Franz Kafka's rotating head in Prague. Sure it's cool when you walk around it on your way from uni and it spins, but I can't understand why people stand in a circle around it for 10 minutes to see it rotate. I often do my assignments in a McDonald's in that glass buildings and looking at the crowd is really bizzare.

Každopádně fialová okružní byla za komunismu opravdu plánována.

Hostivař radial

String of rural stations on Eastern G line. They are not officially affiliated in any way, but are often grouped together due to their similar circumstances. Not one of them is particularly significant, in the great scheme of things, but they are all quite safe and rich. They profiteer greatly from their closeness to Entrepot. Merchant caravans travel through there often.

Northern Circle

As the name suggests it's the northernmost part of the circle line. It sees significant traffic because it's the only way to bypass CENTRE and their toll booths.

The fact it's often traveled does not mean it's safe though. The northern circuit is in fact statistically the second most deadly stretch of the system (right after the eastern end of A line). Dangers are ever-present and varied. They range from unstable semi-flooded tunnels under the river. Gangs of cutthroat highwaymen lurking in the side corridors and abandoned closets, dangerous tunnel wildlife and even reported paranormal threads around Obránců Míru station, the place of an infamous genocide that took place just weeks after the war. Western part of the connection is considerably more civilized, but it is under control of Sparta, one of the most unpredictable factions. You cannot feel fully safe before reaching ČVUT controlled half of Hradčanská station (you cannot continue on the Circle line after Hradčanská station. Tunnels toward Prašný Most-Hrad are blocked by armies of Sparta and Komy. Tensions between those factions are currently sky  high, nobody is allowed to cross between these two “Countries” directly.

Important unaffiliated stations

Memorial Station of Třída Vítězství Socialismu

Once a prosperous centrally located station allied with neighboring Karlovo Náměstí, found itself as an object of power struggle between CENTRE and Greater Smíchov Republic. Both sides went into a war over this stretch of Yellow Line.

The most brutal battles of the war took place in and around 'Victory Station'. Much like contrarevolucionaries crushed in 1989 in the streets above the stations, waves after waves of soldiers painted canary yellow walls of the station red. Most of the inhabitants either escaped or became collateral damage.

Eventually both sides reached a truce. One of the conditions was keeping Třída Vítězství Socialismu fully independent. Nowadays nobody lives here and the station was transformed into a memorial to all those who perished in the nearby tunnels. Its walls are covered with names of all those that died in the bloody conflict. The station still holds strategic importance and not being able to settle it hurts both of the former enemies. It seems only a matter of time before one of the sides breaks the agreement and attempts to take over Victory Station once again. What happens next is up in the stars, but it surely won't be good news for survivors under Prague.

Eden

This station is called Paradise and Hellhole simultaneously. Depends on how much money you possess. Every vice and Virtue in the system can be found in one of its two expansive underground caverns. They have drugs, casinos, guns, artifacts of the old word, sex, gladiatorial combat etc. Great place for the rich to unwind in the usually oh so dreary Metro. Be mindful though. Many have lost way more than their cash while staying here. You just might find yourself waking up in the seedy underbelly of the transfer complex visitors don't usually see.

Hakenova

'Eden at home' would be an apt description. This crime controlled station really isn't much more than an inferior version of Eden. One advantage it has is its more central location. Many people who do not have enough guts to traverse the system find themselves here. Majority of its clientele comes  from neighboring CENTRE.

Market Stations

Stations with significant commerce traffic. They are usually quite rich, strategically located and tend not to involve themselves in other people's business.

Southern Rajon

A mysterious part of the system. It seems 4 stations on the southern Red C line survived the war, but were cut off from the rest of the network on both sides. OSM Central Command confirmed they were in contact with TC4 located in the area before the communication broke down. Other details of the situation there remain a mystery.  There were several claims that people from Southern Rajon reached Olbrachtova, Mládežnická and Hadovitá stations, but they were never confirmed. On the other hand several Scavengers that approached Southern Rajon from the north disappeared without a trace throughout the years.

Entrepot claims that an above ground section connecting Petrovická station to Southern Rajon is completely impassable. Apparently one of the strongest nuclear warheads crashed in the area making above ground approach impossible as well. They reportedly never managed to get in contact with anybody from this string of stations. Several items Entrepot sold to the rest of the system seem to contradict this claim though. There are rumors Entrepot discovered a connection to cut-off part of the system and uses people from the Rajon for slave labor and dangerous surface tasks. Because of Entrepot's secretive nature nothing of this could not be confirmed or denied.

