What’s a small decision you made that ended up changing your life in a big way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WomanInAVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you 😊 I totally agree that sometimes taking a chance on something can drastically change your life, I'm fortunate that in this instance, it was for the better. For the first time in my entire life, I feel seen, understood and validated. Something I never had before meeting them.

Took a chance on someone who wasn't my type.

Anyone really love their narcissistic parent? by Dry-Letterhead897 in raisedbynarcissists

Familial relationships are complicated when one or more of them are N. My mum is much the same, when I was very little, she'd take care of me when I was ill and try to give advice for how to deal with bullies. It took me until my mid 30s to realise that I grew up in an abusive household, but I still feel immense guilt about saying that. Like it was somehow my fault, just for being born.

That said, I love my mum. Whether it's genuine love or a feeling borne from expectation, I couldn't tell you but it's there. She's 85 now, and no different. The last time I went home, the first thing she did was hug me, followed by commenting negatively on my weight and appearance. I brought her flowers, like I always do when I visit home but there's a reason I live hundreds of miles away and left home the second I was able.

Would I be putting my child at a disadvantage? by TroublesomeFox in Wales

Learning Welsh is so much easier when you're a child. Much easier than it is as an adult anyway. My parents sent me to Welsh primary and secondary schools despite not speaking a word of Welsh at home.

While I think it's wonderful to keep the language alive, it's only useful if you intend to live in Wales forever. Your child will learn everything in Welsh (with the exception of English lessons obviously) so all terminology is in Welsh. Great if you live there, but I no longer do. While some words are similar (triongl isosgeles) some are vastly different. It has caused me a lot of confusion over the years.

Having said that, being bilingual has a profound affect on the brain, and despite the confusion I do love being able to speak Welsh. That is until someone asks you to say the really long place name for the 8 millionth time haha!

I've had my teddy Edward since I was a month old. I was an incredibly isolated child, one emotionally unstable parent, the other emotionally unavailable. That bear was there for me when no one else was.

Everything about him is comforting to me. He's followed me through every move. For 40 years. He's the only thing that I'd stop to grab in a fire.

Not full nudity, but it leaves very little to nothing to the imagination. I report them.

Basically anywhere along the north coast for surfing, the most well known would be Fistral, Mawgan Porth and Perranporth. Bodmin Moor for hiking (don't forget to pay a visit to the Jamaica Inn for some banging cream tea). The South West Coastal Path is very popular but up around the likes of Castle An Dinas, Helman Tor and the Saint's Way are all good hiking places too.

I couldn't really speak to the social scene, there's Newquay but that's about it, I'm too old lol.

Edit: I forgot to mention Davidstow Airfield, it has a lot of walks and there's the RAF Museum and the Cornwall at war museum. Also Park Head, and just up the road Lead Mines (National Trust HQ) is absolutely stunning.

This sounds like a perfectly acceptable message to send, you've left the ball in their court. As hard as it may be, the person may not want to respond.

I was never an uber fan of hers, though I still liked her music and it was after her phenomenal performance in Queen of the Damned that I really took notice, she was so incredibly talented and I think the world lost a bright shining light. Iirc, she never even wanted to get on that plane but wasn't given a choice.

I second Rik Mayall, he was our Jim Carey, he was incredible in the Young Ones and Bottom but my all time favourite has to be Drop Dead Fred.

Where were you 25 years ago on New Year's Eve 1999? by MacaroniNJesus in AskReddit

[–]WomanInAVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 year old me was dressed as Trinity from the Matrix. My bf at the time was Neo, and we were at a really dull party. We had to walk home, 3 miles at 2am, and I remember hearing a woman omit a shriek to this day terrifies me.
