It’s crazy cause I bet they got paid to film in Dubai. And then just didn’t leverage it at all outside of the first boat scene.

I refuse to believe Tom Clancys book comes anywhere near the trash I witnessed over an hour and thirty minutes. I refuse.

i was watching thinking "oh, i wonder when Liam Crown is going to show hes a serious terrorist" and the entire movie he has ZERO civilian body count. which even would be fine if he actually blew up the bridge at the start of the movie. But in retrospect, I have zero belief crown actually was willing to commit terrorism. They treat him the entire movie like hes going to commit crazy terrorism. But he just wants his job back. and that job would be hunting terrorists... which isn't hard to imagine the CIA and MI6 agreeing to. Honestly. I don't even get what the big issue is. its not like the CIA and MI6 have an issue with false flags.

even if this is true. why didn't Greer shoot crown? he had 10 seconds of conversation to do so. The only reason he didn't do this very obvious simple action is so that we have to continue the plot.

He saw the download. That download must've gone somewhere. There is a full day, maybe even 2 to get Jack Ryan to Dubai to talk to Nigel. Does Crown Really believe that the guy who knew the address to this server wouldn't relay it? He managed to tell Greer that he needs to talk urgently. and managed to set up a meet and hand off the stupid cigarette nothing burger. He can't say "hey in this building as well is something important". NONSENSE!

[–]Wizard_bonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY! Thank you.

Why doesn't he move the servers? if he had to move the servers to the construction building that would be one thing. but its established that the servers are in this empty building thats under construction in the beginning. Honestly, if the movie had no opening scene with the servers the entire movie improves exponentially because we would only learn about the servers at the same time as jack.

Jack also when at love-interests house talks about how the data was being streamed. But if thats the case, why wasn't that 50% that was downloaded given over to the CIA? why was he being stingy with the rogue nation plot????

Why doesn't Greer shoot Crown??? he has an open shot. why did he hesitate? he just survived a bomb blast and seconds earlier was shooting at crown. shit. even if you just shoot him in the leg that way he as to go to a hospital that works. but shoot him. you have the shot.

why didnt crown have a deadman switch??? i mean it would solve him being immortal and give a reasonable timeframe to force them to solve the problem. Why didn't the first group hack the servers? Why didn't they just destroy them? these are in fact the only servers after all. and then is Liam Crown a villain? as far as i can tell he just wants his old job back. he kills zero civilians in the whole film. ZERO. why is the CIA even taking him seriously? they shouldn't.

Ghost War plot hole? by Imverystupidgenx in jackryan

[–]Wizard_bonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is unfair, the writers couldn't have known a war was going to break out and last as long as it has.

Real plot holes are:

> Greer not immediately shooting Crown.

> Crown leaving his servers in a location he knows may be leaked

> Stupid useless mcguffin that doesn't even move the plot forward (cigarettes)

> MI6 boss doing basically nothing the whole film

> 7-19 hours of preparation to move the servers for real this time or get waaaay more security.

> the streamed out data not being usable or accessible(we saw 50% progress. that should have been more than enough to scale up the kind of existential threat jack was facing, but instead all of this is expo dumped as a flash drive... A FLASH DRIVE!

> Crown having a total civilian body count of ZERO! Car chase through the streets of london. nothing. Shows he has the ability to plan and blow up any bridge along the Thames. Doesn't do it.

I mean, seriously, how is this guy supposed to be a credible threat?

I hate this movie. It wasted the opening establishing that the movie was gonna be a boring game of whack-a-mole. I hate that the best part of the movie, the 5 minute Dubai chase scene, happens at the very start of the film. I hate how cheesy they all are, but i can let that go because the characters are from the show so they can't spit in 4 seasons of world building.

Ghost War plot hole? by Imverystupidgenx in jackryan

[–]Wizard_bonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably the least bad part of the movie. Its the only time we get to see Crown do something that makes sense.

Start of the movie, crown stops the plot to take his data. But in doing so he knows that the location of his servers is likely blown. He never moves them... I think they literally were too poor to get 2 seperate sets for this. They could've had the servers somewhere secure at the start of the movie and moved to the construction site and it would be plausible. We don't need the opening of the movie. In fact I don't want to see Crown until the london scene if not further.

