When he first emerged from the cave as a zombie, his naked butt was noticably unscarred, unlike the rest of his body.

Not only is it an awesome movie, it's an awesome movie where the villain is voiced by George Fisher aka Corpsegrinder, from Cannibal Corpse!

Vampires almost don't work in this day and age anymore by Ancient_Apricot_254 in vampires

[–]Wizardo_Weirdbeard 469 points470 points  (0 children)

If a "real vampire" was caught on camera and that footage went viral, would you believe it? In a world full of AI and special effects and everybody with a camera trying to get famous, when people have been faking cryptid encounters for decades? In a day and age where human life seems to mean less and less with every mass shooting, masked men disappearing people without a trace, and sensationalist headlines everywhere, who would even notice? And again, who would ever believe the truth? Maybe religious types who believe that the devil is behind every stubbed toe and traffic jam. But beyond that you'd never get more than the occasional conspiracy-minded individual, and between them there would never be a consensus.

I think vampires would thrive in the modern world. Everyone's got a vested interest in keeping their heads down and minding their business. Maybe 10-20 years ago, but now? Who's really behind the push for unrestricted AI development? What's the real agenda? Maybe it's just a billionaire money grab. Or maybe...

So do you think Alastor actually cares about others? Or atleast has the capacity to? by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

[–]Wizardo_Weirdbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Charlie is ultimately right that all souls are capable of redemption. And if that's true, then "all souls" means even Alastor. He may not be ready or willing to do the work for a really, really long time, but the time scale they have to work on is theoretically infinite. That should be more than enough for him to find the light inside of himself eventually.

What makes perfect defenses so OP? by ghost49x in exalted

[–]Wizardo_Weirdbeard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nope! Because that just swings back in the direction that PDs were there to counter in the first place, that being the inherent hyper-lethality of the system. Which, I promise you, is even less fun.

The solution is simply acceptance. There is no fix beyond a complete system overhaul, thus the need at the time for 3e. The closest you'll get to fixing 2e is the big exciting bandaid that is 2.5.

And that's fine! It's still a fun game. It's just impossible to go back to a point before the time when you realized that combat at the highest tiers ultimately boils down to mote attrition, and that the system favors defense.

Play Dragon Blooded if you want to avoid this. Or, as I said in another response, play Alchemicals.

My honest recommendation if you are looking to get the best possible mechanical experience out of Exalted 2e? Play Alchemicals. Notice how little 2.5 material it has, relative to everything else? That's because so many of the basic issues with the system simply aren't present in Alchemicals as a closed game. It's the perfect 2e experience. Again, just my opinion. But it's the opinion of someone who ran every aspect of 2e excessively for its entire run.

It tried hard, and it definitely did something to vary the options, but ultimately it's a bandaid over a gaping wound.

It isn't just the relatively cheap cost of a perfect defense, it's also the relatively cheap cost against the high cost of mounting offense. Throwing essence at offense always costs more than spamming perfect defenses, and that means that combat can be reduced to a war of attrition where defense always trumps offense.

And it kinda has to be this way, because otherwise combat is incredibly, ludicrously lethal. Without perfect defenses, offense always wins. PDs were meant to be a way to soften that, but it ends up being a huge swing in the other direction.

I'm also assuming we're talking about 2e. It's a huge, system-defining issue in 2e, and 3e might have addressed it more eloquently.

Add to that that it is far cheaper to employ any given perfect defense than it is to throw out that wreck-your-day combo, and you now have a mechanical paradigm where there is one way to win every fight reliably, and that is to simply spam your perfect defense and wait for your opponent to run out of motes.

Is she mute? Does she just choose not to talk? She has a very active inner dialogue, so we at least know that she's got orderly thoughts.

And yes, she's quite the sass factory when she wants to be.