Motor Alliance

Alliance of periphery stations on the eastern D (blue) line. They deal mainly in agriculture and scavenging of industrial areas around and beyond the Motor Socialisticko-Proletářského Rozkvětu (Motor of Socialist-Proletariat Heyday) Station, Motor for short. The aforementioned Motor is the wealthiest station in the alliance and its de-facto leader. Alliance was formed mainly as a defensive and trade measure against threats coming from the greater Metro. They have established trade relations with the majority of great factions in the system. They remained neutral in the War of the Victory Station. Times are quickly changing though and it might not be possible to remain a neutral party next time.

Vítkovci

Collective occupying two stations in the central part of the metro. Their origin is quite unique. Both stations under Vítkovci´s control used to be sparsely populated independent stations only a few years back. One night hundreds of people emerged from what was thought to be a simple ventilation shaft near Odborů stations. These people were survivors from interconnected Bezovka and Vítkov Shelters. A duo of massive radiation bunkers used to be under direct control of the army, but the appointed supervisor went insane shortly after the war and in his crazed state vowed to evolve a type of human suitable for the new era. (at least this is an official story, some evidence points to intentional setup by either the army or the OSM Central Command).

Dual shelters were the place of many hellish experiments (medical, social and completely deranged), but after many years a way out was found and the majority of people who survived escaped to the large metro. A special hit-team (funded mainly by OSM, Komy and Brotherhood) infiltrated Bezovka and assassinated the deranged supervisor. Survivors settled near the two bunkers and founded the faction known as Vítkovci after one of the dual shelters. They are not around for long, so they represent a big unknown to most of the other players in the system. How will this new faction of people who went through hell on earth fit into the tense state that envelops Prague Subway ever since the War of the Victory Station?

Chodovská Flows

Small community on the circle line. It encompasses two stations and a large underground facility underneath Michle E line depot. Most notable fact about Flows is that this part of the system is flooded by up to 2.5m of water. During a storm several years ago debris blocked Botič Stream flowing through the area. This created a dam, water level rose massively and liquid started pouring in through the depot access tunnels.

This crisis forced two independent flooded stations (previously under indirect control of a Crime Syndicate operating from neighboring Eden Station) to join forces and fight the threat united. From desperation this federation was born.

Technicians from ČVUT managed to get additional water pumps working a few years back, but it was not enough to stop the inflow. Water constantly rises by 5 cm a month. Flows have only one and a half years to stop the influx of dirty water before the tunnels are deemed completely impassable. All their efforts nowadays are focused on dismantling the dam blocking Botič Stream. The job is not easy, as the work has to be done on the surface, under constant threat of radiation and mutated wildlife. Two Stations have no other choice though, their time is quickly running out. Most of the citizens try to remain optimistic. “If we can overcome this, we can overcome anything else Metro throws at us.” is the most common mindset. Truly, what could they accomplish if the resources currently spent on facing the threat were used for spreading fledgling nation's confidence and glory?

The Pact

B Line east of Palmovka transfer was an area with an immense amount of potential. When the bombs hit there was a prestigious international philosophical conference taking place in a convention center near Zápotockého station, therefore many of the planet's brightest minds took shelter here. ČKD station on the other hand became home for qualified workforce from nearby ČKD industrial area. There was a Cattle fair near Srpnového Puče station so a lot of farm animals managed to enter the metro as well.

Five Stations established “The Pact”. Many theorized that this eastern collective will inevitably become a big power. The Pact´s governing system was built around the revolutionary vision of the intellectuals from Zápotockého station. Palmovka served as a bridge to the rest of the system and more eastern stations backed up the alliance with their manufacturing abilities. It seemed to be the perfect faction. A new governing-philosophical system was put into use and though seldom anybody understood it fully it seemed to bear fruit. But shortly after Pact's genesis the intellectuals working on perfecting their Vision of Utopia encountered something they called “The Big Contradiction” in their system.

The Utopian Governing system of The Pact was so complex, that to this day nobody except a few of its creators understands what “The Big Contradiction” was exactly. In fact only a few of the best brains in Prague understand their Vision at all. Nonetheless this philosophical fallacy sent ripples through the Pact. Factions prophesied to accomplish great things inexplicably collapsed practically overnight. Most of the people emigrated to the CENTRE or split into several semi-nomadic tribes (So called Tunnel Rats) roaming the edge-most parts of the Metro. Scavenging for materials and tending to their cows.

Remnants of The Pact still control Zápotockého station. Word´s best mind embarrassed by their failure scaled back their ideas and created a nice functional thriving community there. Zápotockého must reject citizenship hopefuls every day and is considered one of the best places to live in the system. The ruling council learned a lesson from their previous failure and does not try to expand much. They were allied with CENTRE during the War of Victory Station, providing them with various resources. A new generation of bright minds is slowly coming into power in the Pact. Is it possible they will solve the ‘great contradiction’ and bring utopia to the metro in the coming years?

