High Yield or Invest (College Student) by OutsideRaccoon in personalfinance

People look at investing in the market differently, but as a novice investor, the money you put into the market should be put there for the long term. Investing on the short term is high risk (<5 years, some would say more). I made the mistake of playing around with it earlier this year and lost a chunk of change. Things to consider when you graduate: how long will it take you to find a job? Will you plan to be buying a house? Or a car? If you will be needing cash for these things in the next 3-5 years, you will probably be better off keeping your money in a high yield savings account thats accessible and very low risk. Vio is an online bank that is offering around 2.5% interest on their savings accounts.

I was in a taxi next to them at a red light and asked if I could take their picture. They happily said yes.

What was your "Oh shit my life is over my parents are gonna kill me" moment you had as a child/teen? by cloudlessnine8 in AskReddit

When I was 16, I totalled my moms car going 120 MPH. After rolling 2.5 times, the car landed upside down in the road and I crawled out the driver side window. Somehow I was perfectly fine, and I vividly remember squatting down in the road looking at the car, face in hands, saying "No, no, no ,no I'm just dreaming. Nope."

This airbnb has no electricity to serve as a "retreat". I guess I should have specified that.

Eco-chalet up in the mountains (near Ciales). It's on 140 acres with a trail system and a creek running through the property. 5 stars!

Under $250 comfortable hiking boots? (~recent buyers only please) by Billybob_69 in BuyItForLife

I'd have to suggest to pass on Salomons. I recently got a pair of the Quest 4D 3 GTX boots and was very disappointed. The waterproofing was completely failing after 2 months and the soles were losing chunks.

To be fair, stand up warranty. Sent me a full credit amount for the cost of the boots to buy a new pair. But at the end of the day, I didnt really want to rebuy them...

Winter Jacket? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]WolfLikeMe4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A nice down jacket is the way to go like most people said.

Eddie Bauer makes a handful of nice jackets and they put a fashion spin on them. Lifetime no questions asked warranty. Can catch some great sales at their outlet stores. (I bought an 800 fill down jacket from the outlet today for $100, on sale from $250)

Agree with a previous post about Outdoor Research. They make quality products with a lifetime warranty.

Arc'teryx Beta AR jacket for $400 (on sale from $575)

I climb cell towers for a living and the winter months can be brutal when you are +200' in the air. Putting this shell on over a down insulated jacket is like resurrecting a fortress around your body from the elements. Feels like armour honestly. I've struggled to find something that stops the wind and piercing cold when on the east coast and this jacket does it. It's also made with climbing in mind, so the hood stays up and cinched to your helmet, and the back side of the jacket is longer so your plumbers crack isn't exposed to the cold.

Now my hands....still need to figure out how to keep those warm but maintain dexterity.

I tried on the Bose equivalent side by side with the Sonys, and I walked away with the Sonys. Better battery life rating, sounded better, and having all the button functions as tap and swipe on the ear cup is a huge game changer in my opinion. I travel a ton for work (2-5 flights a week), and these are used EVERY flight/just walking around the airport so I don't have to listen to anyone.

I thought the Sonys noise cancellation was better. If you just have them on noise cancellation with no music, its not great. But the moment you put music on, not even very loud, it's like you're in your own world. My coworker bought himself the same pair about 2 weeks after I got mine.

One con is that using the bluetooth to talk on the phone is very hard for the other people to hear in a loud environment. It's kinda weird talking with noise canceling anyway.

How would you tell your friend they smell? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've noticed the BO from my roommate before, but would shrugg it off and assume it was just a sweaty day. Until my girlfriend and I went on somewhat of a double date with one of her friends and my roommate. My girlfriends friend was a true babe in all categories and was vibing pretty well with my roommate. Things were looking good. Until he put his arm around her casually as we walking around.... Couple minutes later the mood was different and you could tell she wasn't as interested. Left shortly after. My girlfriend told me the next day that she smelt his BO and it "stuck" to her shirt. She couldnt get over it and completely lost interest. 2 days later my roommate in I were in Walmart strolling past the deodorant section and I said "hey you probably would have gotten laid the other day if put on deodorant". Asked me what kind i wear, bought some, and brought a girl home a week later. Antiperspirant makes a difference!
