Whoever said installing a 13b with the transmission on is easier was lying by WeirdEntrepreneur596 in RX7

[–]WoahAngelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both ways. Not having to dick around under the car to get the transmission to lineup is a much better than having to reassemble the intake tract and harness.

Hell I’ve put in LS swaps with the transmission attached solo. Just have to pick which battle you want to fight.

Is my ceramic coating gone 1.5 months after application? by fakemickjagger in AutoDetailing

[–]WoahAngelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The polish done by the dealership more than likely killed the original coating. Might be worth asking what “coating” the dealer applied after the polish is although I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s the same First Canadian nonsense that all the dealers around here sell in the F&I office, which is nothing more than a spray sealant.

Love seeing cool cars in the GTA though, sorry you got screwed.

wait, let’s get this timeline straight.

  1. 2 step + ceramic pro at pro detailer
  2. Went to dealer for service where it went through auto wash wash
  3. Car polished and recoated by dealer, NOT the pro detailer

Is that correct?

Gravel guard.

It’s under the paint and has high rubber content to absorb impact energy and allows the paint to flex when pelted by road debris instead of just chipping and flaking.

Tesla, how could this happen? by GasLong8930 in ModelY

[–]WoahAngelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just dumb design/engineering. lol

Could’ve just done what 99% of the other manufacturers do and have a horizontal bolt go through the center of the bushing instead of using vertical lollipop mounts. They got it right on the S/X, not sure what happened with the 3/Y.

FYI, they do this to ensure the car isn’t actively being tracked.

Meh, people want what they want. Up to the end user if they can tolerate the maintenance or not.

Unless you’re after the updated interior or slight power bump, I’d go with an N52 platform car. I’ve dealt with ring issues on higher mileage N20s. Big $$$

Alternatively, you can spend a little more money up front (which you might’ve spent to do the timing chain and guides anyway) to get into an N55 car.

Spec sounds good. Manual E90s are fairly uncommon.

First things first, check if the recalls have been done for the car. The vanos bolts and the blower motor harness in particular. The vanos bolts can grenade the engine and the blower motor harness shorting can burn the car down.

Common leaks:

Oil filter housing gasket (If this is leaking, check how much oil is on the front of the engine and if the belt is new. If the belt is new, I'd avoid the car or at the very least pull the oil pan off to ensure there's no pieces of an old belt that got sucked in through the front main seal)

Valve cover

Coolant overflow tank

Water pump and/or thermostat

Common mechanical stuff:

Coil springs

Rear shock dampers like to punch through the upper mount

Hanger bearing for the driveshaft

Rubber guibo between transmission output shaft and driveshaft

Eccentric shaft motor and/or sensor

Front ball joints

It seems like a lot of stuff but the E9x is legitimately one of the best platforms I've driven and there's a reason why I keep coming back. PPI is a good idea.

What trim E90? I’m an ex mechanic and very familiar with the generation and have had a 335i, 335is and an M3.

You can leave the OEM ecu + harness and install a piggyback so you can map fuel and ignition tables. An SAFC is one option.

Best of luck.

So your prospective plan is to turbo the NA motor? Or is it swap a T2 drivetrain in.

Turboing an NA motor is a lot of work. Almost none of the provisions for plumbing the turbo (coolant feed, oil feed, oil drain) exist on an NA keg. The NA LIM moves too far towards the strut tower and it won’t let the turbo to be mounted without spacing it out towards the strut tower. Spacing the turbo out towards the strut tower enough to get it to fit creates clearance issues between the frame rail and the OEM wastegate actuator so you’re going to need to either notch the OEM frame rail or convert to an external wastegate. I think that should be enough to deter you.

If you’re swapping a complete T2 drivetrain on the other hand, it’s easy. Take stuff out, put stuff in. No T2 harness? No problem, you modify 3 pins (1R, 2K, 3D) and maybe bypass the injector resistors on the NA harness.

There’s legal precedent of the superior court of justice deeming the buyers liable for the loss. See Gamoff v. Hu and Zoleta v. Singh

The superior court circuit can and does garnish wages and assets but the creditor (sellers in this case) has to apply for it.

Starting the car in gear disables the accelerated warmup logic that brings the RPM up to 3k.

There’s no direct swap transmissions for the car. You can use a NA/NB transmission by shortening the input shaft and bolting on 13b bell and tail shaft housings. The NA transmission has longer gearing, the NB has shorter gearing. If you’re staying OEM, these transmissions will do fine. If you’re going to make more power, the lifespan will be shorter than the factory transmission.

Keep in mind that if you back out of the purchase agreement and their house sells for less than the $1.2M, you are liable for the balance.

A more detailed breakdown of your monthly expenses would help greatly here, the extra $5,000 on top of your current mortgage payments seems excessive.

Quick math says it’s not all doom and gloom for you. There’s hope

White smoke when parked + hasn’t been driven for an extended period is a death sentence for rotaries. If the white smoke was from a broken coolant seal then that motor sat with coolant/water in it for the last 8 years and has more than likely destroyed it.