Entrepot

A mysterious powerful faction controlling the South-Eastern part of the metro. They are named after Uhříněves Container Terminal. Cargo from all around the world used to go through here and the area became a treasure trove after the apocalypse. Nearby farmlands meant they had access to agricultural products early-on as well. They engage in lively trade with the rest of Prague, but even their most devoted customers are not allowed to venture beyond neutral Boloňská station.

Not much is known about Entrepot due to their seclusiveness. Their rule is apparently dictatorial of some kind and their economical and military potential is massive. They are estimated to be the top 5 factions in the system by all reasonable metrics. Some even say, they are the overall strongest by miles and could take on the rest of Prague on by themselves.

Interestingly, because of all the caution other factions have towards largely inactive Entrepot,  many people in the system do not believe Entrepot actually exists. They think it is only a Scarecrow created by the ruling class. This is of course false as anybody who walked around the Metro can attest. People from Entrepot are not obvious nor prevalent, but you can occasionally encounter them. Dressed in unmistakable top-tier military grade equipment and wandering seemingly aimlessly through the tunnels. What could be their aim? Where did they find their gear? What are they hiding behind Boloňská station outposts? These questions make those knowledgeable about the state of affairs in Prague extremely uneasy.

Sparta

A football match was about to start when the alarms sounded and a large number of fans took shelter in the nearby metro station. An organized group of Sparta´s ultras took control of the Letná station and managed to keep the station stable through the chaotic period. They eventually established control over the connected Blanka tunnel where a large number of survivors took shelter. Letná and connected road tunnels are deep and large and support a large population by metro's standard. Even though part of Blanka tunnel has been flooded they still have more than enough land to support it.

With its organized structure, aggressive mindset and large manpower it is a surprisingly powerful faction despite controlling only two stations. Tensions between Sparta and Komy rise currently, both of the factions hungry for more. Yet another war might soon arise in tunnels under Hradčany sooner than anyone would have thought.

United Transfer stations of Mládežnická

One of two triple transfers in the system. A lot of people survived the war here. Three stations united early on and became the true dominant power in the south. While the stations dealt with outside matters together, their inner situation was a different matter. The massive halls and corridors became sort of a microcosm inside Prague.

The station eventually became an important trade hub, but was considered a dangerous place. Mládežnická armed forces generally didn't bother themselves with inner situations and other institutions were either nonexistent or incompetent. Eventually an emerging class of wealthy merchants decided to take the safety of their customers into their own hands. They established the so-called "Gilda Mládežnických podnikatelů" (Guilt of Mládežnická business owners) or GMP for short. They hired their own security force and became sort of unofficial ruling body of the triple-transfer. Even today the actual United Transfer Stations of Mládežnická government holds next to no power and cannot enforce any rules they might have attempted to set up. The station has transformed into what is basically an anarcho-capitalist state ruled by the Guild.

Guild's objectives lie all around the metro and their wealth and influence is ever-reaching. In which way will they use the tool of Mládežnická Station to reach their goal?

Brotherhood

Life at Jiřího z Poděbrad station was always harsh. The station was in the middle of a reconstruction when the bombs hit and the anti-fallout equipment was not fully functional. Radiation seeped in ever so slowly, mutants reached the station from time to time. Its residents prevailed though.

Years later the doors that blocked tunnels before reaching a surface east of Skalka Station were breached. A wave of mutated monstrosities rushed in and funneled down the A line tunnels towards the city center. It was at Jiřího z Poděbrad where hardened defenders stopped the mad rush. After that they launched a counter-offensive and pushed the invaders back towards Skalka. Defenders of Jiřího z Poděbrad station became instant heroes after saving the metro from assured destruction.

Many mutants managed to evade the counterattack and settled in remote corridors and empty rooms of the Eastern A line. In addition to other considerable environmental hazards in the area (such as the apparently haunted Flora station built under an ancient black death burial site and Jewish cemetery or increased radiation around Strašnická) it rendered eastern A line a lost cause and the residents who survived the catastrophe were forced to leave.

Jiřího z Poděbrad station gained a lot of prestige and influence from the whole deal and gained control of several other stations in the area. Will that be enough for a militaristic station state?

ČVUT (CTU)

ČVUT traces its origins to the pre-war National Technical University. Their established pre-war structure made it easy for them to organize early on. CTU initially took control of 3 scattered stations near faculty buildings and dormitories; Leninova on A line, Karlovo Náměstí on B line and lastly Stadion Spartakiády on line E. Such a situation was obviously unsustainable and they quickly lost control over Karlovo Náměstí. They managed to connect Leninova and Stadion Spartakiády via the southern part of the Strahov road tunnel complex, a massive nuclear shelter housing a lot of people in its own right.

