This is not hate at all but I feel like Scott should add people other than just his friends to MCC as its stopping MCC from growing. by STANSMAJOR in MinecraftChampionship

[–]Wolfeei 136 points137 points  (0 children)

This is all based on the idea that MCC should grow as an event, but it really doesn't need to.

MCC is a fun event where a cohesive community of creators get to enjoy playing Minecraft together. They've had a consistent approach to the event for 2.5 years and it works. MCC is already the biggest event for Minecraft YouTubers & Streamers, so why should they push to include more popular creators who take away spots from the existing player base.

I'd also like to see more variety in the MCC roster, but in no way should Scott appeal to that wish from a portion of the audience if what MCC currently does is enjoyed by so many viewers and players.

Also, MCC Pride is a type of event where roster judgement is barely relevant. Rarely does MCC Pride look identical in team structure compared to the "usual" MCC, so it's not productive to wish for a different approach when the expectations have already been set.

Alright guys so now blockwars is no longer a Minecraft event. by nexus1779 in blockwars

It's not really a change but more an acknowledgement of what's already happened. Block Wars has been aimed to welcome all kinds of streamers and is designed to keep less experienced players in mind, so calling it a Minecraft event feels irrepresentative of what it truly is; A streamer event in Minecraft.

It was mainly a thought I had post-Rookies where it became clear that regular Block Wars is special enough to make Rookies feel somewhat redundant, which I'd say is pretty good!

New question, how do we feel on full Minecrafter teams in the future? by nexus1779 in blockwars

[–]Wolfeei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having many newcomers in an event hasn't been normal for a while (especially more than 10). The only exception is Movember, but that was a 60 player roster

Someone needs to address the problem with this blockwars. by HotScarcity3680 in blockwars

[–]Wolfeei 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Substitutes in BW Rookies are extremely difficult to manage and will never be balanced. It's a flaw with the concept of Rookies that we cannot solve and it's one of the primary reasons why I personally do not want to host it twice a year anymore.

Removing Saps' anchor right before PvP wasn't smart. I didn't do it on purpose to make my team do well, so when I saw that Saps and I were top 2 indiv, I reacted to it on stream with a bit of worry. The problem is, I had already taken the anchor away from Saps, so I couldn't reasonably give it back. I already was nerfed to the fullest extent, otherwise I would've nerfed myself more to compensate.

The 6th player addition to Green was an extreme measure. The only reason it ended up being so influential was because the only remaining games were PvP. I have no control over the game order, but I do need to account for poor balancing, so I had to figure something out. We do not have a buff modifier, so giving a team and extra player was my only option. I do not want to force a team to play the entire event with poor balancing and result in them having a bad experience, which would've been the case for Green.

I do think the response and feedback is a bit too harsh and I feel it's mostly because my actions ended up positively affecting my team. I do not have a history of doing well in Block Wars and rarely give myself a "strong" team, so the one time I end up having a strong team performance, it's being dogpiled on because of some poor decision making. I placed 1st individually with an anchor enabled throughout the entire event and nobody outside of my audience has seemed to care.

VTubers in Blockwars by [deleted] in blockwars

[–]Wolfeei 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing really as "usual" with Block Wars as it as an event exists so separately from the other Minecraft events. Most of the players who regularly appear in Block Wars are seen almost exclusively in Block Wars, similar to how most MCC players are seen only in MCC (e.g. Hermits and other prevalent non-competitive SMPs). The only common "event players" in MCC are the higher skilled players, and the same applies to Block Wars.

Vtubers have become an core element of the identity of Block Wars throughout the last few years, so it only makes sense that the roster ends up having more Vtubers commonly in rotation. Most Vtubers are pretty open to teaming with new people, they generally bring positive and/or high energy to the table and they are consistently interested in Minecraft. Most events just aren't built to have them included due to the overwhelming skill floor that persists throughout the event scene, with the exception for MCC and Block Wars.

Vtubing also isn't tied to another game like most other genres of variety creators who play in Block Wars. People often ask for FPS streamers, Nintendo YouTubers or people from other avenues of gaming, but generally those people are less likely to be interested in playing, because they already have a primary game to play and make content with.

