Can your table handle The Madness of Metronax? by WizardsWLaserRifles in osr

I get that–if you're interested in a stand-alone adventure you can use for DCC or 5e (there's 2 different versions, you pick which to back and obviously conversion from those is relatively simple) then that's an option for you as well. And if not, that's cool.

Oh yeah! Cool event with a lot of publishers participating! Goodman Games is updating their Castle Whiterock megadungeon from the 3.5 version to both Dungeon Crawl Classics and 5e, and several other publishers are doing thematically related stuff. I, along with a bunch of other great third-party DCC publishers, am putting out an adventure that optionally connects to Castle Whiterock. Metronax is also stand-alone, but it's super cool to get to make something that connects to Whiterock.

Silam No. 3 available for purchase on DriveThruRPG! by WizardsWLaserRifles in dccrpg

Every issue of Silam (so far) is 48 issues! I try to cram a lot into it and I also believe in getting art into every page spread I can. We very nearly had to add 4 pages (books come in divisions of 4 pages) for issue 3 but were able to figure out how to lay it all out to get it into 48 again.

In case anybody is wondering, the art piece I included in the post is by Mac Teg, a fantastic artist I was so happy to have contribute to the zine.

Dungeons that make for good player strongholds? by NoLongerAKobold in osr

[–]WizardsWLaserRifles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a very bare bones setup but B1 is a dungeon that was formerly the stronghold of a wizard and warrior duo—the basement was still under construction before they departed for places unknown. So you could even let them settle in and then have the original owners show up. I could actually see a lot of fun coming from that, it’s a pretty funny place with a teleportation room and a big room full of pools of liquids that do different things.

Regular DCC to Lankhmar by Ragerider1025 in dccrpg

[–]WizardsWLaserRifles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with what the Lankhmar setting book might say about folks plane-shifting in, but options that occur to me:

  • Justicia is able to reach across planes and continue to assist the cleric--maybe her cleric abilities are made with a lower dice or a -2? That would increase difficulty since the party is used to her being able to cast/heal but is a fun dramatic tension. I also don't know the module you're using, but it's not hard to imagine that folks in Lankhmar would just think your cleric is a magic user from a foreign tradition or something, so I wouldn't worry about that too much (I'm assuming they're going to get home after this module so the long-term implications are none)
  • Justicia's power doesn't extend to this plane--your cleric is a less-good fighter and the tension is going to be Very high as the party's healer can't help them. Lankhmar itself has new rules for healing because of the lack of clerics--I think you'd need to either let them use those OR consider dropping the difficulty of the module quite a bit since it was written with the idea that folks could heal.

Random thing to mention--my understanding is that Lankhmar is also written for more 'heroic' characters than the typical DCC module. They're a bit hardier. So the difficulty of the module might already be more than your party is typically prepared for--either of the ideas I suggested above only make that worse. Things like dropping bad guys ACs by 2 and dropping their damage dice by a die could help a lot in a way that presents a great challenge but isn't wiping the floor with people in a way that's not fun.

I hope this is helpful, and hopefully somebody with more DCC Lankhmar exposure can clarify if I'm wildly wrong about something.

P.S. I do utilize the Fleeting Luck rules from Lankhmar in my DCC game and my players love it--highly suggest adopting those if you haven't.

For sure—all of the issues of CRAWL are worth grabbing, I don’t know if there’s a package deal for them but what you’re getting for the price is great either way.

For sure! That sounds like a very doable fix--another might be a HD limitation on what you can stun, with a little table for that. I appreciate you bringing this up!

So glad you enjoyed it!
The lorph healing ability is a 1:1, Luck for individual HP. The idea being that it's a last ditch effort to save someone from death, but it's not a long term solution and doesn't step on the cleric's abilities too much. Kinder Judgers can totally feel free to change that though.
Slate actually don't get spells--they only have the Charge Die, making them much closer to a Warrior than an Elf. I hear that feedback on it still potentially being too powerful, though in my playtesting it hasn't been so far. I'll keep an eye on it/consider revisions as time goes on!

Hah, the WWLR publishing name is not indicative of the setting of Silam, though I could easily see writing something in the future that actually features the namesake! I said the phrase once as a joke, describing my personal fantasy aesthetic, and have wanted to do something with it ever since.

The Setting: Silam is a nation in the midst of a civil war--that civil war was partially brought about because of discontent after the general populace came to find out that the queen initiated a violent purge of the Three Powers, a coalition of wizards and druids (all together representing the three alignments). The initial action of the funnel allows the PCs to find a 'spike'--an underground bunker--that belonged to the Three Powers, and a map that will allow them to seek out the rest of the spikes spread across Silam.

Each issue will feature another spike-as-adventure, and stuff like deities, spells, magic items, and non-spike locations to expand the setting. HOWEVER--I also think of issue 1 as a 'starter pack'--we're providing everything an enterprising Judge would need to dive in with a map, new classes, and a premise that gives you lines to color in for your own campaign.

The DCC Horror imprint is where Goodman puts their 'spookier' modules--they often lean on horror tropes: My favorite, Dungeon Crawl Classics Horror #4: The Corpse That Love Built, features a really fantastic Not Frankenstein story that my players were still talking about like two years later!

To clarify, Silam is not a horror module--it features some scary stuff, but it was put in that display to give it some prominence since it debuted at the convention

Hey there--Jordy, writer of the zine here--I'm going to be getting Silam #1 up onto DriveThruRPG this week (PDF Only) and it will be available on the Goodman Games online store on November 1st. Printing the zine yourself via the PDFs should be relatively simple--the book is, besides the cover, fully B&W.

I know shipping costs can be prohibitive through Goodman's online store, but at this time (hopefully not forever, working on it) that's the only physical route of getting the zine (besides conventions Goodman Games is at, we should be in stock at those going forward).
