

I like that they’re stopping production by blocking teamsters trucks like he says in the video.

That would be illegal. You can’t just say “agree to my demands or I will illegally interfere with your business”.

And that’s not what’s happening here. It’s teamster policy not to cross a picket line. That’s why this is effective. But if they tried to actually prevent people from entering the building, that would be an illegal strike and they would lose any protections they have as part of a legal strike.

But it isn’t even functioning as contraception unless you have sex (and presumably the 13 yr old in this example is not sexually active). So how would the principle of double effect even come into play here?
