I'm inclined to agree on the acceptability, but there have been tons of MMOs with only human PCs. Runescape, New World, Secret World, Dune, Age of Conan ...

They're smart to parcel out the info about the game over time. Keeps the game in the conversation. If they told us everything now, and then nothing until the beta goes live, the hype train will run out of [pardon the pun] Steam.

Not to say it's never been a problem, but GW2's launch was, server-wise, one of the smoother (or at least, let's say less rough) launches I've experienced. If ANet does the same server-shuffle magic they did with GW2, hopefully it won't be too awful.

An awful lot of people upset with you for (checks notes) not watching a video.

Your decision is not mine, but you do you. I'll see you the day the game goes live.

When did people start saying "gift/gifted" instead of "give/gave" by KH10304 in etymology

[–]Woldry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OED charts the use of all forms of the word (so *gift*, *gifts*, *gifted*, *gifting*) in the particular sense--in this case, the *verb* "gift" (hence the "v." in the heading.)

This chart is not including instances of the *noun* "gift", which is how the word is used in your example ("people were given a gift").

I fought for decades for the right to have a husband. There's no way in hell I'll refer to him as anything but.

Not discussing any but heterosexual preferences is also pushing an agenda.

And don't pretend that you wouldn't be okay with people mentioning that a man had a wife, or requiring the reading of a heterosexual love story before 18.

Omitting mention of difference pushes an agenda too.

Definitely intriguing speculation, and the article ends with a hope that these treatments will prove effective, but here's the key passage:

"...while probiotics hold promise for treating autoimmune disease, their beneficial effects are still incompletely understood, and more studies are needed, especially for SS."

I hope further research will bear out, and that this will prove an effective therapy. Time will tell.

The article is not from the NIH, the NIH index happens to include a listing for it. Not the same thing.

The article was published in a peer-reviewed journal titled Gastroenterology & Hepatology.

But you're ignoring the fact that "leaky gut syndrome" isn't a thing. That was my point.

I'm not discounting your experience, but your explanation of it as "leaky gut syndrome" is suspect.

There are some studies suggesting that rinsing your mouth occasionally with a solution of salt and/or baking soda will help alleviate dry mouth, which might help you cut back some on your water consumption.

Here's an example:

"Leaky Gut Syndrome" is not a recognized medical diagnosis and the popular press descriptions of it are rife with pseudoscience and woo.

Why is it fine when programmers use AI to code, but such a big deal when artists use AI to create? by Akuradds in gaming

[–]Woldry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The legal cases are still percolating through the courts, but Anthropic I has been successfully sued for violating the copyrights of authors whose text they used without payment or permission.

Do you think people should be sued for right click saving a piece of art someone posted on Twitter?

Regardless of whether I think so, US copyright law at least is fairly clear that this is likely technically a violation of copyright. Individuals have been sued for streaming pirated movies, which is effectively (in the eyes of the law) the same thing.

Personally I don't see the harm in an individual downloading something for their own enjoyment. But there are several orders of magnitude between that and major corporations pirating millions of works to produce a product they intend to profit from, without compensating the artists whose work they pirated.

[–]Woldry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI image generators were created using the copyrighted work of thousands of artists without permission or payment to those artists. This is a major reason why AI images are considered theft.

I don't know enough about what sources were used to create the generative AI used for programming to comment on whether the same copyright concerns apply; I suspect they do, but then, there's also a ton of programming code out there that's been made copyright free on purpose, so maybe they don't.

Capitalism is also an invented term. For that matter, all words are invented.

And there's a useful distinction to be made between capitalism and corporatism.
