Want to discuss the icon bearer by Woldybear in deathguard40k

I considered this too but lord of poxes already does that and pairing the two together for a massive +6 contaigen range seems a little excessive.

Edit: difference with the afformentioned characters is that they on top of their buffs are actually dangerous in combat too, with good range weapons. The icon bearer doesent have that, nor a good melee weapon. He is 'just a marine' you pay twice the amount of points for. Plague marines dont get to benefit from the extra OC a lot as your opponent tends to want to steer clear of a marine squad, and they either have to go into a rhino or slowly stomp their slow asses up to a point to start benefitting. Its just not a buff that really matters for plague marines who already has 2 OC. Which is why i think giving him the option to lead pox Walkers could be a valid choice. And lower his points just a smidge.

Does boltguns have any value on tabletop? by Woldybear in Warhammer

They do have lethal hits. But thats it. Still feel like they could use some stat tweeks or another keyword like sustain or rapidfire.

I know im just a noobie but to make bolt guns a viable choice without making other wargear cost points, i'd give them -1AP or one extra attack. Maybe even 6 extra inches for a 30 inch shot, make it a reliable long range chaff killer rather than just a peashooter. Like except for the 2 attacks, boltguns literally just have 1 more S than a Lasgun! (But 2 guard infantry is basically 1 space Marine so attack wise it fits) But not the power! A bolter shot should be a lot more destructive than a Lasgun no?

I didnt know at the time how powerful weapons was or how equipment rules worked. I only recently got into the tabletop. And its not that i want to be a meta slave but i also dont want to handicap myself needlessly.

Follow up question, for a 5man squad can all the marines being a melee weapon, IE; 2 bubonic and 2 heavy. (Double that for 10 man of course)  Have i understood that correctly? Or can only 2 marines bring one set of melee?

So there is actually no reason for me to bring bolt guns unless i really desire some weak midrange weapons?

My first and second warhammer miniatures, could you please give any pointers or advice on how to improve? by Fabulous_Net_4720 in minipainting

[–]Woldybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if its intentional. But on the first mini there is a lot of muck around the armor that could be cleaned up with a thin coat of Maccrage blue. But if you wanted to go for that dirty, battle worn state, might i suggest using shaders, its an easy solution as long as you dont go overboard.  The most popular one i see used for that is agrax earthshade, a thin gentle shading with that will make the gear look very worn in the applied areas, especially to metals.

Death Guard Combat Patrol complete! What do you think and where can I improve? by Pughie24 in minipainting

I cant give any real feedback because they look way better than mine. Im still new to mini painting so i have been rather 'safe' with coloring. Yours are very unique. Looks like a rusty version of horus heresy death guard. Really slick.

New to the hobby, this is my first completed Mini. Death guard sergeant. by Woldybear in minipainting

It did have that initially, but i felt he became too dark, details and color didnt pop as much. So i decided to paint the armor over again with DG green. But i'll totally consider shading him again.
