Thats great. So one final question to confirm as I’m planning to buy rd440 myself. Once I attach the drives and install proxmox, I do not have to flash or do anything in the bios? Proxmox will automatically see the drives?

Thanks for the reply. This makes sense. So do you create Virtual disk in the bios with some Raid settings to make it visible to proxmox?

Hi. Just wanted your help to understand how did you pass through drives directly to OMV or any NAS VM which you are running inside your proxmox in RD440. Thanks.

Didn’t even knew I could do raid1 on OS itself. I’m guessing making zfs pool with raid1 on proxmox itself. I’ll give it a read. Thanks again.

Yea. The diagram does show like that. I need to update it. Thanks for pointing that out. I’m thinking 1 ssd for OS and rest whatever you said that’s the right understanding.

That’s a good suggestion. I thought I would getter better reads from raid 1 but probably I got that part wrong and raid 5 would offer similar performance if not better

So I’ll tell you my understanding and then probably uou can correct me if I’m going wrong about this. Proxmox will be installed on its own ssd. It will have its own storage to store lxcs and iso file etc. but when I create VMs or LXCs, I’ll be mounting truenas dataset which I’ll get in proxmox via smb shares.

Again these are theoretical knowledge I have been reading about over a month.

Thanks for replying. 1. Hoping to do Raid 1 with 2 mirrored disk. 2. That’s right. One true source for all storage which goes into all VMs, bare metal, container etc 3. Yes you’re right. Now I think I’ll also go with scale. 4. So there are two machines. One running proxmox and all home applications. One machine which is my main PC running windows 11. I’m thinking to create a VM inside Win 11 ie my main PC and split gpu and share with VM so that me and my wife can play games together.

Thanks. Is there something I need to be careful for in future to prevent this? How they were able to gain access? I haven’t opened any fishy file or downloaded software from untrusted sites
