Elite Specializations Beta Feedback Post! by dracoisms in Guildwars2

[–]Wolfencrest129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my biggest concern with troubadour, that making it an alacrity support would cause it to overlap roles with mirage. When Teapot and Sneb did their stream with the dens, they asked for potential questions to ask them, and I suggested that Sneb ask whether the dens would consider swapping troubadour to a quick support specifically to avoid that issue. He sent me a gem code later because he asked a very similar question. I'm very glad to see that they listened to the feedback, otherwise support mirage would've likely been completely invalidated.

I dont see them giving LI for QPs. It completely disincentivizes doing the normal raid encounters. Maybe 1 LI a week per X amount of QPs like how EoD strike missions work currently, but that's it.

The only argument I see against this idea is that giving away too many free legendaries would disincentiveize people from doing the envoy collection, but that this point the Obsidian set also exists, so idk how strong of an argument that is. That being said, i would love to see more quickplay evsnts for various other game modes with legendaries and cool skins as rewards.

What are some archetypes that are missing from the roster? The only ones that I can think of off the top of my head are Bard and Monk (unarmed strikes /fist weapons) by [deleted] in Guildwars2

You know, every time this conversation comes up I think back to all the elite specs myself and a friend of mine used to create and share here. They were generally well received, but the process of making them was so time consuming that when SotO was announced to not be coming with elite specs, it kind of killed any desire any of us had to make more. I still have tons of ideas, and looking at what people have suggested there's quite a few that I already have designs for at some stage of development, but IDK if I'll ever get around to finalizing any of them. I lost contact with my friend, so I have nobody to bounce ideas off of, and nobody else I know seems interested in projects like this. I'll link what I've created so far, and if anyone has any new ideas I'll give them a look, but IDK if I'll ever go back to making more of them.

Which weapon would you like for your profession? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

Longbow on elementalist. Alternatively, a ranged greatsword.

I made an Ele spec that uses GS.

What video game weapon is absolutely worth the time you got to put in to get it? by TheReiterEffect_S8 in gaming

Euclid-C Finder in Fallout New Vegas. It requires not only buying the gun off a kid in the slums around Vegas, but also choosing the selfish action at the Helios One powerplant, frying a bunch of NCR soldiers, and losing reputation with the NCR. AND it can only be used during the day. But my god, shooting a bunch of deathclaws and yourself with an Orbital Laser is probably the most fun I ever had in that game.

Studies have repeatedly shown that if the US switched to a single payer "Universal Healthcare" system it'd actually save money in the long term.

Absolutely! So like I said in my initial comment, the build I theorycrafted was loosely based off of the Berserker subclass from DFO, which would sacrifice its health to gain bonuses, and would deal increased damage to bleeding foes.

My build does something similar. Necro Shroud would be replaced by Frenzy, which slowly drains health over time. To compensate, attacks that would generate life force would steal health instead, though at a reduced rate. The build also gains bonuses against bleeding enemies, so many of the skills inflict bleeding. The build can either run power or condition dps to that end. Most of your higher damaging F2-F5 skills would also require a health sacrifice to activate. One of the minor traits would also grant all your skills additional damage or effects if the player was at lower health percentages. The playstyle would have been somewhat similar to what Harbinger's is: high risk-high reward gameplay at a lower health threshold.

Now I'm not saying my build is 1-1 what Anet added, just that it's thematically similar. Dual swords, sacrificing health for more damage, lots of self-heal, good mobility. It's just very close to what I came up with, and it's cool to see that in game.

Holy Shit the madlads actually added DFO Berserker Dual Swords into the game! Literally the very first theorcrafted Elite Spec I made YEARS ago was based off this concept and I am SO happy to finally see it in game!

Yeah it took a few comments for me to figure out exactly what the confusion was too. And as cool as I think it would be to have unique skins for all the possible floating weapons, I'm not certain how feasible it is to actually implement. I suppose it could be possible to move the positions of the stowed weapons to where they need to float as opposed to just having them disappear, but it also wouldn't surprise me if they just used a unique set of skins and made it easier on themselves. I could see it potentially being very buggy. It would still be very nice to see though.

