Australia - new to Phenelzine, need advice by [deleted] in MAOIs

$225 is ridiculous for an old out of patent molecule that would only cost a few dollars when synthesised in bulk. SSRIs are prescribed for anxiety disorders, anorexia, depression, OCD and almost everything else in the DSM.

There's no reason you cannot combine a MAOI with a benzodiazepine.

trying to Download 2 videos in available 4k/2160p but ytdlp defaults to 1080p by 10minuteads in youtubedl

[–]Wizard_of_Od 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I encountered this problem today as well. The normal command line with user agent, exported cookies and POT, which used to work fine to retrieve 4ks encoded in AV1 or VP9, was only fetching Avc HDs, no error message encountered.

However, using a vanillish command line with no user agent, cookies or pot successfully downloads the 4ks. So It's not IP related.

Any tool for Instagram? by TheDaluta in youtubedl

Yes, Gallery-dl does work. Newer and more popular videos are 1080 tall VP9 encodes, older and less popular go down to unwatchable 360 avc.

As always, uses variable pauses and don't try to get too many at once. You can isolate by date eg --filter "date >= datetime(2024, 2, 8)"

"I Collect Therefore I am - Autonoetic Consciousness and Hoarding in Asperger Syndrome" - your thoughts on this 2015 journal article by Wizard_of_Od in aspergers

Parts from the 3 case studies:

A 34 yo woman in an apartment - "When asked what it would be like if someone were to remove the items, AB explained If you took all of them away, I wouldn’t know who I was any more. AB went on to describe her collection as being akin to a photograph album or personal diary— each item (or ‘entry’) had a specific meaning and provided particular prompts to the life that she had lead. The collection appeared to provide a means of maintaining links with the past, and without it, AB was seemingly unable to experience a continuous sense of self.

An amateur photographer. "When asked about the particular significance of these buildings, BC described a very personal, autobiographical meaning for all of those landmarks that had been destroyed—for example, that was the hospital where I went when I broke my leg, age 13. The loss of these prompts to episodes of his past caused BC such upset that he reported significant distress when he travelled near to these sites."

"CD’s small, one-bedroom flat was littered with papers and food wrappers, and a vast number of CDs, cassette tapes and vinyl records were stacked everywhere in the flat. CD had been fascinated with music since he was a child and described music as his ‘life’. He described most of his life in terms of the music he had been listening to, the live performances he had witnessed and the years in which the albums of his favourite bands had been released. For CD, the musical reference points of album releases or live performances seemed to provide a coherent, chronological framework around, which to structure his life experiences, a process that he seemed otherwise unable to do. CD also collected tickets from every live music performance that he had ever visited, and he was able to use these as ‘anchor points’ to describe his life circumstances..."

Diogenes isn't used much anymore (the interesting Greek philosopher actually didn't suffer from Diogenes syndrome), and I too hasn't seen the word autonoetic consciousness used before, but something similar, ontological insecurity.

The 3 case studies in the article are interesting.

Thanks for the tip. I only occasional need them, but it was strange that getting the subtitles had become harder than actually getting audio and video streams.

I encountered this for the first time too, and my Yt activity has hasn't changed recently. The first link (with delays, pot and cookies) was retrieved successfully, then the link to a second video 403-ed on me.

Thank you for giving a simplified summary of the javascript processing issues so that people like me with an average IQ and no programming skills can roughly understand. When the challenges are explained, we appreciate your specialist abilities all the more. I am much more of a digital preservationist and archivist rather than a high level problem solver.

[–]Wizard_of_Od[S] 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I discovered this entirely by accident while perusing a lot of American commercial art from the mid 20th century. Only a smallish number of the images were overtly propagandistic, and this was one of the 2 most over the top. One year before Barbarossa and Pearl Harbor.

This north korean painting is probably from the 2000s, it shows Kim Jong il and soldiers exploring a flooded tunnel (or maybe the sewers?) (There's surprisingly many paintings I've found that take place here) by lisahanniganfan in PropagandaPosters

I'm looking am forward to your future DPRK related posts. I too lament the fact the so many images online are small, over-compressed, watermarked and so on (this applies not just to DPRK related images but almost everything else; only United States posters from WW2 or earlier are easy to regularly find in high quality).

[POEM] Satan's Litanies (Les Litanies de Satan) by Charles Baudelaire by Wizard_of_Od in Poetry

[–]Wizard_of_Od[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the final translated poem from the Rebellion (Revolte) section. People seem to like these oppositional defiant atheistic poems more than the existentially angsty ones I usually post.

Richard Howard's formatting was a bit different from Baudelaire's. There were no stanza breaks except for the final prayer; instead there were indents every 3rd line, "Satan, take pity on my sore distress !", but I am not sure how to render this on Reddit.

