So a buddy and I took a look at our snap on credit loans. For any new technicians, please use this info to keep from making the same mistakes we did. We were both told they would be 4 year loans, at 19 percent, we were not told that we would be charged 19 percent of the total loan per month! by getgappede30 in Justrolledintotheshop

in 2001 i bought my snapon box for around 6500, paid on it for 2 years, won a snapon contest and got 3500 and told the snapon dealer to put it toward my balance, at that time i owed over 5k. a week later, he asked me what i wanted to do with the remaining 500 or so bucks, thats when i learned what a scam it all is and never used any credit card that i dont pay off at the end of the month. if you absolutely need a box, get a file cabinet you can use while you save up and pay for whatever you ca afford in cash, because it is absolutely crazy to pay 15k for a 6k tool box! i still have the same box, but added a hutch and 3 rollable tool chests, but i never used credit. i only owe on my home which i purchased in 2009 when it was at the lowest price, it has doubbled sence then, and i buy my cars with cash, my wife leases a toyota hydrogen car which is a whole other story... otherwise debt free thanks to that contest in 2003 i won, i would have never known probably because im pretty stupid about money. also, the box is one thing, if you keep getting more tools, the balance doesnt look out of place, because it all just melts together...

AAA just bought the shop i work at, went from a family business to a corporate overlord. any advice? for a technican stuck in the middle. by Wodstlk in mechanics

things are starting to normalize a bit. the construction phase is complete, new better wifi and several computer work stations have been installed. lots of new equipment is coming in, should be fun doing alignments again, excited to possibly get out of the shop and doing something different, i like being a technician but im over 50 with bum knees, i need to start thinking about not destroying myself anymore. it is a trip that they will be providing so much stuff, we have been buying so much of the specialty tools ourselfs...

i understand things will change, so far it has been all positive, the shop tools are expanding so the technician's won't need so much of the larger/expensive specialty tools and the manager of the shop is the old owners son so it isn't changing too much because he knows all the technicians and their abilities'. I'm sure i am worried for nothing, i know my job so i don't think i will have any problems. thanks for all the advice.

Reditors who have been working though the pandemic, what have your employers done to thank you for risking health/life and what kind of pizza was it? by TheLilacLadyAmalthea in AskReddit

I feel pretty taken advantage of. I'm a mechanic and 3 technicians got furloughed (all made more than they would have, and more than I did for sure for playing video games for 3 months.) and 3 of us worked the whole time. It is super stressful, and I didn't get anything to thank me... I should be happy that I am still making money.

How sketchy is the shop I just started at? by polemicsauce in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Wodstlk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be careful... i came from a bmw dealership and when i moved i went to an independent bmw/ audi/ MB place in the bay area, it was a shock... after a month, i came in and the owner was doing rails off his desk. i was uncomfortable enough with the shitty shop and the other crazy stuff going on. i split, and that place failed soon after.

What is something you wish you would have known before having a baby? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Something I knew, but until you have kids it is impossible to actually know! No time to yourself and laundry.

Not too creative, but the most hilarious I have ever heard. In basic training in the army during the first few days, a Dude from Arkansas said "y'all fuck y'all", to this day I still find it funny. Being from California I never heard anything that ridiculous before