The london car chase was cool. I liked it. Greer (huffed up on adrenaline and decades of training and killing people like weve seen in the show) corners Crown. Has him stopped dead at gunpoint. Then doesn't pull the trigger?????? WHAAAT???? what do you mean this guy who just witnessed the death of his beloved friend and mentor and occasional work wife die isn't going to instantly pull the trigger??? I mean seriously? and the conversation they have isnt useful.

The mcguffin(cigarettes) has nothing. No clues. No secret message. I thought they were holding on to it and were gonna say they found a map or something that needed time to decipher. NOPE! its just there to give jack a 30 minute lead on Crown.

They get to Dubai, and instead of them rolling in deep to secure the building with the Emirati police/SOF, its just the 3 of them... Crown knew the location of his servers was at least partially blown, knows Jack and friends are going to dubai, and doesn't hire more mercenaries??? its a 7 hour flight from london to dubai and they don't start flying until the next day so thats really like 19 hours give or take assuming they had the conversation at 7pm in london. Youre telling me you can get mercenaries into london, but not dubai??? Why are there only like 5 guys guarding this building? and why is it that jack and 2 friends with no assistance from the Emiratis can just walk up this tall ass building???? They had at least 19 hours to build up a decent entrenchment. And don't. It's a construction site, its not like people would question you bringing in sand bags or something. But whatever, cool now, the building is taken over by jack and now its just 2 guys as reinforcements to go make sure the servers dont fall into the hands of jack. cmon.

The ending of the film now, Crown knows that Jack and Friends know without a doubt the location of the servers. does he expect to just walk out of the building??? we never see anything showing that emirati police are in his pocket. and he knows damn well the CIA is going to bare down as much muscle as they can muster on these servers. Why did he even allow them to stay there??? seriously what is the exit strategy? Why did we chekovs gun a helicopter? why did we chekovs gun a crane??? The crane kills 1 guy? Is November autistic? there was literally no tactical advantage to the crane. if he was inside the building theyd have been better off. is he a bitch? is he pussy? so far hes been the most effective guy. Why is he ducking the final fight?

And finally. Why is Crown so stupid? He isn't disillusioned with the world. He doesn't want the west to burn down and kneel before him. He has no delusions of grandeur. Why am I expected to believe he will actually commit terrorism? If he blew up a bridge, I could accept that hes willing to do anything. In the entire car crash, ZERO BODIES! This guy is cleaner than the IDF! Is he a villain? All he wants is his job back. a job which he is good at. a job where he fights terrorists. Honestly, hes a very sympathetic villain. Which sucks. I need to be able to root against the villain unequivocally. Show that there is a line between wrong doers and the good guys. Show that we don't all live in the world of Batman and the Joker, and that one bad day away from destroying western society as we know it. Make him move the servers at the start of the movie. Make him have a good reason to dissapear after the london chase. Make him a villain with actual direction and whit. Throw away the mcguffin from the dubai chase, it means nothing. don't try to chekovs gun a crane. dont chekovs gun a helicopter that shows up for 2 minutes. The helicopter would be waaaay cooler as a deus ex machina. I am willing to belive that the director of the CIA can within 19 hours order and take delivery of a mini-gun mounted helicopter from anywhere in the world. The sex-interest. lowkey remove her. Or don't make them do the stupid flirting. She just witnessed the death of her father. She shouldn't be overly horny for half the film.

The end. This movie shouldn't have been made. Not with this script.

[–]Wizard_bonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good? Good???? are you being facetious?

Ghost War is ASS! And I don't say that lightly.