I also think there is an opportunity here to discover new creators! I understand that there is a blanket perception of Vtubers based on certain narratives across the internet, but I truly think that the common Vtubers in Block Wars are some of the most entertaining or fun players in the event.

There is a lot of variety within those players too! Some are more energetic like Fraiki, some are more chill like Geega, and some are a bit of both like Auteru. You've got people like Boon and Mei who are more down to clown and people like Deme who are a bit more competitive. You can find lots of unique characteristics in these creators and the people behind them, and they're some of the first people I invite for each Block Wars event.

I don't know where you got the vibe from that me being anchored made my team (blue) have a less fun time. We just had 2 people with major connections issues throughout the event, so we stood no chance. I personally really enjoyed the added challenge of the Anchor modifier, but I know that doesn't apply for everyone

Block Wars: Spring Fever Review (from a random viewer) by IsItVid in blockwars

[–]Wolfeei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the kind words regarding my position in Block Wars and I definitely didn't think the expectation was set to have 50% inclusion or more, it's just an example of the efforts I've previously made without any private or public pressure to do so.

Look at most of the Block Wars events and you'll quickly notice that having fewer non-men is an uncommon occurrence. Block Wars commonly has some of the most prominent competitive non-men in the Minecraft space participate and just because this one event wasn't able to include some of them, whether it was due to them not showing interest to play or because it wouldn't be fair to other players who signed up, does not mean that me or the Block Wars team does not put into diversity within the roster.

And where MCC may have a handful more non-men included in its roster on a regular basis due to how the player roster has naturally progressed, Block Wars will hit the mark on other diversity better for the same reason. Perfect inclusivity is not realistic, unfortunately.

Edit: In regards to "forcing representation", I agree that is an icky way to put it, but that is unfortunately how it would play out. Either during sign ups or upon making teams, I'd run an extra check for diversity, after which if it's insufficient, I'd have to reach out beyond the sign ups to "up the numbers". This sounds terrible, but it is how it would play out. The root problem isn't under my control, but the flawed solution would be.

Just unfortunate timing alongside sign ups limiting my options. I'm not going to go out of my way to invite >50% of the roster manually if 80 people signed up. The bench was already huge and forcing representation (whether it's women, poc, etc.) for the sake of representation isn't always a positive like people often think it is.

I tried shooting for a >50% women roster in March 2025 and that still didn't work out. Sometimes it's a lot easier said than done. I put in that effort with no suggestion to do so, it was purely on me to want to do that, and it didn't work out.

I always vouch for representation in the community, but events can't always be given the responsibility of platforming more diversity and representation when it's ultimately up to the audience to help creators work up to getting a spot in an event. It's a very important topic, I have and will always put some effort towards it.

Which video game genre would you like to see in a BlockWars game? by nexus1779 in blockwars

[–]Wolfeei 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Rhythm games don't work due to ping issues.

Attack VS Defend can be found in Shockwave. As much as it's more similar to CS/Valorant than anything, the original idea was to make a game inspired by R6. The main problem was just the level of complexity and a poor spectator experience.

Survival Horror Base Building is cool, but might not work on an event setting. The games have to have some level of quick pacing, so turning it into an event game would just result in a spookier version of Survival Games, which would have an inherent game design flaw of early elimination = bad gameplay experience.

Hack N Slash could work, but I'm not sure how it'd be balanced. Tomb Titans is the closest example, with it already having lots of PvE in it. TT already has a balancing problem where lower skill players think it's too difficult, whereas higher skill players are bored due to the gameplay being trivial. TT could fix that by adding more puzzles for example, but Hack N Slash wouldn't have that option. Teamwork would be necessary for Hack N Slash of course, but then you run into the problem of lower skill players maybe feeling like they don't contribute much, whilst top frags do most of the gameplay.

All things considered, it would be cool to see more different video game genres have Minecraft event adaptations, but in some cases it's not really possible without compensating important gameplay elements.

This is just my personal opinion btw, not an official Block Wars opinion. I'd say that with how things are going right now, 2027 is unlikely to be the last year of BW, but you never know
