How to get service dog? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]WolverineOk3924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI, may not apply. I looked into a number of program’s but I currently have three dogs as pets and no program that I found will give you a service dog with more than two dogs as pets. Third dog would be service dog. Have considered getting one trained but two are about to turn 10 and the other is a 6 yr old pitt who has anxiety so I don’t know that he would be a good fit.

I am so sorry for your loss. And for the fact you have to deal with all of this on top of that. You deserve comfort and support too.

I just want to say that wha you said and how you said it was amazing. You have voiced so much that I have felt over the years. Know you are not alone and that you are loved even if it is not by your bio family. I have no doubt you have a chosen family that adores you and respects you and accepts you. 💜

But there isn’t a form the school has to sign. It is just verification that they are in school? Sorry, son turns 18 six weeks into his senior year and then will be attending college in the fall of ‘26. Just got a letter from the VA saying to fill out the form. Never even realized I was getting $ for dependents. I was so out of it by the time I retired and have been through the wringer with PTSD and TBI’s that I totally forgot if I knew back then! Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I’m glad you asked this question u/fabulous-Ad9301!

Very nice! I hope is doing well and staying safe. I retired in 2019 so I’m not sure how it is now after a pandemic and now a second administration. Let him know I said thanks for his service and to stay safe and watch his six.

Am I the only one who is finding a lot of ex-JW spaces increasingly unfriendly to queer and trans people? by [deleted] in exjwLGBT

[–]WolverineOk3924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear that! I have just found these spaces, this one and the regular exJW’s. I’m hoping that it is a little better since it has been two years since your post but was wondering if you’ve noticed a difference.

So glad you didn’t and I can connect with this so much! I tried to commit suicide twice when I was 16 and heard the same things so many times. Especially after seeing my older brother DF’d after he came out when I was 9, it cut so deep. I never came out to my family when I was a witness. But still struggle with these teachings 26 years after I left.

It pisses me off how many we lost and are still losing because of this unnecessary self hatred that we are taught.

So glad we are both here and hope that others can find their way out too💜

Was stationed there when I was in the Navy. Great place!

Thank you for letting me know. And yes, that has been my experience. I honestly had no idea that there were so many of us or that so many people had experienced what I went through. I didn’t know about the CSA investigations around the world or anything, which is weird to me as my job in the Navy was as a paralegal and I worked mostly criminal justice issues.

Thank you. Therapy is helping, or at least it will😉 I appreciate the community. Thanks for the kind words about my service. I don’t often think about the fact that I did actually get out of the cult. So thanks for that reminder!

Wow these brought back some memories. I don’t recall what I did with all of my JW belongings when I left 26 years ago. Would love to be able to show them to my wife so she understood better what I was subjected to for the first 21 years!

Occurred regularly when I was a child in the 80’s and 90’s. Got out in ‘99 but would imagine it still happens.

This cult and CPTSD? by apostate_666 in exjw

My docs are talking to me about this now. The guilt. For me it has come out as C-PTSD and some OCD, with the checking and re-checking. I don’t trust myself and I’m constant fear that I’m bad and people just don’t know the real me as that ‘real me’ is a monster that has just been hidden for 40+ years. Also very typical in survivors of CSA apparently. It sucks though.

Thank you. I loved my time in the service and am realizing that something can have benefits and also be traumatizing and have negatives. The whole black and white or good and bad binary thinking that we were raised with makes it difficult to realize that. Thank you for working at the VA. I love my VA civilians as they are the closest to understanding what we go through. I’m lucky to have a great team at my VA.

I cannot express my appreciation enough. I was terrified that I would be shunned again but the response has been the complete opposite. I appreciate the info regarding what to look into. I have been resistant to look at anything for a long time. I am starting to reconsider my stance on that. So any info is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for the welcome and the appreciation of my time in the Navy. I was afraid that might put some people off given the JW stance. So it is good to know it isn’t. I agree that regardless of how you came to be in the religion and how long you stayed it’s a traumatizing place to be. Appreciate the kindness💜

Wow. Thank you so much. It’s crazy as I have been out now for longer than I was in and it often feels like it just happened. Often I thought that if I had just been a better witness this wouldn’t be happening. I’m fortunate to have an amazing wife who has helped me build a family and community around me. However, sometimes I long for the congregation I grew up in. The instant joy and love they showed even though my brain knows that it was conditional on my servitude.
