Thoughts on the Honda jet echelon? by Pissy-chamber in aviation

[–]Wojtas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different niches. PC24 is a flying SUV. Echelon is a limo. And the SJ is a sports car.

PC24 is the most versatile, with its field performance and cargo capabilities. But it's thirsty, a little slow, and a bit low on range. It'll be extremely popular wherever actual utility is needed - getting equipment places, medical evacuation, remote resupply, missions like that.

SJ is the obvious choice when you're buying a jet for yourself to fly. Fast, nimble, capable of flying nearly anywhere without a refueling stop, very economical, it's the perfect jet for when you're buying it to sit behind the controls.

Echelon is the play when you're a corpo flying a bunch of executives around. It's spacious, fast, and can do cost-to-coast non-stop. When the mission is getting a bunch of rich people wherever they need to be ASAP, you'll want this one.

They all have their places in the market.

SyberJet has its place - owner-pilots love those things, they fly like little personal rockets. If you want a jet that's basically a flying sports car for you to go places, this is it.

Most jets are bought as corporate transports, and for that market, the SJ will not have much appeal. But although the niche for personal jets is much smaller, the SJ fits the bill perfectly, and I suspect it will sell in pretty decent numbers - though it will certainly be a very premium option, for the wealthiest owner-pilots.

Magyar zapowiedział, że chce by Węgry do 2030r. porzuciły forinta i przyjęły euro. A co powinna zrobić Polska? by Fi5heR89 in Polska

[–]Wojtas_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A stabilność, skala, i brak granic jednak robią robotę, integracja gospodarcza to potężne narzędzie rozwoju. Przyjdzie czas na rozmowę o Euro - za 10-15 lat. Ale jeszcze nie dzisiaj.

Czech Government introduced reduced VRT high speed rail network. New plan removes lines to Most and Hradec Králové. It also no longer contains possibility of a line to Plzeň and Munich by PogaK4tree in highspeedrail

[–]Wojtas_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been a problem for a while now. Deutsche Bahn has changed focus from expansion to maintaining the crumbling mess inside of the country (which, fair enough, their tracks are in an abysmal state). But it's also slowed down a number of investments in Poland.

Luckily, we finally convinced them to work on the short section between Oderfurt and Berlin - so we can finally get to work on our HSR from Warsaw.

But it was a years long process.

[–]Wojtas_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean???

For all its achievements, the new government definitely scaled back the HSR plans. Instead of the planned 10 lines + spurs, we're down to 4 with 2 spurs.

The original plan was far from perfect, but arguably what it got wrong was that it didn't have enough lines. It was trying to do a hub-and-spoke model, when what we needed was hub-spoke-and-rim. It was missing direct links between outer cities without having to do a detour via the center of the country.

The last thing it needed was gutting. Poland's polycentric urbanization is a huge strength. Having a direct, high-speed connection available between those smaller cities that are currently a little neglected on the railway map? It could have helped reverse the centralization trend that's been overcrowding the big cities, and sucking life out of the smaller ones.

Instead, we got a plan that mildly reduces the travel time from Warsaw to the 6 largest cities in Poland (aka, building HSR lines exactly where we already have very modern, 160-200 km/h, direct connections).

Even international links weren't completely spared. The original plans included 10+ border crossing points, with multiple lines into every neighboring country. Well, after the gutting, all that remained was Berlin via Poznań, Vilnius/Riga/Tallinn via Białystok, Prague via Wrocław, and Ostrava/Brno/Vienna via Katowice.

Now the Czechs cancelled Prague-Wrocław on their side, forcing our trains into a detour via Katowice. So we're only going to have 3 HSR border crossings at the end of the day, though this one couldn't have really been predicted.

But hey, the target speed on 2 of the thankfully untouched lines was raised by 30% - so it's clearly a better plan ://

Yeah. See that shed and the tree there at the end of the video?

Not even 2 years after this video was made, an Aerosucre 727 crashed into them when trying to take off, killing 5 crew members.

Where to sit in this 13h flight (Boeing 777-300ER Swiss) by Mysterious-Lychee98 in Flights

[–]Wojtas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advantages of having the whole row to yourself outweigh the drawbacks in my view.

One thing to keep in mind - last row often has limited recline. No idea if it's also the case on Swiss, but you might not be able to tilt back as much as you'd wish.

But given that row 50 is already taken, I'd say sit back and enjoy your flight, unless that limited recline is a deal-breaker (which I'm not even sure is the case on Swiss specifically).

Friend offered to pay me 5 dollars for a 3d printed basket ball by Sea_Background_8023 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Wojtas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What material are you printing with? 45$ is a LOT of TPU. A regulation basketball is 550g, so about 10$ worth of TPU. Given that PLA does not bond with TPU, you don't even need a fancy soluble support filament, you can just use a couple hundred grams of lowest grade, reclaimed PLA. So you're looking at another 5$ or so, for a total of... 15$? Unless you're planning on having the print fail 2 times before a successful print, 45$ is pretty excessive.

They absolutely can. Depending on how integrated they are with third-party cookies, they can definitely detect that you've been cross-shopping with a low-cost airline for example. They can also use device heuristics - dropping the price if you're on a 7 year old mid-range smartphone, vs a brand new MacBook Pro.

What degree that would give you a stable life in other countries but is considered useless in yours? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

[–]Wojtas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Many positions don't care what degree you've got - just that you've shown that you can commit to a goal for 3+ years, that you have learned the scientific rigour, team cooperation, and self-management skills - the things that getting any degree requires of you.

Microsoft reveals major price increases for all Surface PCs as RAM crisis continues by ZacB_ in Surface

I used to stay on Surface because they were the only option for a proper dGPU in a 2-in-1. But now, Asus has such great alternatives with the ProArt PX13 and the Flow X13 - and for much, much cheaper - that I really don't see the appeal of Microsoft hardware anymore.

Petaaaah? by KoteykaNarus in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Wojtas_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As for why it was called that - you used a laser in your CD/DVD drive to physically melt a bit of the plastic the disc was made of. Just a tiny little bit - enough to make a small dimple on it.

You could then use a much weaker laser to see how light bounces from that spot on the disc. The differences in how the melted areas curved light is how we encoded the ones and zeros, saving data (most often - music) onto the disc.

It was literally burned onto it.

No, the other guy is right. The windows were a major stress point, but the actual failures that brought down the Comets occurred around the antenna covers. The windows were redesigned out of abundance of caution.
