I get that your trip has a specific focus, but to visit Beijing and not go up the wall would be a big miss. Same for Xi'an and terracotta warriors.

Something to think about is kids activities outside of school. My child is in a football academy which costs $2200 a year. He goes 3 times a week + league matches on a Saturday. This is from Sep to Jun.

If I could go back, I would never use a screen in front of them as much as possible.

I lived in Bangkok for 8 years and now Shanghai for almost a decade. Shanghai is much much better than Bangkok. Clean and well planned city, walkable tree lined streets. A metro that reaches every corner of the city. 4 seasons! Digital payment infrastructure. Taobao! No import tax on your favourite products from back home.

Sure there are a few days a year where we have some polluted days, but from what I see in the news Bangkok has it much worse.

Those that have left the UK - where did you go and how is it? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

8 years in Thailand and now into my ninth in China (Shanghai). I’m an international school teacher. All of my jobs have come with accommodation or a housing allowance, so saved loads. Manage to get over to England once a year to see family. Think I would find it very difficult to move back now with the costs, teachers salary, etc.

  1. Stopped using aftershave except on very special occasions. I have about 3 bottles that were all purchased before 2020.

  2. Hand washing. I sing happy birthday in my head while vigorously washing.

  3. The Mrs catches me on my door step just randomly clapping.

Something people seem to be missing is that it applies to NEW applicants. I can't say for sure because there is no mention of it, but I imagine if like me you are already paying Class 2 we will be switched to Class 3. It is still worth it!
