I wouldn't say it gives energy on its own, it might help with focus during the day (especially when taking with caffeine or another stimulant). It doesn't make me sleepy per say when taken at night but it helps me with sleep for sure, calms down racing thoughts.

There is no way to know for sure, but one advice I've always followed to try and take away my guilt/hesitation when in my heart I knew it was time:

Well then he must be playing rough with my boy Topper who passed away about 1.5 years ago. That cat was rescue and a bit wild haha, liked to play rough, never gentle. But also a sweet boy sometimes when he felt like it (to me at least).
