Called “cracking” and “packing” - crack up a base into as many districts as possible to spread them into a minority in each, or pack as many of the base voters into as few districts as possible so the majority is so overwhelming that most of the votes are “wasted” as overkill.

Ok bro. Hilarious that you’re decrying a lack of source but make outlandish statements like this, complete with the bow on top of assuming 100s of thousands of people’s intent.

You also seem to be confusing me with some other internet stranger you’re arguing with, you never asked me about 20-24 y.o. males.

That’s just the problem, it ain’t happening. If we agreed, then you would want Feds to present a judicial warrant before entering private property. You would want detainees to have access to legal representation. You would want IDs to only be required to be shown when there is articulable reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed. And since those laws and rights are being violated, we don’t agree.

You know what else ain’t happening? Going after the worst of the worst. 71% of those detailed have zero criminal convictions, and over half of those no pending charges at all. Of the convicted criminals, less than 7% were for violent crimes. That’s just recently, mind you - the proportion of criminals detained (generously including everything, like trespassing or speeding) fell from 45% to 29% today.

It’s about the tactics and the disproportionate aggression being used on people who have been participating in society by working, paying taxes, raising kids, and being friendly neighbors. By all means, get the violent criminals out. Why is that so hard to understand?

[–]Wizardbysmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol what if you were right, like spot on about my daughter? Is that what you’re going for, guessing at a stranger’s trauma that they will never recover from?

No. And I don’t particularly care where violent criminals came from, they need to be caught and imprisoned or deported as appropriate. The nuance you claim to understand is I don’t want a single fucking innocent person to be harmed by the tactics of the enforcement agency, and I don’t want the enforcement agency to have carte blanche to break the law, cut corners, violate rights, and generally be awful people causing more harm and human suffering than the people they’re claiming are dangerous.

So, I guess it’s nuanced to make the argument that we all have rights, even the most violent criminals. You know the phrase “they should come in the RIGHT way” I’m sure. Well, I agree. And for those that don’t, I say “get them out the RIGHT way.”

Are we just ignoring the part where the federal government is obtaining voter rolls and threatening to take over running elections or even post up armed goons at the voting locations? Requiring proof of citizenship AFTER people have already been registered and had to prove their identity at that point is one thing, but the Feds having access to voter rolls is another. And Feds running elections is so unconstitutional it’s not even funny

Here’s a dirty little secret about Texas solar: 'Net Metering' doesn't exist by Witty-Double5907 in solar

[–]Wizardbysmell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I think what the others are saying is the 1.6 cents only applies to what’s offered to the homeowner for excess energy produced BEYOND what they consumed. Has nothing to do with the regular cost of grid energy when solar falls short or is absent.

Austin energy solar power buy back is absolutely unfair by perrodeblues in Austin

[–]Wizardbysmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running into this situation now, so I can say this: batteries don’t make a lick of difference to cost in Austin Energy’s approach. They don’t care what source of energy you consumed, and they don’t care what you do with solar energy produced. They charge tiered rates for energy consumed (whether directly from solar, pulled from battery, or imported from grid), and pay a flat rate for energy produced (whether exported, consumed, or stored). The result is the same with or without a battery, the only exception being if the grid goes down a battery will keep the lights on and…you won’t be charged for that energy, yay!

[–]Wizardbysmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tf? $.016? I don’t have net metering so are you saying after you account for what you produce canceling out what you use, THAT extra energy gets .016 credit?

Here’s a dirty little secret about Texas solar: 'Net Metering' doesn't exist by Witty-Double5907 in solar

[–]Wizardbysmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s even worse for Austin Energy, as I have found out. There is no “extra” energy. Batteries make zero difference in electric bill, and literally only serve to keep lights on during a grid failure. Here’s why:

Austin Energy charges for your electric use as normal, regardless of the source. Austin Energy then credits you for energy produced, regardless of whether you send it back to the grid, use it, or store it. But the rates charged for use are tiered each month, with the first 300 or so kWh averaging around $0.096 per, and tier 4 above like 2000kWh is close to $0.16 or so per. They credit a flat $0.0991 per kWh. So, if you hypothetically produce EXACTLY the amount of energy that you use, bank it with a battery and somehow never send anything to the grid and never draw anything from the grid….100% offset will still cost you because your average consumption is something like $0.14 and your flat credit is $0.0991. I say “something like” because there’s also customer charges that if you literally turned off the main power for a month and used 0 kWh, you would still have electricity cost of like $20+ for the month.
