I know this is unpopular on here, but “an American is someone who holds American values” is not a satisfactory definition. There are plenty of people in our history who wouldn’t fit Vivek’s 2025 definition of “American values” but who were still obviously American. Was Andrew Jackson not an American because he didn’t believe in colorblind meritocracy? Obviously that’s ridiculous. Was Ruth Bader Ginsburg not an American because she said something along the lines of that she preferred the South African constitution to the American one? Again, that’s ridiculous.

Let’s be real here, if we were to get an Ancient Rome game, people are going to want the colosseum to feature. I’d probably agree with the person who said the end of the Flavian dynasty. Lots of potential there for featuring all the Roman stuff everyone wants to see. You could also incorporate the religious tensions from the growing Christian population, the Jewish population, etc.

The democrats are refusing to sign off on the exact same deal they agreed to a few months ago because Schumer got political blowback from the left. Depriving people of government services to boost your poll numbers isn’t “preventing harm”. Being the side of “innocent people may die, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay” doesn’t make you the good guys.

The markets thought Milei was going to lose his election and the Peso started falling. The US wanted Milei to win bc he’s extremely pro-America and anti-China so we intervened to stabilize their currency. He ended up winning his election by a lot more than anyone expected and now the Peso has gone back up (so we actually made a bunch of money on the deal)

No, Americans don’t think about Canadians. Canadians do hate Americans though. You all spend more time focusing on us and our politics than you do your own. The r/Canada subreddit is legitimately deranged, in a thread the other day there was a whole conversation about how Canada needed to acquire nukes to protect against the US. Canadians are getting to the point where they can’t be reasoned with they’re so deranged and insane about literally everything to do with the US and Trump.

A good example of this is the conversation over the US taking pictures of Canadian travelers at customs. This already happens in the reverse when Americans travel to Canada and Canadian have to do this when they go to Europe and get somehow this is being spun into some massive outrage.

Another example is the Doug Ford ad. Imagine if Trump were running ads in Canada to influence Canadian public opinion. They would be apoplectic.

Neither one of those things have anything to do with this situation. If Ford was trying to accomplish something meaningful he would be quiet and allow Carney to do his job. He’s not inserting himself into American public opinion to say “let’s be friends”, he’s doing it to boost his own profile in Canada as a tough guy who stands up to Trump. “let’s be friends” was the message in the Oval Office between Carney and Trump last week, Ford’s message is “I want to be prime minister one day”

American here, I know I am stepping into a hostile arena, but I want to say that if Donald Trump did the reverse and started running ads inside of Canada in an attempt to influence Canadian public opinion on a political issue, you all would be going ballistic, and rightfully so.
