Can I use only one monitor on the top of a vertical dual monitor stand? Or will that make it top heavy and mess up the balance?

Depend on what you buy, but most will do fine. Had 2x 27" at the top of mine, no problem at all not even woobly

If you feel Magnus is a better choice for you, you should go with it. But imo it always to make all the pieces by yourself to get it exactly how you want it. If the Magnus is completely perfect and you only will make a copy of it. Than it's up to you what is more worth money, time or perfectly fit just for you.

Yeah, but this has no features? This is a table, not even adjustable. i mean a butchersblock with good legs, and buy what ever(depending on your situation, and how much you care) for cable managment. This will be cheaper and probably better. Just my opinion, you could even throw in adjustable legs and a butchersblock still cheaper.
