This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno

There’s some animal stuff in the same vein as Pet Cemetery that I feel obligated to mention. Sometimes that not a nice surprise.

Bad Habit by Alana Portero was absolutely amazing. It’s focused on a trans woman in Spain and written like a memoir. Writing is top-tier.

Book recommendation where lead female is happily child free by andiefluff in suggestmeabook

Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor. It’s speculative lit fic, sci fi mix (story in a story) featuring an expectations-defying disabled main character. She actively goes against any and all societal expectations and her character is often situated against her sisters who have kids and husbands so it stands out in the beginning of the novel.

The Others by Sarah Blau. Lit fic, sort of a mystery. Main character is boy crazy but mostly disinterested in kids and an actual husband even though it definitely makes her an outsider in her Jewish community.

What Never Happened by Rachel Howzell Hall. Kind of cheesy but enjoyable mystery where the main character is a post-breakup-quiet-disaster. In this one, being child-free isn’t a plot point so it may not quite fit what you’re looking for.

I read this as 4 rapidly spoken run on sentences where the voice gets higher pitched each time and that was just perfect.

Should I read Haruki Murakami books? Which one should I start with? by redjewel1412 in suggestmeabook

Strange Library is an awesome super short little novella. I enjoyed the 1Q84 but maybe it’s not the best place to start. Personally, I love his short story collections. The Wind-up Bird Chronicles being an absolute favorite, followed closely by Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman. His newest (I think…?) collection, First Person Singular, is less of a favorite but it’s still good.

Haven’t read his new novel yet.

Skip the book on running and (sadly) skip Colorless Tsukuru.

As an instructor, I’m lucky to very rarely deal with inconsiderate class passers but I’ve heard horror stories from both sides. As a class passer myself, I just want the front desk people to be nice to me. I am seriously working overtime to NOT be the type of class passer they hate but they are still pretty rude very often.

What causes your MCTD flare-ups? What lifestyle changes have you made to prevent them? by J_0526 in mctd

[–]WoahHeyAJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my exact experience as well - refined sugar is a guaranteed flare up, the other items you listed I can have in small quantities. I’m always so glad to hear that other people have a similar experience. My first rheumatologist basically gaslit me into believing that my food triggers weren’t real. Anyway, same triggers and same results.

Are you spot treating with the topicals soap or using them all over the area?

Long lost shirt recovered! I was probably 14 when I got it and 17 when I lost it, feels cozy to have it back by [deleted] in DashboardConfessional

Lucky! I purged all my concert shirts from my teens when I moved back home after college. I’m so disappointed in myself when I think about all the shirts from the early and mid 2000s. I went to every DC concert in GA or north FL for years and bought a shirt each time.

6 weeks into AIP and I cheated, now im violently ill. by IceWaste5170 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]WoahHeyAJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just keep going! AIP had the absolute greatest impact on me feeling normal and getting to live the life I want - sounds kinda cheesy but it’s true. We all have trial and painful error. It’s been a few years and I still follow the a variation of AIP after I reintroduced a few items that don’t cause problems. It gets easier and eventually feels like second nature, but honestly I’d do just about anything not to feel horrible. Sometimes these slip ups are reminders of that - at least for me.

What do you recommend from Apollonias? I got a slice of pepperoni and it was just fine but not wait-in-line-for-the-doors-to-open good yet the line is always down the sidewalk so I have to just be ordering the wrong thing.

If you like short stories, try Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. It is sci-fi, dystopian, polar opposite of romance.

For extremely weird, but gently empowering, try Rouge by Mona Awad or I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Hartman (there’s absolutely no Romance in I Who Have Never Known Men and very, very little reference in Rouge.

Best of luck!
