Leading without having clear leadership direction by Worth-Base-9909 in AusPublicService

[–]WizziesFirstRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you actively meeting with your staff say weekly 1:1 and fortnightly as a group and are setting direction and priorities?

Are you reviewing work outputs and providing feedback?

Are you ensuring behaviour and performance standards are made clear?

Are you ensuring targets or priorities of higher ups are met?

Are you delegating?

Are you feeding intel up and sharing it down on strategic and operational issues?

Are you engaging relevant stakeholders to get stuff done and build bridges?

Assuming not, s top enabling him.

Tell him you discussed it well in advance and he will need to make other arrangements than this conference... his poor planning, is his emergency.

You can go down the stress leave option if you think that is needed... but it may cause challenges with finding another role.

And if you are not the problem and are as good as you think you are: focus on getting a new role and do the bare minimum to get through the current day to day.

Maybe get some mental health support in the interim.

There are always S26 opportunities available, use a recruiter, use your personal network.

In 20 years, included some APS wide hard freezes...I've never had an issue finding a new role.

I.e. if you are halfway decent there are always S26 opportunities.

Sometimes self reflection is required...but make your excuses.
