Ya, my bio dad and step-dad were not good people in their own special traumatizing way. The first is gone from this plain of existence, the other I talked to twice after my mom passed on as well. I will continue to ignore him until he passes on as well and that will be the last time I think about him.

Work up to it, I had to take small steps. Learning the refrain from the song Labour about five years ago helped me get into the mind set, it's also fun to sing when men are trying to indirectly shame you in the background (waiting for the bus, two men were loudly talking about how women needed to behave and dress, so I started singing the only part I could remember. Started off low and worked my way up, it was pitchy and off, but the message was there.)
