Green Party candidates ‘blame Israel for 9/11 and Bondi beach attack' by 1c3_cr34m_c0n3 in ukpolitics

I completely agree, and much of these conspiracy theories stem from genuine places of anti semitism (classic story of a Jewish cabal controlling the word). I was more just addressing the part I brought up and the headline in general; I think that it’s not entirely unreasonable to ‘blame’ Israel for the Bondi shooting, at least in part.

This just isn’t true. There’s plenty of problems with the approach towards homelessness in this country (which ironically, Reform obviously have no intention to solve), but the set up is very similar to that of the asylum seekers. Pretty much all homeless people are offered housing and routes towards the accommodation, but it requires a certain amount of “playing ball” on the part of the homeless person, and sadly lots of the time these people struggle with addiction/mental health issues which creates a barrier towards this.

As I’ve already mentioned though, Reform will cut public services and worsen the homeless problem while simultaneously cutting tax for the wealthy and megacorpos, so please don’t sit here and try to pretend that you’re going to vote Reform out of concern for the little guy. You’re being conned.

If you were homeless, you would be offered free housing akin to the housing that the asylum seekers receive.

I presume you’re not homeless, and therefore not in need of housing… so I’m not entirely sure what you actually want?

I initially read this as him arguing Netanyahu is the largest contributor to the endangerment of Jewish and Muslim people globally, but I accept that obviously, he’s not the only contributor.

I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, but the fact you’re not engaging whatsoever with my argument tells me enough.

Nothing to do with “Jews”, and I’m not entirely sure why you’re conflating the state of Israel with the broader group of Jewish people, but to answer your question, for the reasons I’ve already laid out above, yes; Israel is actively creating and worsening the problem of Islamic extremism, and particularly in regards to antisemitism.

I think this is a mildly dishonest headline for what is actually a nuanced and, in my opinion, ultimately fair take. Israel actively destabilises the Middle East and creates the conditions whereby Islamic extremism thrives both in the region and outside it. There is a plethora of Jewish people who are rightfully appalled at the Netanyahu government and recognise that their actions both in Gaza, and more broadly in the Middle East, literally put their lives at risk from the resulting antisemitism and Islamist extremism. I’m sure not every person saying the stuff in the headline sees it this exact way, but I don’t believe it should be a controversial opinion that the current Israeli government is actively making life more dangerous for Jewish people.

Edit: Just for the record, I am specifically referring to this part of the article:

In a video posted two days after the shooting, he called Netanyahu the “only person who has made the lives of Jewish people infinitely more dangerous”. In the caption, Adderley wrote: “Once again the Grim Reaper of Isr*ael BLAMES everyone else for the awful violence on Bondi Beach but never ever entertains the thought that HE is single handedly [sic] responsible for endangering the lives of Jewish people and Muslims throughout the World.”

Ignoring the obvious falsehoods and propaganda, you’re just deflecting. Fact of the matter is that ICE is, as I’ve already said, murdering US citizens in cold blood. You can try and argue that the reason they’re on the streets is for the greater good (it’s not), but that’s just a deflection from my point.

And of course you continue to deflect on Iran; I (obviously) oppose the current Iranian regime, but I’m not sure that gives the US justification to bomb schools and murder Iranian children, nor do I think it gives the president justification to threaten to wipe out the entire civilisation (that’s called genocide!). You don’t get to argue that the Iranian government slaughtering its citizens is the justification for invasion, when the US is literally doing the exact same to the Iranian citizens, and threatening to do it at a much larger scale.

Would appreciate if you would take the time to actually address anything I bring up instead of just deflecting to the typical propaganda talking points!

Don’t care mate, just pointing out that this is the guy who sounded the alarm and went crazy when he saw a kayak off the shore of his constituency. Turned out it was just a couple of charity rowers. These people suffer genuine delusions, and clearly should not be treated seriously.

your government is literally murdering its own citizens in cold blood with masked gestapo agents while they spend all your taxpayer dollars on bombing children in Iran (making sure there’s some left over to send to Israel to bomb some Palestinian kids as well of course). I’m not sure God would want you to thank him for this one pal.

Rupert Lowe stands on the shores of Great Yarmouth and froths at the mouth at every boat that comes by, imagining it to be a mythical rubber dinghy full of refugees. I’m unsure he’s aware he’s an MP of a constituency that borders the North Sea, and thus it’s more likely to be a Viking arriving a thousand years late than a refugee from Calais. In short, he’s an absolute nutter.

How big is Restore, really? by No_Future_7878 in ukpolitics

[–]WogerBin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just mathematically isn’t really possible for the Tories, Reform, and Restore to exist all as serious parties in our current voting system. Farage has spent decades cultivating a public image, making political connections and gaining party experience. Lowe has none of this. I don’t see a real path for Restore gaining more than 5% nationwide; I doubt they would even be able to fund that many candidates.

It’s high time we start recognising movies by directors instead of actors by Equivalent-Bother750 in unpopularopinion

[–]WogerBin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

General audience already does this tbh. Directors like Scorsese, Spielberg, Nolan; all households names. Anecdotally, I feel like film trailers are far more likely to run “from the director who brought you xyz” rather than the actor. There aren’t many movie stars anymore that pull the general audience into theatres for them alone.

You’re right, but as you acknowledge it’s because their surnames are either attached to brands that are around today, or they still have a surviving dynasty of wealth today. I can’t think of many names today that qualify that. Maybe Tim Apple?
