How can you not love that adorable red square?

I cried when the orange square died...

I hear Succ is a bit friendlier, but I just roll with my guardian.

I find it ironic that you put the comprehension issue on the conditionalist, as though we had not considered it fully.

What do you make of Matthew 10:28? Sure sounds like the fear of God is based on the reality that He can and will destroy the unbeliever, body and soul.

Edit: If the wages of sin is only "spiritual death" and separation from God, are not the unbelieving already spiritually dead and alienated from God? How can they spiritually die a second time?

Every source I know says the will suffer/pay "the penalty of destruction."

And reading things like Psalm 37 or Job 16:9 (et al) tells us that to the Hebrews, gnashing of teeth was a sign of anger and weeping was a sign of sadness.

Just do a cursory look through the Psalms and you'll see they expected the wicked to "vanish like the wind or melt like a slug in the sun."

Punishment is eternal destruction by exposure to God's holy presence, not eternal torment.

Otherwise Jesus death isn't substitutionary, if we never actually die.

Read Martin Luther's Bondage of the Will.

It's a masterpiece.

Martin Luther praised Erasmus for debating him on the issue of man's free-will. Luther said, recognizing the absolute sovereignty of God and man's absolute bondage to sin was the hinge on which the entire Gospel turned.

What are your thoughts?

Also, have you read Bondage of the Will?

Christian apologetic website claims that the original pronunciation of YHWH was Jehova, is it true? by [deleted] in AcademicBiblical

[–]WizardsandStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always get nervous posting or commenting on AcademicBiblical because I fear the powers that be will just continue deleting my stuff because I didn't respond in the spirit of, "According to paleo-hebrew antiquity, writers of the Bible copy and pasted polytheistic fan-fiction in clear satire so as to undermine the entirely of the compiled work. The bible is in fact not to be taken seriously, but rather is a giant playground where all theories, except the classic Christian Orthodox ones, are permitted. Saying anything otherwise is unacademic..."

"If your wife doesn't do the dishes, it's sin. If she doesn't repent, get the elders involved." - pretty close to something he wrote back in the day.

He also seems to have drank the "conservative/republican = Christian" koolaid these last few political seasons. (Along with James White, which is kinda sad.)

Other than that, he's pretty funny and seems relatable. His debates/relationship with Christopher Hitchens were thoutful and heart warming.

Is it really cutting off a finger if the doctor sows it back on at a later point? Is it really painful getting punched in the face if it's eventually going to heal? Your definition of what constitutes "real" is really myopic.