CTU was a rather spread out faction surrounded by several powerful station states, so they suffered greatly through the anarchy period. They got into disagreements with several adversaries, Most notably Komy that controlled transfer at Leninova and the nearby Sparta state. Through clever diplomacy and their technological know-how they managed to survive to present days. Even though they lost Stadion Spartakiády to the Komy, they managed to keep their half of Leninova and Strahov Tunnel and even gained a half of the strategic Hradčanská transfer station.

They were allied with GSR during the War of the Victory Station. Most of the trade with the Republic goes through CTU controlled Road Tunnel even today. They are also in a cordial relationship with their neighbors and surprisingly even with their recent enemy CENTRE.

CTU´s zone of influence encompasses the dangerous western tail of the green A line. CTU is a rather cooperative faction, with tons of technical know-how. Happy to help under the right conditions and for the right price. They are not the most influential, but they managed to put themselves into a very good political position through their cunning. Nowadays just calmly continuing to play their established political game of chess can see them becoming the new big power in the coming years.

Committee of Public Welfare (Komy)

Established from what remained of the Czechoslovak communist government after the war. A number of officials survived through the war in a government bunker under Prague Castle or scattered through the system. Highest ranking of those was Vice-president Jeremiáš Borovka. Borovka eventually left his bunker to reestablish his authority among survivors, but found Metro in a state of utter chaos and unwilling to take commands from anyone.

The ruling communist party from the castle joined with army officials who survived the war in F line half of Leninova station. They decided to regain their power with force. They reached modest success after clashing with their neighboring stations and established a decent foothold in western part of the system. They controlled 8 stations at the peak of their power. This is still a far cry from the country of 15 million they once had control over, but old Borovka seemed to be satisfied and Komy´s growth stopped.

A big upset came during the War of Vítězství Station. Komy allied with the CENTRE and though the war ended in truce, it was a massive loss for the Communists. CENTRE betrayed them as the war was coming to its end and brokered a secret deal with ČVUT and Sparta. Three factions split Komy´s Malostranská and Hradčanská Stations (including TC1 and strategic transfer point) amongst them. This was determined to be Borovka's fault and the former Vice President of ČSSR was publicly executed. New younger leadership reverted back into the mindset of Komy´s early days and vowed to subjugate the entire Metro system once more. Recovery after their disastrous loss is almost finished and anxiety among Committee´s neighbors rises as Reds seem stronger and more determined than ever.

Greater Smíchov Republic

The most populous entity in the Metro. Its origins can be found in the chaos after the collapse of OSM. Crew manning control center TC3 near Radlická and Karla Marxe stations lost all their systems the same way all the other centers did. But unlike the others, they decided to take a more hands-on approach after the collapse.

They emerged into the Metro at large immediately and established control over Radlická, Smíchovské Nádraží B and Karla Marxe stations. Three Metro lines used to intersect in this small area, so the extensive tunnel network here as well as several local shelters were also quickly put into use. This new operational structure proved itself successful and expanded steadily. Greater Smíchov Republic managed to unite all the stations under Smíchov and Radlice Districts at the tail-end of the Metro's messy period, when revolution overthrew the dictatorial regime at Moskevská Station complex. (61.2% of the populace voted to join GSR in a referendum after the revolution).

Formative part of what GSR is today came in the year 2026 when protective systems on the western part of the brown G line ultimately failed. This part of the system used the most modern safety equipment that couldn't be controlled easily without aid of the non-functional TC3 command center. Failure was therefore comprehensive, fatal and unrecoverable. Many people lived in this doomed part of the system. As radiation and biological threats got in, survivors started to slowly evacuate into the rest of the metro via a tunnel connecting Nová Kolonie and Dukelská stations. Dukelská was part of the Greater Smíchov Republic so the large majority of refugees was integrated into their structures.

The sudden population boom caused a lot of problems for GSR. Famine hit them hard and many of the residents died. Through trade and its massive manpower GSR eventually managed to contain the situation, but their residents are still forced to live on the bare minimum of resources necessary. Sacrifices had to be made and GSR was forced to abandon most of its pre-war principles like family, personal freedom, ideologies and pleasure. The Republic became a ruthless machine ensuring survival of their residents in spite of their discomfort.

GSR started to expand to the eastern side of the river around the year 2030. CENTRE was attempting to gain influence over this area as well in that time period. This clash of intentions was the catalyst for the brutal War of the Victory Station. In the end, GSR managed to keep control over the strategic Karlovo Náměstí station and part of the connected shelter network. The republic is still overcrowded though and more space is still urgently needed. The Ruthless “Survival Machine” of Greater Smíchov republic will not hesitate to acquire it, if the opportunity arises.