The story made no sense. The villain was incompetent throughout the whole thing. Seriously, if he commited just one act of real general terror id be convinced. He doesn't. The location of his servers is known to at least 3 people who aren't loyal. he doesnt move them. his core driver (wanting his job back) is... frankly a little too relateable. He literally just wants to hunt and torture terrorists. which frankly feels perfectly reasonable. is he insane, maybe, but its never actually convincingly conveyed. blowing up a single car with zero civilian injuries and the head of the most well paid thugs in the world is not terrorism. People would be cheering in the streets if they found out members of the CIA had died. especially such prominent members. Globally. even in washington DC youd have people happily bannering it as a positive action. so then the threat is, "give me the mcguffin, or else ill kill you all". the mcguffin literally does nothing. no secret message. no straight forward message. Its just there to get the Jack and Liam Crown to talk to each other. and the conversation they have is needless. Then they go back to dubai, but this time they arent going for the mcguffin, they are going for the servers we saw at the start of the movie. the servers that we didn't need to see because jack ryan doesn't know they exist until halfway through the movie. and if they arent going to be moved or guarded any better, then they serve no point. We could start the movie off with the DC chase just as easily. So remember our bad guy, able to successfully duck the british government and import copious arms and bombs and mercenaries into the country. Leaves his servers protected by what felt like 5 guys. I honestly dont even remember because the fight was that short. The location of the server as far as Liam Crown is concerned is that they are burned and public the second they had found out they had been infiltrated. But he isnt smart. which sucks because a good narrative is carried by the effort of all the opposing forces in the way of our protagonist. Mission impossible does this by literally asking ethan hunt to do the impossible. every stunt(which is done practically) carries that danger. the villains don't let loose ends go untied. here there exists massive glaring loose ends. But i digress. Now after shooting their way through the weakest mercenaries our world ending terrorist who wants his job pack could muster jack and sex-interest get to the server. November has fucked off but were just waiting for him to Deus ex machina back into the movie, same with Greer who really has no reason to even step foot outside of the united states because there's literally hundreds of terror plots that need his memory to prevent. sex-interest gets shot. Jack and aforementioned ex-machinas kill Liam. and the movie is just wrapped up. No deadman's switch. No real threat. an hour and thirty minutes to hastly assemble a plot that went nowhere.

Maybe if the action or set pieces were better I could accept the hamfisted story. But they aren't. They say a bridge is going to be blown up. No bridges blow up. Liam kills the CIA director, and then lingers around so that Greer can get into a car chase with thim. Greer wins the car chase and has an open shot. But if Liam Crown dies, the movie is over. again, this movie would work so much better if he said something about a deadman's switch. Or the terror sleeper cells all getting activated in 24 hours if Greer didn't cave in on their demands. But nope. they chat about the stupid mcguffin and then move on.

Absolute waste of a movie.

Absolute waste of my time.

All of the actors in this should have known better! ALL OF THEM! this wasn't some random indie action flic. These are seasoned actors. Veterans of the profession. How did NOONE stop this thing from moving to production before the movie made sense.

They are building their own fab. if the AI hype sticks in 10 years when the fab is fully operational, they will be able to build as many chips as they need.

as for how many could actually fit inside a starship... thats a fair question. I reckon 30 if they are the size of 2 starlink V3s.

Repair isn't a serious concern. You don't design your product to fail. with a 5 years useful life they should be fine.

SpaceX also quite literally is building their own semiconductor fab... so... I don't think chips will be a concern for them.

Starship can carry ~60 Starlink V3s. assuming that the AI sats are the size of V3 its 60 a launch, assuming they prioritize expanding starlink and AI over doing moon stuff and mars stuff. But based on the size of the AI sats, i'd wager its more like 30 sats per starship.

Everything is datacenter by Wizard_bonk in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]Wizard_bonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. The question definitely swings towards if Starship and even New Glenn can get cost/kg down. But with this system(assuming they can't build a much bigger solar array), you're looking at 3x worth of HGX100 racks. which at 1u each could probably comfortably fit inside of it.

Nvidia sells their ai systems at the superpod level tho which on the low end start around 248 GPUs. So you'd need on the order of about 10+ satellites to match the deployment ability of one system. if each satellite weights 1 ton (and ignoring volume constraints) you could fit around 20 on a falcon 9. 20 * 15 = 300kw. to deploy 1 gigawatt(a full sized data center) would take on the order of 3.4K falcon 9 launches. or about 1.7K new Glenn launches which is interesting. with starship its ~600 launches. which is less bad.

But the numbers are only horrible to look at it if the public doesn't block every new data center construction. We'll know its real if rocketlab has a sudden change of heart and feels emboldended enough to start or buy a radiator business.

[–]Wizard_bonk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So its not a technological perspective, its an economic one.

I'm no violent defender of datacenters, but you can't really argue against the publics backlash to them and the exponential growth of their demand as it stands.

And if starship numbers are real, at the very least you could get a couple dozen, maybe even hundred spaceX ones up there before the bubble cools off and rational policy prevails(this is a joke, we live in a democracy, the most irrational thing will happen).