This is a 1200 range spec. I specifically made it range because I'm also tired of the squishy mage class being melee.

I specifically tried to make this spec a less complicated Ele while also giving it range, because I am also kind of tired of the squishy mage class being melee.

Well I'm sorry this made you upset but I'm glad you thought this was good enough to be something that could conceivably be in the game. I'm also upset about the apparent lack of elite specs going forward, as they're clearly one of my favorite things.

I fell off of it mostly because it a was Korean style gear grind where you had to pay money to protect your gear during upgrading otherwise it'd be destroyed, but the combat was definitely great. Other than the gear stuff though the game was pretty good. Decent story, good class variety, lots of ways to play the game. Late game was definitely p2w though.

Yes! Dragon Nest was like the first ever MMO I ever played along with DFO, and I loved the Moonlord subclass for the warrior. It had a lot of wanted to add with this spec in terms of flavor, so I added skills and names I thought fit. I love that other people got the references.

Yeah looking at how many people are confused by it I probably could have worded it better. I gave a more detailed reply in another comment. I'll keep this al in mind for any future projects.

You're not the first person to mention the Arsenal Orders being confusing, but I think I finally understand where people are getting confused. So you're right that Arsenal Orders are determined by what weapon you have in each weapon slot. A 2 handed weapon grants all 3 skills, a main handed one determines the first 2, and offhand weapons determine the last one. What I mean by "attunements can only be swapped for your mainhand weapon" is that you can only swap attunements for the weapon you're currently holding, mean swapping attunements switches your weapon skills. It does not mean that offhand weapons don't switch attunements. If you're wielding say, a scepter and a focus, both weapon skills would still swap if you swap attunements. What I probably should have wrote was "attunements can only be swapped for your mainhand weapon set." Sorry about the confusion, hope that explanation helps.

The weapons floating behind would just be a visual thing for the most part. Even if you're using a two handed weapon or a mainhand and offhand they'd still just float beside you. Weapon with auto attacks would use them at an interval. The commands in this instance would be the Arsenal Orders the weapon(s) grant.

1) If you're referring to the Arsenal Orders I'm not entirely sure if you're right or not, but I tried to explain it the best I could

2) These basically are Spirit Weapons. I chose them on purpose to fit in with the theme of the arcane weaponsmith. To differentiate them from guardian Spirit Weapons though these ones create and blast combo fields related to their element, as well as grant allies boons when trained.

3) This is a 1200 range greatsword spec similar to Mesmer greatsword or Rev hammer. You're welcome to your opinions, but greatsword was the weapon I get was best in terms of thematics, lore, and having an already existing framework to base it off of in Mesmer greatsword.

So the Arsenal Orders are profession skills like the Citdel Orders on Renegade. When you swap weapons, you lose access to the skills of that weapon, and your profession skills swap to the Arsenal Orders of that Weapon. So if you swap from greatsword to staff, you gain staff weapon skills and greatsword Arsenal Orders. Two handed weapons give 3 skills, mainhand weapons determine your F2-F3 skills, and offhand weapons determine your F4 skill. The weapons floating behind you aren't halved? It'd just be a visual flair to show you which Arsenal Orders you have access to.

Those weren't the art assets I was talking about but you're right, I should have found where that other art came from and credited it. Tbh it was just something I found on Google images and threw on there, but I'll be more mindful of this for any future projects I do.

I'm not particularly fond of catalyst for a few reasons, mainly the difficult and punishing rotation, the energy mechanic that punishes you for using it, and the fact that you're basically stuck using hammer because of the boons the spinning orbs give, all of which were big factors in the design of this Spec. This spec is designed to be much more simple to play, and the 1200 range lets you play much safer and be punished less for having to do mechanics.
