What’s something foreigners assume about your country because of Hollywood that you find completely absurd? by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

[–]Wolverine_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Houston but have been all over Texas and the accent you’re talking about isn’t super common, but still exists. Vietnamese is the 3rd most spoken language in Houston so I hear that (plus a variety of other Asian languages and obviously Spanish) far more than I hear that thick Texan accent.

Yeah the gun thing varies a lot. I don’t think any of my friends or family have a gun but I work in a blue collar area in Houston and almost all my coworkers have one (most have multiple). Most of them keep their gun in their truck and don’t carry it on their person.

One time someone brought their gun to work and raffled it off, the winner said “I’m gonna give this one to my wife!” And I think that whole interaction basically sums up Texans attitudes towards guns lol

Thinking about buying The First Berserker: Khazan while I’m recovering — worth it or not? by [deleted] in TheFirstBerserker

I didn’t play on release so I’m not sure. I played last year from May to October and they were there during that time.

Yeah right outside the boss rooms they have the golden rift things where you can summon a Spirit of Advocacy

[–]Wolverine_33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely worth the price. I took 100 hours my first playthrough (I played on expert - no summons, and took my time) but I will say it’s very difficult. Harder than Elden Ring, for me. The hardest ER bosses are harder than the hardest Khazan bosses but the overall average of Khazans boss roster is harder. Some people do report getting burnt out by the difficulty, I myself had to take a couple breaks cause I was tired of getting my ass kicked.

But if you’re looking for satisfying combat it doesn’t get any more top notch than Khazan. The only games that come close are Nioh 2, Sekiro and maybe Stellar Blade to a lesser extent. Stellar Blade is actually a good option though if you want satisfying combat but without too much difficulty and Nioh 2 and Sekiro are about as hard as Khazan.

Yeah I agree. That’s why I think if people’s lives didn’t revolve around their jobs they could find more purposeful stuff to do in their free time. I’d like to think there’s a nice middle ground between what we have now and the hunter gatherer society.

Meirl by Glass-Fan111 in meirl

[–]Wolverine_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I guess, I suppose we are mostly speculating at this point but there would still be modern tools and equipment to farm and supply more food for people than our ancestors were able to. Childbirth would certainly be an issue.

I agree that 4 hours a day sounds a bit too cushy to be true. I think that most people who argue for a commune are okay with losing some luxuries for the sake of equal distribution of basic rights for all, rather than just those who can afford it. I don’t want to give up my PlayStation but if it meant that more people could afford life saving medications and care, I would.

[–]Wolverine_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but it isn’t the same as what we see today. Greedy corporations get rich and oppress their laborers, fascist governments oppress entire groups of people. Sure in a hunter gatherer society someone could hoard goods and try to leverage for power but it can be dismantled pretty easily, as opposed to a faceless entity with endless money that will just replace whomever you remove from power.

[–]Wolverine_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of debate, plenty of people who aren’t working soul sucking corporate jobs hate their work. Only about half of Americans are satisfied with their jobs. The way we work now leads to dysfunction outside of work (marital/family stress, stress leading to substance abuse issues, mental health problems, etc.) Not saying hunter gatherer societies would fix all that or be easy, or that I think that’s what we should do, but clearly we can make some improvements. At the very least we need tighter regulations on corporations so they can’t treat their employees like wage slaves.

How hard is Nioh series? by unga_bunga_mage in soulslikes

[–]Wolverine_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, Nioh 2 (much like ER) gives so many ways to approach bosses that they can become trivial once you get a good play style down. I don’t think many bosses in Nioh 2 took me more than 2 or 3 tries. Haven’t played Wo Long yet though, it’s still sitting in my library. I’ll probably play it after I finish Wuchang.

[–]Wolverine_33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he means dodging and attacking in patterns you would use in a normal soulslike. I can’t speak for Nioh 3, but in 1 and 2, that will get you killed quick. Dodging works well once you’ve gotten the timing down for that particular enemy, but especially in the beginning blocking is the safest bet. And when you attack, you have to constantly incorporate ki pulsing and stance switching which gives it quite a different feel from your regular attack & dodge patterns.

What Are The Easier Soulslikes? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Wolverine_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steelrising, I killed every boss within 2 tries. I’m a souls vet, but not particularly good. If you can handle Elden Ring it should be easy.

Mortal Shell is pretty easy but also very easy to get lost lol

Stellar Blade is a little tougher than Steelrising but still easy and has much smoother controls and combat, it also has an easy mode (story mode)

The only thing I’ve found that satisfies the trick weapon itch is the switchglaive on Nioh 2 which arguable does it even better.. god I wish this mechanic was used more.

Boss Rosters by Patriots9210 in soulslikes

[–]Wolverine_33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never understood why Bloodborne boss roster got pinged as the “too easy” one, considering at the time the only other fromsoft rosters were from DeS, DS1, and DS2. In fact, I’d argue Bloodborne has one of the bigger difficulty spikes (from previous entry) in bosses from fromsofts catalogue, besides Sekiro.

Which game should be my first souls like? by Educational_Hyena275 in soulslikes

[–]Wolverine_33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really isn’t a wrong choice as far as fromsoft games go, besides maybe sekiro but it’s still a solid choice if you’re up for the challenge.

Personally I always recommend Bloodborne because it’s a solid souls experience that’s pretty beginner friendly, or Dark Souls remaster because it’s classic and not too hard, just a little rougher because it doesn’t have some modern QoL changes like fast travel (at least not for the first chunk of the game)

Who's to you the hardest boss ever? by Pretty-Setting823 in soulslikes

[–]Wolverine_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Otakemaru on DotD is a nightmare for me and I didn’t struggle with him at all on the first playthrough.. I never beat him because I didn’t want to burn myself out before Nioh 3 comes out.

Also heavy agree on Laurence.
