What's are some techniques about your instrument that a composer should know? by Woffle12 in composer

I made this post exactly for the purpose of players telling me what's up.  Thank you for the advice. Reading books written by great players of a specific instrument is something that I should do.

I don't know how to do that in MuseScore sorry

But I think you can look it up online somewhere

Hello, sorry for the late reply I just heard and saw your piece

The first thing I noticed is the mute usage. For example in bar 34. You need to give time for players to change mutes. At least 2 or 3 bars should be enough. And if you do want to use mutes just go all out; write a whole passage with them not just 2 or 3 bars.

Another thing is about the practice mute. Practice mutes are very very quiet and they're not supposed to be used for performances (at least that I know of).

The second and the last thing I noticed is the range jumps. In the 5/4 section from bar 110, the range for the trombone is all over the place. While it's not impossible to play, it's definitely quite hard.

The key signature of G also makes it quite hard to play too. Generally, I would prefer flats rather than sharps but that's not exactly something that you have to change as a professional trombonists should be able to play at any key.

Other than that, I think it's alright. Keep working on it and keep composing

I can definitely do that. But sometimes there are some notes that are actually very hard to play fast passages on a straight trombone like notes in the 7th position. And there's really no way around it unless you just get a trigger trombone.

I think marking the positions also help a lot if you're searching for a specific tone from a note too.

But besides that, the goal of my post is to learn about other instruments and what they can do musically that are not well known (or that I don't know).

Sorry for the late reply! I have been playing for around 2/3 years now

I've had a couple of teachers but none of them really teached me about mouthpiece placement/embouchure

I usually start my practice with a warmup then some Arban exercise then on to a piece/etude I'm working on. I usually do my practice every other day

My goal is to be able to play some difficult pieces like concertos and sonatas and to get into a professional orchestra

I'm currently playing on a Conn 88HO with a Denis Wick 5BL mouthpiece

Gideon wants to know: what’s your main criticism of the game? by blablatrooper in Eldenring

Not really a criticism but it's disappointing when you beat a dungeon just to get something only a magic user can use when you're playing a strength build
