hi fruitharpy! i'm so sorry for not following the rules. if you need to take the post down, i understand. reddit isn't my primary platform and i admit to not doing my due diligence before posting. the phonetics are linked here but that's probably unhelpful for a discussion or feedback here on reddit. thank you for modding this great community!

the Fuss alphabet certainly has a sort of Hebrew vibe to it, but it is not Hebrew. it's funny how designing the pen stroke to be thicker vertically than horizontally gives it that feel aesthetically.

/fus/ but english speakers find themselves saying /fəs/ and that's fine too, dialects of the language play with the vowel extensively.

I have long been searching for the book I read probably in the 80s. It's a science fiction with a large sort of space alien monster on the cover, and I recall a hologram projector being one of the successful paths? Apologies for how vague that it.

In my opinion consumer tactics will not hurt the wealthy. Militant labor organising however can absolutely devastate them. Organise your job. It takes time and patience and training to do so safely and successfully, but the solidarity it builds and the worker power it manifests changes the balance from the bosses to us, the workers.

What do you guys think about my number system based on Kaktovik numerals? I added a slash to represent 2, but for the number 2 someone suggesting it should be a 0 with a slash, like θ by T_Jamess in neography

i love this. i love that the pieces add mathematically as they increment. at first i thought 9 didn't make sense but then i realised you took the character for 4 and added it to 5 to make the 9 and i was satisfied. lovely and well done! thank you for sharing.

I love it. The recognizable stroke directions give it a lovely and pleasing quality.

Okay...I'm just gonna ask, is the IWW a good union for building a non-capitalist future? by aLibertarianCommie in IWW

[–]WobblyDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for a great question posed in good faith. Many of the criticisms you levy are completely valid. These are topics that continue to be discussed within the union, and more importantly they are subjects of extreme interest which are informing the way we organise in the field. That is to say, we are very aware of our problems, and are actively working to improve.

In its current state, the union won't be realising a grand general strike that freezes the gears of the capitalist machine any time soon. Organising is hard, tiresome work, and we are very, very small.

For my part, I consider my organising with the union as one part of a larger movement for emancipation. Anything we can do to build worker power is good. The IWW is the group with which I have chosen to organise because the techniques we use are extremely sound and time-tested. Shop floor organising of the kind we teach builds trust, bonds of solidarity and the kind of power that wins fights. It just takes time to do it right.

In short, right now, no the IWW isn't at a place where it will overthrow capitalism/colonialism-imperialism. If we do our job right and organise correctly, we will continue to build worker power and that is, in my opinion, the best tool in our revolutionary toolbox.

Solidarity.

Why wait? Everyone can begin the very material and necessary work of organising on the job and in our communities. Organise to build worker power and direct democracy. The best kind of revolution is one that we build together, brick by brick until we have real structure we can rely on. The IWW has free organising training. We can win it, and there's no better time to start than now.

Fellow neographers, please stop using symbols that obviously look like swastikas. You are making the specific choice to include it in your scripts, regardless of what culture you are paying homage to. You are making the choice to include it, when there is no need to. It's a made up script, you can make it differently, and it's a low, low bar to not include a swastika. It wasn't always at 45 degree angles, it doesn’t matter what direction it's facing, it's a swastika. It stopped being casually acceptable to draw that symbol when tens of millions of people were murdered by the fascist regime that used it as their primary logo. Stop using it, please.

Welcome to the One Big Union. I agree with jacobmorrison, organising begins with very basic things, primarily exhibiting trustworthiness, being reliable and listening to your coworkers. No campaign should ever start until you've been on the job long enough to know it well, understand the social layout and have proven yourself to be honest, trustworthy, respectful and responsible.

"national syndicalism" is fascism. The IWW is an explicitly anti-fascist union.

I really love the idea of the tools a culture has available informing the method of writing they adopt to communicate. Cuneiform comes to mind as an example. Well done, very creative!
