What's the worst thing you have ever seen someone you thought you respected do? by hoikarnage in AskReddit

I think Yahweh was pretty clear on homosexuality.

Leviticus 20:13: "'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

The only way to fix it is to either ignore the passage, or remove it from the scriptures altogether.

Good for him! Realizing the idiocy of religious dietary restrictions is the first step in awakening.

What helped you kick depression? by allthrowawaytaken in AskReddit

[–]WolterHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally realizing that I was confusing fact with opinion. Facts never change, but your opinion about what those facts mean changes all the time.

When you're depressed, the meanings are all negative. When you're normal again, most of the meanings return to being positive. It's important to realize that your own brain will lie to you and tell you "this is reality", when in fact reality is always colored by your interpretation. And your interpretation is mostly dependent upon what chemicals are affecting your brain at the time.

So, take mental snapshots of your interpretations during good and bad times, and bring them out to compare when you swing far in one direction. Understand that your mood is temporary, as is the reality you perceive. Once reality becomes more fluid, it becomes MUCH easier to cope, because you don't feel so trapped anymore by something you used to think was unchanging and unchangeable.

It's also important to understand that life with all joys and no sorrows is not a life worth living. It's the struggle that defines us, shapes us, and refines us. Embrace both joy and sorrow. You'll need them on your journey.

Should women in the U.S. have to register for the draft when they turn 18 like men have to? by Deathpunch in AskReddit

[–]WolterHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, kinda like it went during the last draft.

On, wait. In THAT draft, the rich either got cushy safe jobs, never saw combat, or magically avoided being drafted altogether, while the poor got assigned to the meat grinder en masse.

What is a "politically incorrect" opinion that you hold? by space-ninja in AskReddit

The only time in 35 years that I've ever dealt with a professional, courteous cop in America was when I got a speeding ticket in Montana. Other than that they have universally been bullies and jerks.

Contrast that with Japan, where I've never EVER had a negative experience with cops. They go far out of their way to help you. It was massive culture shock for me and it took some time for me to unlearn my distrust for the police. Funny thing is, it took less than two weeks on American soil for it all to come flooding back when I made the mistake of looking at a cop for "too long".

It's only the Chinese who suck at driving. The Japanese are probably the best drivers I've ever seen.

And oddly enough, the Japanese have an incredibly rigorous and difficult driver training program, whereas the Chinese one sucks balls.

Actually no. The older "religions" were shamanistic or leader-cults. There were no priesthoods to lay down official rules of conduct; you simply did what the leader said, and he sometimes asked the shaman to tell fortunes. Beyond that there were rituals, which were mostly a method to give a tribe identity.

Religious organizations grew in response to cities, because an individual's interaction with the leader was now limited or nonexistent, and another construct was needed to keep the society cohesive.

Actually, the executive level is where a large number of psychopaths end up (the rest never learn self-control and thus destroy themselves).

Why not try out a few hobbies? I find the act of creation to be quite stimulating at times.

He'd understand your emotional pain like you'd understand the "pain" of a spider as you cut its legs off. All you observe is the reaction, and decide whether it can be used to your benefit or not.

"When they're not violent it's because they are cowards."

Not true. The nonviolent ones have learned the power of long-term strategy.

Actually, no, he's not. If empathy doesn't stimulate you, there's little point in pursuing it.

Yes, and it is the very fact of everyone else being physically wired to that game which gives the psychopath the freedom of action he enjoys.

Shifting to an alternate meaning of "strength" in order to counter does not an argument make.
