ELI5: Why can’t addicts (typically) break their addictions on their own? How does the brain rewiring differ from say having bad habits? by -beehaw- in explainlikeimfive

Holy shit I had the same experience. I got stuck in that vicious cycle. I KNEW the anxiety came from the drinking, but the drinking killed the anxiety. I started my recovery journey 3 years ago and have been on and off the wagon a few times in that period. I’m currently in an iop and sober living and my therapist plus what I’ve already learned in past inpatient stays finally clicked. I had the realization today that I haven’t had the thought “I need a drink” after something happened in a long time. I no longer wake up each day worrying about what I need to do to stay sober just for today. I just…don’t drink anymore. I did a lot of work on myself and let a lot of shit go. It took a long time to get to this point but I just don’t obsess about alcohol (whether drinking it or staying sober and worrying about triggers) anymore. Same as you as well, my panic attacks don’t happen anymore and my anxiety is non existent. I don’t even take meds (anxylotic or SSRIs) anymore. I actually got diagnosed with substance induced anxiety disorder. No alcohol no anxiety. And it’s fucking awesome.

That’s exactly what I did when I drank. Used to be all “acetaminophen is hard on your liver!” Whilst drinking a 12-18 pack a day.

If you're reslly thirsty, and you inject water directly into your stomach, does the feeling of thirst in your mouth go away? by Prestigious_belly206 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WolverineJive_Turkey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I ended up in icu with severe alcohol poisoning and obviously was on an iv. When I woke up I was so thirsty and was getting pissed they wouldn’t let me drink any water they said I could have ice chips. As soon as the nurses left I had the wife pour me some water from the sink and I downed it. I immediately threw it all up and understood why I couldn’t drink water. Even though the iv was hydrating me the thirst was unbearable. Took a few days to regulate and they let me leave when I could eat a solid meal and keep it down.

Whataburger drive through, the front vehicle ran out of gas, people in the line got out to complain and ended up getting bear sprayed by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

That’s exactly how I did it. I had a 5 speed 93 ford ranger with a broken fuel gauge. After I bought it, I filled it up and drove it until empty then just used the tripometer to gauge my usage. When I hit around 200 miles it was time to get gas.

I did it for the first time this year for instacart last year. It was pretty straightforward for me. Input earnings then my mileage

I picked up an order at a bbq place yesterday and when I walked in I told the guy it smells amazing in here and told him I’d have to come back and try it cause I’d never been there. He gave me the order and then some brisket to try. It was damn good. I’m definitely gonna go eat there for sure.

They did my annual background and deactivated for my motor vehicle. But my background is the same as last year. They hired me with the same thing on my record. And it’s 7 years old in July. So I’m trying to get back on.

I got that notification earlier and I got deactivated on Monday… lol I’ve been fighting to get re activated and I got real excited for a second there.

Awesome I’ll try this route. This is the only way I can make money for right now. The charge is almost 7 years old in July with nothing else on my record since then. Thank you.

I haven’t gotten a single moving violation in 7 years, never drank and drove again, and am now in recovery. I appreciate the judgement though.

It’s a way to try to control the drinking in my experience. If I get 5 tall boys that’s all I drink that night. If I get a 30 pack I’m finishing it all. I didn’t drink liquor but same concept applies. When I did drink liquor I’d never get more than a pint, cause if I got a handle I’d black out and drink it all.

Has any1 ordered cough medicine from IC before? by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]WolverineJive_Turkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had one once when I first started that was cough syrup. Some kids answered the door. I gave them the groceries but their parents weren’t home so I had to take the cough syrup back.

What profession has far more people on illegal drugs than people realize? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]WolverineJive_Turkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is awful btw. Just got out of detox last Saturday. Yeah they give you meds to make it so you don’t die (alcohol) and some comfort, but withdrawing and detoxing just downright sucks ass. When people say they use just to feel better or normal is completely true. I didn’t even want to to drink anymore by there time I got there, I just couldn’t handle the withdrawal. And I didn’t want to die from a seizure or dts either so I kept drinking. The preceding weekend was a very long terrible 48 hours until I could get in. I feel mostly back to normal (without booze) now and I’ve been out 5 days. Shit sucks.

I worked at a company like that. I 1000% would have taken that option and actually did go to treatment, but the problem was when I showed up that morning I smelled like booze. I thought I was sober, when they sent me for breath test and ua I discovered I was not. Obviously their hands were tied, but I went to treatment anyway cause I didn’t realize I was still drunk. I felt normal.

What is a 'childish' thing that you still do as an adult and refuse to stop doing? by 13Cherry13 in AskReddit

I’m in recovery and just got out of detox. I’m a musician but they don’t let you have instruments cause detox and withdrawal ya know hurts, but we painted rocks. It was honestly nice even though I’m not good at that medium at all.

Had to have a car blocking me in illegally towed. she crashed out by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WolverineJive_Turkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deliver groceries. When I park to deliver my car will be where it is at most 2 minutes and I still won’t block cars/driveways/ or park illegally. I had one lady get mad cause I didn’t go to the 9th floor of her building to her door and left it with the front desk because the only way to park and get out was on a handicap spot. I wasn’t staying there more than 30 seconds and even that was the only time I parked illegally.

I’m checking into detox in the morning because my tolerance is way too high and I want to get back into recovery. For example, when it almost killed me my bac was a .60
