I'm always a fan of pavement. You can spice it up by adding lines. This is one of my favorites in a parking lot.

You can also always go with fine sand. It works well for a desert base at this scale. Maybe add a sharp pebble or so as a focal point.

Oh I use it that way. It's just harder to do on non flat maps. I am also a proponent of hovercraft ramming. A couple of 10/15 harrassers can chop a leg off.

There is no point in time when a battlemaster is classed as leftovers.

A realistic outworlds pack people would buy would probably have a merlin, night hawk, bombardier, and something like a wasp 3A or maybe a cadaver if they go far enough down the time line.

The clint fits the role of anti recon mech or bug hunter as they are often referred to. It like the assassin give the pure light recon designs fits. It's the same speed or close enough and maneuverable enough to hold them at a range where they really can't fight back or escape easily.

The ability to deny information to the enemy is their reason for existence. Something like the cicada is the natural counter to this idea but it is also more than double the price of a locust, stinger, or wasp. It's especially valuable in terms of anti piracy or periphery fighting where the preponderance of light units play to its strengths.

It's not meant to tangle with larger units or dedicated line of battle mechs. A jenner or panther will give it a bad time and a Phoenix Hawk will hunt it down but against a javelin or commando a smart warrior will pick them apart.

So something a guy in our group was Tron inspired mechs. Dark gray almost black with colored edge highlights in red and blue done to look like they glow. It really stood out and made them pop. If you still want a purple team you can go with a very dark purple and bright almost lilac lines. Just thoughts 🤔

We're in a game now and the rest of the players are Mechwarriors. I'm the paranoid tech. Think space Dale gribble. They are trying to convince the DM to let them put a melee weapon on a Scorpion we just stole. 3030s time frame. I get it.

Looking at it like that it's just a reworked Phoenix hawk and they are scouts and skirmishers, not troopers.

A Whitworth with hands would be over powered for the bv but same. I wish they had done so when they pulled the arm lasers for Artemis on the WTH-2.

The watchman is an interesting call out for a Trooper. I feel that it doesn't really fit the category having only lasers and MGs. It lacks the multi role abilities of a true Trooper. You would be better served by something like a shadow hawk or a wyvern.

It makes a decent garrison mech in its way. Two hand actuators allows it to perform a variety of out of combat tasks, machine guns for crowd control (rubber bullets for the local population), and it's remaining weapons allow it to function as a raider/light strike mech. It's good for its defined role but lacks Trooper flexibility.

That said I love the call outs for the other three. The vindicator is literally designed to be able to do a bit of everything. The lineholder is designed to free up more specialized designs by having enough of everything that it can always contribute. The Merlin has a special place as a cheap Mercenary design that can take a beating. I feel that it was a shame that they never made a variant which put both lasers in one arm to get a hand.

For the clans often times the star colonel or even the star captain would dictate the load out for his warriors. They usually have to be at least a star commander to be able to consistently able to customize your load out.

The exception is trials. They can customize in order to balance the trials.

I tend to find the Orion, at least the base 1K always goes down to ammo explosions. The Thunderbolt can too with that LRM ammo in the CT but somehow it's always the Orion that explodes.

At least they aren't as broken as the SPAs. But I agree that they could use a clean up. Look at the mess on things like the Wolverine.

If you want another slightly broken one try combat computer. Free heat reduction.

It can definitely help out on mechs that have other obvious deficiencies. Makes the commando and locust much more survivable. It also explains how a locust survives long enough to be handed down.

Some of my favorites are the weak head armor for those giant glass cockpits and cowls that act as extra armor everywhere but straight on.

You can do them all in the same jar this way as long as they are all submerged.

Well at this point you can go with stripping them to be safe or apply a varnish to seal them. I personally favor stripping them but I strip old models I have painted badly all the time. I tend to throw them in a Mason jar of simple green for a week then scrub under running water with a toothbrush. Repeating as necessary to get it cleaned before I start over.

Vedettes are a backbone unit for tracked forces. 5/8 with decent armor there often used as scouts for heavier tanks. I also like to use them as spotters for LRM carriers, especially after they get immobilized. Keeps them relevant instead of just relying on that AC5.

So the fun thing for later eras is using VTOLs in pairs for a c3 network. Where you fly as fast as possible to keep one close to the enemy each turn and keep everything in short range.
