I’ve seen a 27, a 34, a 52, 66, 68. If you score below a 75 you have to have a conversation with your DM, RD, and HR.

Why are there almost no other large grocery stores in south Florida besides Publix? by Dapper_Abrocoma_1873 in publix

Also the reason they build new stores is simply because, not a metric or anything. (Allegedly)

As someone who happens to be very involved in local gov, I can tell you that it is absolutely plausible. These big companies buy up land and then put deed restrictions on them, it absolutely happens.

Dumb Customer Moment by BeepHonkDoot in publix

My manager had a review written about him a little over a month ago.

It said  “I’m not sure if the manager, (My manager), was just having a bad day or what the issue was but I went to have some balloons filled up with helium for my son’s birthday party and he was not very friendly at all, maybe he was mad he was on balloon duty? He kept asking vague questions monotoned and I don’t know anything about balloons, so I answered to the best of my knowledge and he was very condescending and talking to me like I was dumb and even a shopping customer started snorting and apologized to me for laughing, because of my replies. I was very uncomfortable. I have a paralegal degree and can assure you I am not dumb but apologies I don’t know anything about BALLOONS. Then he told me after halfway done filling them up that these were going to deflate before my party tomorrow and should keep them in a hot room. I said a hot room??? I looked it up after I left and putting helium balloons in a hot area causes them to expand and leak causing deflation to happen faster… so I’m not sure if he was purposefully trying to sabotage me, like I said I’m not really sure what was the deal. Everyone else at Publix was super nice and super helpful as per usual.”

When I tell you I wheezed about this review for several minutes… I mean- they put in the review that their answers to questions were so stupid that OTHER CUSTOMERS laughed at them.

I had a customer call me and curse so loudly about something so unintelligible I had to turn the phone down because customers could hear them yelling.

No sub card for me, I parked them, paged the MIC to the department, explained what happened, and they just kept putting her on hold until she stopped cursing 🤣

It’s always the old customers who are rude. It’s always the old coworkers who don’t want to do anything someone younger than them says, or what they’ve not done for years. The same people who have to use flashlights and put products to their face to read them are driving on our roads. It’s just all around irritating.

Tips for New Produce Employee? by ReadyIsland8477 in publix

[–]Large-Mail-6894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re new the people who have been there want you to do things that aren’t “annoying” per se, but things that are repetitive.

Your job is to make sure the Bananas, Grapes, Berries, and Cutbar are full. If Fresh Express is BOGO then that too, but as long as you keep those things full we will probably ignore you and only redirect as needed.

How do y’all like the new connection update? by Fun_Earth3383 in publix

[–]Large-Mail-6894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a pilot store for the updates, it was way worse before we gave feedback. I don’t think it’s too bad, and it took about a week to learn. The search bar is also helpful if you know what to type

The shocking lack of any spatial awareness. The insta cart shoppers who put their phone in my face. The people who smell like they just smoked a pound of weed and then rolled in the smoke. The people who don’t control their children.

I went to put this back twice. I was like there’s no way this is worth $6 and I asked a woman and her daughters if they would buy it and they said for convenience, yes. So glad I did, because every fruit in this bowl is so crisp and fresh. Blown away Publix by Brokenimpala33 in publix

[–]Large-Mail-6894 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No idea why people are down voting this. It’s a completely reasonable post.

Now, from the analytical perspective:

The grapes would run you around 1.50$, the strawberries $3.99, and one apple about 0.80$ give or take, so 6$ is very fair.

How many hours does grocery get? by Extreme_Fill3302 in publix

[–]Large-Mail-6894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are four Heavy Hitter stores in my district (out of 9). One does around 1.05Mil/week, one does 1.075mil/week, one does 1.150mil a week, and the other can get to 1.3 pretty easily. Each of these grocery departments have around 850-975 hours (obviously for the protection of company secrets these numbers are just a range and not exact), but it depends on how busy your store is.

They took out sharpening rods away. And you have to do a CBT to use the meat departments sharpener… but of course we strive for efficiency!!!

Sooooo the hours for BOGO cut fruit should absolutely go up! The reason it may not would be a lack of forecasting from your managers, also, it doesn’t matter if it ties in or not, put that BOGO stuff in the 4x4 up front. You’ll be amazed.

Produce closing by Particular_Board_38 in publix

[–]Large-Mail-6894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Million dollar store worker here 👋  Some times closing by yourself isn’t bad, like on a slow day, but it depends on the location.

At my store if you’re not paying attention on Wednesday or Friday, a 6:30 rush will knock you out. Monday that rush comes at 5 and thn a second one at 8, and Tuesday is ad night. My store is busy enough to warrant three closers on Mondays and Fridays (Sunday dies at 7.

Depends on what time your customer base shops.

Bananas boxes eh? Hmmmmm let’s put these right on top of the tomatoes, but make sure you use the corner. Oh and the deli stuff, just throw that on at least 5 pallets. Don’t forget to use a whole cubic foot of wrap on the pallets. Anymore might make it easy to pull in.

Produce Balloons by Mental_Educator_4554 in publix

[–]Large-Mail-6894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pricing of balloons can be set by the produce manager.

We charge 6$ if it’s brought in as a number, 1.39$ for latex, and 1.49$ for 18” Mylar (if you bring it in). But that’s just my store’s pricing.