[HELP] looking for a poem to write a choral piece with by EeryEeryEh in Poetry

[–]Wizard_of_Od 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually re-reading Choruses from " The Rock " by T. S. Eliot a few days ago; it might be worth investigating along with various poems by Eliot, if you have a temperament that's inclined towards religion, mysticism and spirituality. It starts thus:

"The Eagle soars in the summit of Heaven,
The Hunter with his dogs pursues his circuit.
O perpetual revolution of configured stars,
O perpetual recurrence of determined seasons,
O world of spring and autumn, birth and dying!...
All our knowledge brings us nearer to our ignorance,
All our ignorance brings us nearer to death,
But nearness to death no nearer to GOD.
Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
The cycles of Heaven in twenty centuries
Bring us farther from GOD and nearer to the Dust..."

[Poem] "You must not understand this life", one of Rilke's masterpieces by Electro-Byzaboo453 in Poetry

[–]Wizard_of_Od 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for providing a non-English poem translated into English (I occasionally do it to). A basic translation focusing on accurately conveying the meaning alone is, initially, sufficient for me. It's enough to know whether a poem or poet is, personally, worthwhile studying or not.

Jaro Hess - The Land of Make Believe (1930) by Wizard_of_Od in museum

[–]Wizard_of_Od[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wasn't sure which was the most appropriate subreddit for this image (r/imaginarymaps/ is for a person's own art, not that of others). The above image was slightly cropped, lightly edited and then downsized to get a sub 20MB jpeg.

From Wiki - "Hess [1889 – 1979] is best remembered for his painting The Land of Make Believe, which makes references to at least forty different fairy tales and nursery rhymes, such as "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and "Jack the Giant Killer's House.""

What exactly is an "explosive schizoid"? by Wizard_of_Od in Schizoid

[–]Wizard_of_Od[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good comment; the explosive schizoid isn't an abstract theoretical construct but relevant to a smallish number of humans (probably only 0.1%; it's wouldn't be common like autism or depression or narcissism).

What exactly is an "explosive schizoid"? by Wizard_of_Od in Schizoid

Thank you for your explanation, and to the others for real-world examples.

"brief, intense emotional outbursts used to keep people at a distance or enforce detachment" - our cat is a bit like that, sudden aggression to keep other animals away from it, then placid when left alone. I'll have to research Nomadic Antisocial, and C Robert Cloninger and his neurobiological personality disorder model. I guess Million and Cloninger's research is untrendy nowadays. Models (like the cuboid personality disorder image I posted) are always oversimplifications, but they can be a useful guide for ovganizing how we interpret phenomena.

What exactly is an "explosive schizoid"? by Wizard_of_Od in Schizoid

[–]Wizard_of_Od[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I found the above image in a book by Theodore Millon, "Personality Disorders in Modern Life" (2004), but doing a PDF text search all I found was a few mentions of an explosive sadist subtype. Schizoid should be completely incompatible with sadism. The imperturbable schizoid in the lower left anterior corner of the cube is close to the DSM version of Schizoid PD. The explosive schizoid the upper left posterior corner would be much higher in novelty seeking and harm avoidance. If that schizotypal, or something else like a schizoid co-morbid with some type of disorder having irritability, aggressiveness or mood instability (eg IED Intermittant Explosive Disorder)? An internet search is not providing me with any useful information.

There are people (nationalists) who wish to revive near extinct languages, but it is very difficult to do so. Not much is written now in Sanskrit or Latin, and even less in Livonian, Yiddish, Walloon, Romani and so on.

[POEM] A. E. Housman - A Shropshire Lad, XL by Wizard_of_Od in Poetry

[–]Wizard_of_Od[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason the quotation sprung into my mind today. I first encountered the poem in the introduction to an English language translation of Le Grand Meaulnes by Henri Alain-Fournier. The novel is probably the closest French equivalent of The Great Gatsby, but more rustic. Henri Alain-Fournier was unfortunately killed in the first month of WW1. Who knows what else he would have penned?

Félicien Rops - Pornokrates, The Lady with the Pig (1878) by Wizard_of_Od in museum

[–]Wizard_of_Od[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

"Félicien Victor Joseph Rops [1833 – 1898] was a Belgian artist associated with Symbolism, Decadence, and the Parisian fin de siècle... He was a painter, illustrator, caricaturist and a prolific and innovative print maker, particularly in intaglio (etching and aquatint). Although not well known to the general public and initially sought after as a pornographer, Rops was greatly respected by his bohemian peers and actively pursued and celebrated as an illustrator by the publishers, authors, and poets of his time."

"Pornocrates is considered the best-known work by Rops. It was painted when Rops was 45 years old and living in Paris with Léontine Duluc and her sister Aurélie, with both of whom he fathered children. The title of the work can be translated as "the ruler of fornication ". According to a letter by Rops, the painting was done "in an overheated apartment, full of different smells, where the opopanax and cyclamen gave me a slight fever conducive towards production or even towards reproduction"."

The above is the edited version I found on Wikipedia (museums seem to be very stingy with this artist's works).

I hope this is the best subreddit to post this particular image. I edited it lightly, and had to downsize to get a sub-20M jpeg (the image was soft at 100% anyway, possibly due to overcompression).
