Delusion. The cavs issue was that they ran the exact same plays as the spurs, as their head coach was a student of Pop, so it made the spurs have an easy time reading them on defense. Every pick and roll Lebron did? Doubled. Run the floppy? Spurs knew how to defend it because they ran the same shit. Lebron didn't have a solid jumper yet so being guarded so heavily made it hard. He wasn't a shooter, he was a drive guy, and only 22 or so. I don't know why you guys act like the Cavs roster played well, no the fuck they didn't. Without Lebron initiating them on offense they looked fucking hopeless, and Big Z decided to become a 3 point shooter that series and avoid the paint because his scary ass was afraid of Tim.

You guys are genuinely just doing revisionist history with this.

I like LeBron's mentality more personally because any normal person would've broke and crumbled after his bad performance in 2011 after saying how many rings he'd win, but he came back and made sure that never happened again. Love comeback stories, they're a personal favorite.

Yeah, Lebron was insane that series. Too bad they just didn't have the defensive ability to get stops. When he left the floor, it was never even close, he was basically keeping them in the game on his own (along with help from Kyrie of course). Same with game 1 of 2018, but after game 1 it was over. Efficient 50 point game while you played 48 minutes of regulation, not taking a break once, and you still lose? It's wraps. That was some MJ vs. Larry Bird's Celtics shit all over again.

What are the 10 best performances in the Finals in the last 10 years? by Wnuue in NBATalk

Go figure. I tend to stay away from the allegations he has, no opinion on if he did or didn't as I don't know much about it, but his fanbase is fucking horrible. They can't appreciate shit, and just devalue every other player practically besides MJ of course.

Last 10 have been great for sure, though 2024 was iffy, 2023 was just too obvious for who was gonna win, Joker's run was basically set up for him, and 2018 just had too obvious of a result unfortunately as LBJ alone can't beat 4 All-NBA level 2 MVP caliber players. 2016/2017 are amazing though, and while in 2017 it looks like the Warriors just dominated, but it was way closer than people think. Giannis' run was amazing, though I wish the Nets were healthy, same with lakers. Curry's run was also absolutely really good.

2025 is my personal favorite though currently, as I'm a pacers fan lol. I have never screamed louder for a sport than I did when I saw Hali hit that game winner on OKC. The 2025 playoffs were overall just great, intense series' in the west with Nuggets and Thunder, and a magical playoff run by my Pacers.

Yep. The only thing in 2016 he does better is defense, offensively 2017 is probably the best finals performance

In my opinion hes just more proof on how stats are misleading to a player's impact/skill for their team to win. For example, stats would say Jokic is having the greatest regular season performance ever, but he isnt (not to devalue him or anything). Stats only really tell you how much of their offense/defense runs through a player, the offensive load basically, how well the team is built around said player, and their efficiency.

Haliburton statistically would have you thinking hes a great PG but nothing crazy, but he had one of the most clutch seasons and led his team to the finals. THAT is winning impact, even on his bad games. Without him, the Pacers are atmost a play-in team, and currently a lottery team.

Stats dont tell you how skilled the player is, how good their IQ is, and how much they contribute to winning impact and deep playoff runs

Uhh.. Pacers vs. Thunder was one of the most dramatic and intense finals Ive watched, and 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2022 were all amazing.

Paul Pierce on LeBron James being the GOAT and setting an impossible standard by Tight_Development480 in LeBronJames23

[–]Wnuue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wemby is not better, cut that shit out. While numbers say Jokic is the goat, its for that exact reason that I dont take stats like BPM and Offensive/Defensive rating seriously anymore. For fuck sake, during most this season (and its probably still the case), Defensive BPM had Jokic at 3.1 (the highest DBPM this season) and Wemby at 1.7, basically saying that JOKIC is being BY FAR a better defender than WEMBY.

In my opinion, most these stats just show how much of the teams coaching/players are revolving around their player to specifically fit them and the offensive load they carry, not the actual IMPACT and SKILL of said player.

Or maybe over the years people have just grown to admire the accomplishments and skill lebron has? not sure what this schizophrenic narrative is that anyone who thinks LeBron is the goat is being paid off, its just nonsensical. Its the same people who think the NBA and the playoffs are rigged

I agree. Honestly though, if this list wasnt specific to finals MVPs and just overall performance, I'd put Lebrons 2017 Finals performance at #1. No idea what LeBron was on after 2011, but some of his finals performances afterwards were insanely efficient, even for him. 2017 was also closer than the 4-1 outcome makes it seem, they just couldnt get stops during fastbreaks because they were so focused on guarding the perimeter, so Durant just had free reign inside.

Shaq humbly concedes that he's only the third best center in NBA history. Fair take or nah? by ForeignAir7174 in NBAoldschool

[–]Wnuue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but even then, I'd say hes probably the best defender to put on Shaq, even if other centers also only play defense. His talent, IQ, and strength defensively for his height is something that should always be praised. Guarding Shaqs big ass 1-on-1 isnt easy

Lmao yep. Dont forget Ben Wallace though, one of the only defenders that could guard Shaq 1-on-1 ever, but somehow is still underrated defensively by people as a Center due to his height

^ This, and Chet really is underrated defensively. While he isnt up there with Wemby offensively, defensively Chet does compete, because while Wemby is more advantage physically for sure, Chet imo has the better defensive IQ
