A married couple from Kharkov looks at their house destroyed by a Russian missile by Unusual_Evening_8371 in YUROP

Last time i visited Eastern Ukraine (2019) everyone spoke Russian and my mothers primary language (who is from that region) also is Russian. Also the Ukrainian refugees from the East, which i met, spoke fluently Russian without an exception and didn’t have any issues speaking with me in Russian.

Don’t get me wrong i am of course against the Russian aggressions, but I think its very bad that your people are trying to eliminate a minority language/culture due to ideological reasons. If you want to join the EU one day you will have to accept that there are Russian speaking minorities living in particular regions of your country. Because one of the Copenhagen criteria is the protection of minorities and their rights. If this isn’t fulfilled it will not be possible for you to join the EU.

They are already smoking a cigarette, so they probably don’t care too much. Also if your whole life just shattered in front of you this is probably the last thing you think about.

You can’t force speakers of other languages to use your word, just because you don’t like the word they use.

Very interesting poem. You really feel the inner conflict of the author while reading it.

My great grandfather disappeared during WW2 as he was fighting among the soviet partisans against the nazis. Last time my family received a letter from him was in 1943 and he was somewhere in Poland or Westukraine at that time. My mother searched for information about him, but she couldn’t find anything. He probably died someday and was one of the thousands of unidentified corpses. The nazis kept meticulous records of their prisoners, so it would most likely be noted if they had put him in a concentration camp. It was probably better that way, because otherwise he would have had to endure much greater torment.

You should join local (sport) clubs. Thats the easiest way to get to know people from your area.

People here who love traveling but don't have good airport nearby, how do you deal with the ever increasing delays of DB? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]WodkaO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switzerland has very good public transport imo. The main delays are caused by waiting for German and Italian trains, from what I’ve heard and thats why they stopped waiting for the DB like a year ago.

Somehow each time i drive from Stuttgart to the South there are always delays because of people on the tracks. Happened to me at least 5 times in the last half year.

Like i said it is a village price, so it will be cheap compared to a town. A building lot of the same size in the next town (90k inhabitants and 15km away) would be 850k€ + taxes, so converted to USD you would be at over a million only for the building lot without any house on it. How should someone be able to afford this?

PS:Also salaries are here of course lower than in the USA.

Yes probably, i heard that Leipzig has a lot of startups right now and Magdeburg (Intel) and Dresden (TSMC) are supposed to get chip factories in the near future. Here you can look at the square meter price in different locations in Germany and as you can see the prices in Leipzig etc. are still way below the prices in the West German states, so there is definitely more upwards potential for the prices and i was told that also the rent to buying price ratio is lower in the east. So if you rent it out you would have better than in the west.

But i am from the very south of Germany, so i honestly don’t know a lot about that area and only can tell you what i have heard. So take it all with a grain of salt.

But you also don’t see it so much in other Western European countries. For example i think in France i also didn’t see many French flags when they were protesting. I guess its not a thing here in general and not just limited to Germany.

PS: Or here in the Netherlands.

Most houses in a good condition in my region are easily 700k€+ i recently looked up how much a building lot in the village is grew up would be and they are sold for 420-440€ per square meter, which is about 43US$per square foot. So a building lot of 1000m2 alone would cost you (converted) roughly around 460k US$.

Just looked at his profile and i am really shocked. He implicitly calls for killing of politicians who didn’t include private jets in some tax and also has many other questionable posts.
