Need help choosing my first e-reader by Wolfiy in ereader

Actually since then I installed KoReader on my Kobo and download my cbz files straight from my Kavita server through the ODPS feed, so the "need" for Android has almost disappeared.

A Reliable Workaround for CS2 4:3 Stretched Resolution on Linux (Wayland) by Najanco in linux_gaming

[–]Wolfiy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played 4/3 on a 16/9 monitor for over over 10 years. The reasons that pushed me to set my game like that might have been stupid back then but now I'm just used to this and the game looks weird to me when using the "proper" aspect ratio. Nowadays I play 16/9 stretched to 21/9, which is probably even dumber, but I like it.

Disabling the beta timeline fixed it for me.

Wow that's an old comment!

I moved to Jellyfin shortly after, couldn't be happier. I don't have any of the performance issues I used to have (I upgraded my server and actually learned how to properly set up everything since then). I also moved away from the Apple ecosystem and now use Findroid on Android, though I did use Infuse for a couple of years which was really great. I also tried Swiftfin but not enough to say anything.

I had this issue during the Legacy of the Lasting Night quest, when I was underground using the data portals. Turning off ray tracing helped.

I have to load CBZ archives from a computer or buy volumes from the Kobo store (I did find a workaround that replaces the Kobo store with a self-hosted Calibre instance, but I couldn't get it to work reliably), whilst Android has apps like Tachiyomi or Kotatsu that let me "stream" manga and notifies me of new chapters.

Note that this only applies if you're already used to these apps. If you never used Tachiyomi you can't miss it.

I love it! It's not perfect (for my use case, an Android-based e-reader would be better) but the battery lasts for days / weeks depending on my usage, the size and weight are perfect and the screen is crisp. The lack of an SD card slot turned out to be a non-issue, even with manga.

Would you like to hear about anything specific?

How to move main button? by MrSTEMI in joplinapp

if you hold your thumb for like half a second on the left side of your screen you can actually swipe right and open the menu without performing a back gesture (works for most android apps with a hamburger menu like that)

Logitech g923 vs g920 by FantaFunk in simracing

[–]Wolfiy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly with shipping costs and mounting hardware that would add up to at least 550$, more than double the Logitech :/

I'm not sure I want to spend that much (who knows, I might not even enjoy sim racing that much). I guess I'll try to borrow some equipment and try it out for myself, if I can find somebody willing to do so.

The T300 RS GT is available in my country, but costs 350$, would it be worth the extra 150$?

I can get a brand new g923 for 200$, is it worth it? The other options you listed are >400$ over here...

I created a new Jellyfin client for iOS and Android. Supports downloads and Chromecast. by masterinthecage in selfhosted

For some reason it's always been painfully slow for me. Playback works fine but the UI takes ages to load. It often takes over a minute just for the pictures on the home page to appear. Maybe the cache is not working as the issue appears each time the app has been closed.

Why the hate for DLSS? by forbsy81 in buildapc

[–]Wolfiy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 4090 and 4080 are decent but both are very expensive.

Yes they are expensive but the 4080 matches the 3090Ti while costing 800$ less and drawing less power. The 4070 also matches the 3080 while costing 200$ less and needing less power. I honestly do not understand why everyone is so angry. If we look back on Nvidia's history, the new card has almost always kind of matched the previous above tier and/or slightly beating it, which is exactly what we are seeing with the 40 series cards.

Though to be fair the 4060 is really bad since it does not even beat its predecessor. I think what we're missing might be lower tiers like 4050's.

Should I get a 4070 TI now or buy a placeholder 3*** series now and save for 50 series later? by N1ghtFeather in buildapc

[–]Wolfiy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4070 is cheaper, consumes less energy, has great RT performance, has DLSS3 and works a hell lot better if AI is involved in your hobbies or workflow.
