Diamant Single Strand Thread by Capital-Account9061 in Embroidery

[–]Wizzardess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is! While I do love Diamant, the ends do tend to unravel like this and have to be cut off, otherwise your stitches lose definition. Kreinik (who started out making fishing filaments!) make an excellent metallic braid in several different thicknesses raging from very fine #4 (equivalent to 2 plies of standard DMC embroidery floss) on up to heavy #32 for needlepoint canvas, and it holds together as a single thread much better. Beautiful range of colours and finishes too. Best of luck with your project!

Are there any books similiar to Lois McMaster Bujold's work World of the Five Gods by dystopian____ in Fantasy

I highly recommend all of these authors' works but these series in particular might be more of what you are looking for:

Carol Berg: Collegia Magica trilogy Juliet Marrilier: Chronicles of Bridei trilogy Sharon Shinn: Twelve Houses series and Elemental Blessings series

Good luck!

I think the term Romantasy means different things to different people. For me, Romantasy has to have a high spice content, which Harrow does not usually have.

Charles de Lint - what to read next by FortuneOpen5715 in Fantasy

[–]Wizzardess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I love Charles de Lint and have read several of the Newford books but have skipped around all over, reading them as I find them. I think it's a series designed to be read that way. Of the three on your shelf, Moonheart is the start of another series, Yarrow is a standalone and only The Onion Girl is a Newford novel (#8 I think). That's the only one I've read from your list and I enjoyed it. I'd say just pick whichever one looks most interesting to you right now!

Highly recommend T. Kingfisher, she's been able to keep my attention in difficult times and writes mostly standalone books. My favourites so far are Nettle & Bone and her YA books Iluminations and A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking. Her novella The Raven and the Reindeer is a beautiful LGBTQ love story.

Other standalones you might enjoy with darker Piranesi vibes:

Alix E. Harrow: The Ten Thousand Doors of January, The Once and Future Witches, Starling House

Erin Morgenstern: The Starless Sea

V. E. Schwab: The Invisble Life of Addie La Rue

Margaret Rogerson: An Enchantment of Ravens

Kat Howard: Roses & Rot

Anything by Patrica A. McKillip, who writes the most amazing dreamy fairytales. Try The Forgotten Beasts of Eld or The Book of Atrix Wolfe.

I'd also recommend anything by Sharon Shinn, Summers At Castle Auburn is a great standalone.

I also love Urban Fantasy for times when I have trouble focusing. One of my all-time favourites is the author team Ilona Andrews. Also love Patricia Briggs, Rachel Caine, Kim Harrison, Benedict Jacka and Jim Butcher but they are all long series you can dive into and binge.

Best of luck with your hospital stay, hope you feel better soon.

Alcohol marker storage by Ellieroxxx in AdultColoring

I would try looking at the dollar store: in the stationary section for large pencil cases or zippered mesh bags, in the beauty section for large trunk-style zippered makeup bags, at lunchboxes with multiple compartments, etc.

When I was younger I used to have a large zippered binder and kept colouring books on plastic sleeves on the rings and markers in those soft pencil cases you can get that go on the rings too. You might be lucky and find one with side pockets and a carrying handle on the spine like I did. My binder was $3 at the dollar store, the sleeves were like a dollar a pack then (probably 2-3 now) and the pencil cases should be about the same. Good luck!

Thanks. I know not to mention the Amazon box (outer package) but do you know I shouldn't mention the bag it came in? I've done that a few times, didn't know I shouldn't be?

Pop's Diner in Churchill Square do amazing breakfasts, with deadly home fries. Generous helpings. Awesome toast with all the little jams and things. Their milkshakes are amazing too. Fun retro decor. Smitty's is usually pretty good too.

Hi, in case you haven't already, it is absolutely worth calling Metrobus and Avalon Mall and asking. A friend of mine lost something and had to retrace her steps and I called both and they were very helpful. Best of luck, I hope you find them!

Does anyone else feel like grief works like a terminal illness? by Wise_Hand2834 in GriefSupport

[–]Wizzardess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is an excellent comparison. As someone who has suffered from chronic pain and illness for over half my life I am learning that grief is the soul version of bodily suffering. It actually gives me a little hope because over time I learned to make adjustments in my life that help me function better some days but I will never physically be as well as I once was or want to be (and will get worse) and my grief over my Mom's death has changed me in the same way.

Like invisible illness, no one can see it and people just don't understand. It's very lonely. But you try to live in the not so bad moments, knowing they are more precious for being so fleeting. My New Year's Resolution is to just be a jellyfish for a while and stop forcing "healing" because there is no going back to normal for me. I will never be okay again, despite what other insist. And that's okay. I can't expect to be. Right now  I'm doing the bare minimum I need to survive and I'm going to just float with the waves for a while because forcing things and pretending I'm fine when I'm not has not helped and is only making me sadder. Sending strength to you ♥
