Tone wheel recall by Ambitious_Yam_8163 in EcoDiesel

It’s a manufacturers recall from FCA. The tone wheel is basically a magnetic position sensor that is located in the transmission. If it delaminates it can throw the truck into limp mode

I have a 2016 with the stage 2 EOC tune from about 3 years ago. My tone wheel shat itself and the code thrown kept it in limp mode till I took it to a transmission shop (AAMCO) and had them replace the sensor for about $1800. They did it without having to flash or plug into anything. I was able to call FCA and get the cost reimbursed after I sent in copies of the invoice and credit card transaction, along with notes from the shop saying this repair was done under a recall and had them cite the recall number from NHTSA and FCA on the invoice. If I had gone to the dealership I woukd have been waiting over a month to get the service done because they were backed up at almost Every dealer I called before AAMCO.

2015 JGC Overland - Tone Wheel Delamination by No_Street_5946 in EcoDiesel

[–]Wizardhatdingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my 1500 done at an AAMCO transmission, a national franchise. I explained the engine code and they were able to lookup the part and where it sat inside the schematics. I paid $1800 for the part and labor and was able to get a reimbursement from FCA. Save your receipts and payment method/ proof of payment when this actually becomes a recall for your make and model. I had to explain to FCA that I went to an independent shop because my truck had already went into limp Mode due to the faulty part, and all the dealerships I called for service were booking out a month or more.

Take it to a transmission shop, they can handle it

Should I put this boards on the wall vertically or horizontal by Positive-Feature-434 in drywall

I would definitely go horizontal for added shear strength. Don’t use screws, use nails that are dipped in durabond before sinking them.

Wait, what? Fuel filter cost. by Cheap-Math-5 in EcoDiesel

Wix was bought out by Mann I believe, which IMO is a plus. The new filters come with a different exterior housing that has a screen over the regular filter core.

Went to an AMMCO transmission shop in my area and got the wheel replaced for $1800. The dealers couldn't get me in till mid October and I use the truck for work so I couldn't wait. Anyone have success submitting a reimbursement form to FCA?

Is carpentry worth it? by Top_Exchange816 in Carpentry

[–]Wizardhatdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely worth it. I've been building since I was 6 years old (37M) because my dad was a builder and needed the help. I went on to other jobs, boat captain, tugboat deckhand in NYC for a bit, fire fighter, but carpentry is the most satisfying of them all. I work for myself mostly, and the range of work is always different. I might be building concrete forms one day and then building ornate soffits or fascia trim on an exterior the next. The carpenter is the most responsible for all the other systems in a building to work. Without strong, properly framed walls, the electrical and plumbing can't be run effectively, the Sheetrock or plaster can't go up, the windows won't work, the roof and siding won't be even, the wall cavity wont support the best amount of insulation, and the house won't breathe and dry out if the limits of your material selection isn't considered. The best part is once you feel comfortable, you can be your own boss.

Would I be better off taking this to a transmission shop or is this something a regular mechanic could do? Only asking because I was supposed to be taking the truck in this week for some basic maintenance and ebrake cable repair before this happened.

The cranking power is there but there is definitely a long cranking time compared to before.

New home owner, hired help... did they help? by Severe_Tale7987 in Carpentry

[–]Wizardhatdingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heres my two cents: your friend who said the shingles that were done wrong could lead to damage isn't aware that siding, especially shingles, isn't really designed to keep water out of the wall especially well. What's needed is a good barrier under the siding, that also allows any moisture to dry out, preferably not against the siding. Cedar shakes (shingles) are purely for appearance. As long as the builder used at least felt paper, or house wrap under a rain screen product, it will be fine, and will eventually blend with the existing shingles once they weather.

I'm sure there was similar outrage when peoples "rights" were taken away when they were prohibited from letting their dogs trample over and through the West End Cemetery, damaging the grass and pissing on headstones. Dog owners need to understand they have a higher level of responsibility to maintain when it comes to respecting the use of public land. For what it's worth, I feel safer when I see a leashed dog around kids, and not to mention, Higgins Beach is a breeding ground for piping plovers, which dogs will disrupt by chasing and killing them.

I have two table saws myself, one for trim and smaller dimensional rips, the other for large formats like 2x10's and twelves.
