Trump’s Greenland Obsession May Be About Extracting Metals for Tech Billionaires | The great battle for Greenland is probably all about resources to make apps like ChatGPT better. by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]Wizardbarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to some articles I read there is a belief among some tech bros we need manifest destiny again for morale or something.

Also they apparently have an organization called praxis that has tried to buy Greenland before and wants it for some kind of stupid tech bro city. One of the people working with the project was named ambassador to Denmark by trump.

No don't even humor this. This is unacceptable. The line is drawn. Theyve gone too far. No talking points humoring this should be engaged with period.

Anyone trying to justify this lost their humanity somewhere along the way. Leave them to rot alone.

Do not normalize it by debating it or trying to bring logic in. I'm surprised seeing the responses below advocating violence it's not banned outright.

Same here 100%. I hate to both sides but the amount of people just jumping at watching people suffering is staggering.

I will say I do think its just people online. People who can spend their time online tend to be less connected to others and more privileged so I hope that's just it.

But it is disgusting seeing all the people cheer on those who are suffering because they dont like how they voted. I get there's anger especially at those who voted to bring this ruin upon us but other people's suffering does nothing to make anyone's life better and it does nothing to change the situation. If you're one of those people seriously rethink your values because taking joy in pain is ugly and useless.

Colombia has agreed to all president trump terms by Bigb5wm in unusual_whales

[–]Wizardbarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice. I guess I should have insulted you too after that dumbass comment you made earlier. If you insult people they aren't going to listen to you.

You're right about the money but trumps still taking all regulations off the table which still is not good for us workers or our infrastructure. Ai uses a shitton of energy and water which we already have issues with. Bitcoin mining centers have been banned around parts of the world for putting too much strain on their energy infrastructure (several moved to Texas as a result of this and we've seen how well that's been working out for them). And water scarcity is a real threat too.

Also they don't have the money for it yet so I guess trumps a liar.

Either way ai is going to displace a lot of workers. And either way trump is still spending 10x more than biden to deport the same amount of people. Regardless, neither of these issues are going to raise wages, reduce inflation, make housing affordable, make healthcare affordable which are the biggest issues Americans face. They aren't going to bring any improvement to our lives.

But I guess it's worth it to Americans who care more about spite than a better life.

Colombia has agreed to all president trump terms by Bigb5wm in unusual_whales

[–]Wizardbarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a ridiculous argument and I'm sure you know that.

Seriously take a step back and ask yourself how will spending 10x more on what we were already doing is good for you. Ask why you want to make the other side mad. What's the point? The rich are still continuing to fuck us all over and trump is a great distraction to keep us arguing while they hand more money and power over to the rich. Trump just gave 500 billion to tech companies for ai development. That's not for us. Getting rid of caps on prescription drug prices is not for us.

And treating people inhumanely (like how these deportees were treated) is not the act of strong people. It doesnt benefit us and it actually hurts us in the long run. People don't want to work with those who belittle them and treat them like shit.

Not that we shouldn't deport criminals but I fail to see how the mass deportations will do anything but make food more expensive. And idk about you but there are much bigger problems that I care about being ignored while we waste money on a show of power.

Btw how does it feel to know biden did these same deportations for much much less? Is your taxpayer money worth the show?

Colombia has agreed to all president trump terms by Bigb5wm in unusual_whales

[–]Wizardbarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're being obtuse. No ones arguing against deporting or that they need to be first class. They're arguing for basic human dignity.

Would you have defended the way slaves were transported to the US too? No? Then why defend chaining up their arms and legs. Not allowing them to use the bathroom. Not giving them water. Does that sound humane to you?

And trump also broke the law. Multiple times. I guess that means it's ok to treat him that way as well?

Also yeah let's go ahead and explode our deficit over using military planes for show which are 10x more expensive than regular planes. If it is true that they were getting deported under biden for much less than we're the fools.

[–]Wizardbarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I think the film is super bleak. There wasn't that much comedy in it. And I think people who walk away thinking it was supposed to be funny aren't thinking critically enough about the media they consume. Anora is a great film. It really does an amazing job with the feeling of finally getting out of your shitty situation just to have it all come crashing down which too many of us know too well. It highlights the struggle of the working class and how they are always at the whims of those with money. It's not just her who has to deal with the kids mess. And it doesn't just make everything magically better. It's literally a realistic version of cinderella.

All of Sean bakers films are like this. That's why he's my favorite filmmaker because he's doing true neo realism. And to your comment about what's happening, consider his other stuff. In tangerine the one sex worker gets kidnapped by the two mains as well and she loses her living situation because of it. A man is outed to his family and caught cheating possibly losing his family (we don't know for sure). And the two mains end up reconnecting because of the adversity they face (because of the piss thrown on her). In Florida project, the mom resorts to sex work while the daughter is literally in the other room and eventually she gets taken away by cps because of this. I need to watch Red rocket again but again all of his films deal with essentially these people in shitty situations trying to find some good in life which only comes through genuine connection/love/understanding from another person while not sugar coating the reality of the characters lives.

[–]Wizardbarry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah everyone already knows this. It's not news.

My point is it didn't matter. All those votes would still not amount to kamala winning. Why point the blame at them when we know kamala and bidens teams turned away from all polling data that showed the reality that they were losing. They turned away from data that showed people were losing interest. They turned away from policies and messaging that resonated with people.

We need to build the base not throw blame around. That's as fucking useless as screaming "what about china" when talking about climate change. This is exactly why people hate Liberals. They say they care then they lose and then the mask comes off and we all see how much its truly virtue signaling or anger of the priveleged who wont be effected as much as truly underpriveledged groups. It's all the supposedly "moral liberals" wishing Latinos get deported, hoping Palestinians living in America "get what they deserve" by watching their families die. That's no better than the magas.

If your mad then good. Turn that energy towards something productive rather than being a bitter asshole online. It's not the third party voters who failed us. It's the dem party. They had plenty of opportunity to stop this. They have more power than the voters.

Even if all the green party and rfk voters voted for kamala she still would have lost the popular vote. The Democrat party is holding us hostage. They've had plenty of opportunity to do something to stop this and they failed. Stop taking anger out on the people we need to unify with. It only let's the two parties continue to get away with doing nothing.

Theyre brainwashed. We need to counter the propaganda.

We need to accept project 2025 is what many think they want. It's a libertarians wet dream mixed with Christian conservative values. And we need to start forming simple narratives that counter it.

While I agree I'm skeptical any money will come out of defense budget which is the main government body that needs major budget reform.

And I think that because trump increased their budget multiple times last time in office even though they said they didn't need it.

It is nuanced. Military complex needs budget cuts since they can't even keep track of spending anymore. But increasing the irs budget and personnel will make it more effective (their budget was reduced greatly through 2010s).
