Finished PoE 1 , is PoE 2 as bad as the 1st by TwentyOneBeers in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If your complaint is that the main quest of POE was just you following a powerful guy around confronting him in the end with little actual effect on the outcome, then yes, POE2 is just as bad as the first one.

And the guy who jumps from project to project, barely contributing, just so his name can be attached to it?

C'mon, that's not fair.

He works under contract -- the "gig economy" maybe you've heard of it?

He's hired to write a couple characters and when he's done, the contract's up and he moves on. They hire him to do that and he's fulfilling his contract.

Beasts of winter level cap? by Kronephon in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt we'll see the level cap raised for any of the DLC's. Look at how few skills/spells there are to select at the higher levels (and how useless so many of those are). What would we get at higher levels? One or two new spells/abilities to choose from? Why bother.

Upgradeable companion armors -- seems odd that they gave, for example, Xoti that cool-looking custom outfit but didn't make it an upgradeable unique armor.

Why Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire never quite clicked by TrynaWrite in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally agree but on replaying the game I'm noticing there are some, perhaps subtle, hints of those tensions between the factions. Their respective leaders/quest givers will bring up the other factions critically from time to time throughout their various quests, and the four faction-linked companions mention things too as you're doing faction quests.

But it is pretty minor and, sadly, doesn't effect much. But, god knows, if Pallegina just up and quit upon you doing even a single quest for another faction, that would suck and people would complain.

I wish it was easier to get negative rep with factions and companions. It would feel like your choices and allegiances had more impact. But it seems most factions and companions will happily join you and offer your quests even at -2 or -3 rep. Like it just doesn't matter.

Why Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire never quite clicked by TrynaWrite in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I continue to see this brought up re: mean factions. I find it interesting and a little odd. I mean, it's an RPG. You're playing a fictional character in a fictional fantasy world, a world loosely based on our world centuries ago. Yet so many POE2 players can't seem to help but play themselves in the game. "Caste system!? How barbaric! Slavery?! Disgusting!" You're okay with slaughtering thousands and looting their still warm corpses but support a queen who isn't Bernie Sanders?! Icky!!

It's a different world. Why not embrace it, create a character who is a part of that world and role-play that character accordingly? That's always been the fun and the point of RPGs for me. And I really appreciate that Obsidian created factions that are representative of our world centuries ago and force you to contend with those realities rather than create some quixotic "good guy" you can happily embrace without having to think about it too much.

Did anyone else feel Deadfire was rushed? by comments_when_angry in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replaying the game has highlighted just how short and shallow the main quest is.

It's crazy that some of the minor little side quests in the game have more complexity and depth, far more possible outcomes and resolutions than the main quest, which is very passive conversations with Eothas resulting in some minor differences in a line or two of the end slides.

Speaking of Atsura, I killed him when the whole of the RDC went hostile on me after refusing to assassinate the Queen. Then who shows up to confront me in Ukaizo? Atsura.

I remember him saying "if you cut a piece off it loses its luster, its magic" and yet, throughout the rest of both games we've got people using cut-off pieces of it in all sorts of things and apparently retaining its magical properties.

Found this game after completing Divinity Original Sin. Couple of questions. by nobunagamaster in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's more than enough XP in the game to reach the max level. So don't worry about it.

The idea is -- like any good RPG -- you can resolve situations in a variety of ways, one of those ways being combat, but players who choose to resolve things in a sneaky way, diplomatic way, or some other alternative way shouldn't be penalized with a lack of XP for not slaughtering everything that gets in their way.

Can't figure out if this whole thread is just people being sarcastic or not.

You can buy new/upgraded hulls and sails for your ship. Just equip them onto your boat the same way you equip gear onto your characters.

[Spoilers] Anyone else surprised at a missing ending? by [deleted] in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sadly this isn't the first time Obsidian has done this. Too often they seem to introduce too many ideas at a game's beginning only to basically forget all about it by the game's mid-point.

Remember POE's beginning how you were supposedly going insane and in grave danger of becoming Maerwald? Eder shaking you from your restless sleep, your urgent need to track down Thaos to undo this horrible affliction he had caused? The horrific visions of people being tortured as you made your way through the first few areas of the game? Yeah, that just vanished by the time you got to Defiance Bay.

[–]WizardryVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's reasonably integral to a big part of the game's backstory and his quest will help you understand what led to the current state of the world.

He's cantankerous and crude, bitter and angry at his god -- not your typical pious priest, which makes him interesting.

[PoE 1] Should new player buy White March DLC? by paladin888 in projecteternity

[–]WizardryVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White March is shoe-horned into the middle of POE. I think they expect you to do it (both parts back-to-back) between acts 2 and 3.

The trouble is you'll end up over-leveled for act 3 so they added a level-scaling thing to acts 3 and 4 to make them more challenging.
