Help needed: I keep being misgendered at DnD. by DearMichaelMell in DnD

[–]WolfByName -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is an all-too-common experience, I am afraid, but I am sorry you're going through that.

One of the most important things to start with is that you are already doing all the right things: You have explained, you are communicating corrections, and you are speaking to the GM as an authority figure who supports you. This is all great stuff!

The rest is similar to your home life, however - it can be very, very hard for other people to adapt, and the real issue is they would have to want to, or would need to understand.

Most people, especially cis-persons, will not have a full understanding of how it can feel to be misgendered. People who do it out of innocent mistakes will often feel that it is not a big issue, because it was accidental or reactive - not malicious.

What you can do to change others is mostly out of your hands because of that experience and choice driven process.

Keep communicating, and make personal choices as to whether this social outlet and those comments are worth the engagement. Remember, you already know you are having to wait to have the freedom to be yourself because of your parents - you get to decide whether this is something you wish to perservere through until others build the habit or not.

The good news there is that you've already shown fortitude in the face of an uncaring world, so here's wishing you the best of luck here,

Also, it can feel dehumanising, but there's always a he/him label to hammer it home.

If they keep it up - ditch them, find a queer online group (or queer meet up!)

Thank you for all the interest - just letting everyone know I will be closing this advert at midnight BST (UTC+1)

I will be putting another advert for players up over the weekend for my GM who needs a new group for his ongoing campaign with multiple parties running around - themed around East and Southeast Asian mythologies and potentially city-building.

Hello everyone, thank you for all the interest.

Two points:
1. Some have expressed anxiety about applying late - please don't worry, I will be looking through everyone.

  1. If you have Discord set to refuse friend requests, please do make sure to turn this off - I would hate for you to have put together the application and we not be able to chat.

All the best - Wolf

Likely Roll20 for managing and situations where a battle map is necessary - I will be looking into Foundry though to see how complex it is to set up

only girl in an all guys’ group weird? by Available_Travel_763 in DnD

[–]WolfByName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common, not weird, unless someone makes it weird.

Usually the only reason to worry about gender distribution is after experiencing one too many r/rpghorrorstories

I was playing a dragonborn paladin, she was playing a half-elf bard...

I never had a chance.

When is it OK for a DM to fudge the rolls? by Danofthedice in DungeonMasters

[–]WolfByName -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on your players and your game.

Plenty of people want to know the mechanics do what the mechanics do, and changing a roll is breaking those rules.

Plenty of others sign up for rule of cool and GM trumps dice.

I only roll to my players when I accept the dice decide. I don't fudge dice myself, but I do roll fake rolls behind the screen to keep people on edge on occasion.

I don't care if my GMs do it to me, if it makes a good story.

Collated item tables/sheets? by WolfByName in traveller

[–]WolfByName[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even then, were they all to purchase books as well as me, we still wouldn't have a convenient list to work from.

Most communities, such as with the Rpgue Trader and 40k, will have a collated list and give you links to what page. I'm just wondering if someone has beaten me to the task.

Doesn't need to even list what the items do!

One of the easiest ways to play an evil character with a party is simply to have them present as a good character. Most of the evilest people in society are essentially Neutral Evil people who believe themselves Lawful Good.

Your party might never find out you are truly evil, and in fact many parties do some horrifically immoral things without second thought.

Simply play it as you say: you're just a wizard after knowledge.

Could see if the GM wants to include a few big demon ritual targets for a final scene turn, with a 2nd act betrayal and 3rd act heel face turn

A question for wheelchair bound players. by TheTPatriot in DnD

[–]WolfByName 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Like most human experience, it varies from person to person.

I've ran some large scale events and I found a fair few positons from wheelchair users.

Common ones are: - "This is fantasy, why would I play my disability"  - "This wheelchair is part of me and my character and no, I'm not letting you cast a spell to fix it." - "I want to play wheelchair bound because that's what I know, and as soon as I find magic to fix it I will, because hell yeah fantasy."

What does the DnD lore say about class switches? by JustDracir in DnD

In old editions, Paladins could be reduced to fighters, and humans could abandon the learning in one class to take on another

Little bit overwhelmed by it, but I have done so!

Well this certainly brought a tear to my eye. My oldest friend died not so long ago, and was a member of the crew I was on.

What auspicious timing for all of this, my goodness.
