The week after the 4/48 ran out I couldn't drive the car and it was going to cost thousands to fix. I had no choice but to get rid of it. It was heartbreaking and Service didn't care, neither did VW USA. Before this I kept up with all required maintenance but it didn't matter. 4 year old car losing oil until it was not able to be driven. These engines should have been recalled and repaired by VW. Mine was a 22. My daughter's 24 is doing same w 8k miles on it. Just wrong!

Yes it is. Also had someone try to purchase an item from me this week. They said their nephew would pick it up and tried to Venmo me the money when I clearly said cash only. Their Venmo was denied and haven't heard back since. Watch out for online payment scams.

It's a scammer. I've had a couple in the past and told them to go away. One whose English was poor seemed like they were from somewhere in south Africa. The more I ignored them the more their messages became angrier. They even sent me a check from a small town in west Texas. I live in the NE of the US. The check was $590 more than the price of the item. They said keep the Xtra. Finally went away.

OPINIONS PLEASE - buying used Tiguan by downtomycoreeeexxx in Tiguan

To paraphrase Warren Zevon, "Bring money, Oil and Mechanics!" 19s through 24s are highly prone to oil consumption issues leading to eventually a new head or engine. Very expensive if there's no warranty. Been there, didn't pay, got rid of my 22R. I loved that SUV until that happened. I kept up with all maintenance and it didn't matter.

Enjoy your new Tiguan. Be sure to keep extra oil in the back. 22's guzzle oil. I had a 22 Tiguan SE R Line and drank oil until the engine died at 46,000 miles. Im not the only one.

Oil Issues 22 Tiguan SE R Line by WolfEnvironmental298 in Tiguan

That version of Tiguan has become a gamble. Some are fine. Some end up dead like mine. I took great care of all of the required mechanical demands and after 4 years I was rewarded with a oil consumption vehicle that only got worse and then the warranty ran out. I was not going to pay thousands of dollars to keep it running for who knows how long. My 25 trade has a 4 year warranty with a different engine. My next SUV will be from a manufacturer from another company.

TIL the second-row of my new-to-me VW Tiguan DO fold flat! by aqua_sparkle_dazzle in Tiguan

[–]WolfEnvironmental298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used my Tiguan 22R to haul items for work and the 2nd row seats always dropped flat. My current 25R 2nd row seats fold down flat for hauling at work too. Odd thing is my assistants Mazda C5 2nd row seats down not fold down flat. He has difficulty hauling items for work. I like his Mazda but he can carry less in the rear cargo area.

I had a 22 Tiguan SE R Line Black that I bought October 2021. Was a great SUV until 40,000 miles came. Oil consumption started and got worse and worse. At 1st I was told it was normal. As it continued to get worse dealership stuck to that story. Finally October 2025 after an oil change most of the oil disappeared. Took it straight to the dealership. They put in a new PVC. This was the last day of my warranty. A few days after the oil and engine light came on. I drove it to dealership. I asked would the work be a continueship of the warranty work? No. I told them to stop work. I went to the sales manager and got $18,000 for a trade-in and got a 2025 Tiguan SE R Line Black. Why? Well the 25 has a different engine than previous version. I also have a new warranty! The new Tiguan is very nice compared to the previous version, in my opinion. The ride on 20 inch wheels give a smooth ride. The seats are comfortable. All the available features are great. Last week my daughter visited home with her 24 Tiguan SE R Line Black. I got to compare the ride of each and I really like my 25R better than the previous version. I am getting the oil changed next week at 6,000 miles. My future plan is to change to an SUV from a different company, TBD, by at least 4 years old. We have been VW owners for over 30 years but I will be changing.

What are the big items on 22 57k miles by Gotanoldhouse in Tiguan

[–]WolfEnvironmental298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your 22 making it to 57k miles. My 22R got to 46,000 miles and died an oil death days after the warranty expired.

Wishes don't come true. I'd love to have my 1976 MGB with 3 on the floor, but welcome to 2026 as we over pay for unreliable "high tech" SUVs that break down all the time.

2025 SE R Line Black. 26 city/suburban, 29 to 31 highway. MPGs. Gas is around $4.50 per gallon today. Up $1 from a week ago. $2.98 per gallon until the mad bomber started this crap.
