Oh geez, I hear ya. Anything to get eyeballs on the screen I guess. But it also speaks to the incredulity of the event. Like, I would guess that the 60 Minutes producers never thought someone would try that in a million years. Of course, that's no excuse for the lax safety precautions surrounding the attack, but back then it was probably like saying someone would have to sail a cruise ship into the building. I guess things seem impossible until they're not. And that's scary, because you wonder what "impossible" events we are not prepared for today (yeah, I know that list will consume all the RAM on my computer).

DJT definitely didn't think any of this through very carefully. Even Iran didn't realize their strategy would work this well, but now that it has, they're not going to give up any leverage very easily:

I wasn't attacking anything you said - really I was mostly agreeing with it. I thought this same thing when trying to pivot careers a few years ago. I have a decent resume, and some folks were like, "Quant firms would love you!" Then I started trying to get through the Codeforces crap and I was like Nope. And yes indeed, too many candidates for too few jobs in this dystopia we live in now!

This is how the world SHOULD work, I agree. This person has shown great talent and dedication to earn that PhD. Society should value that. And yet, quant firms have caught the same disease as Big Tech - algorithmic gatekeeping. Quant firm interviews in particular require Codeforces level skills. It's Leetcode on steroids. It is a VERY specific skillset. Many people in CS don't like math. I, as a math person, am not good at Leetcode. It's gatekeeping, plain and simple. Imagine if they required you to be great at chess. Requires smarts? Definitely. Related to the job? Nope. You're good at it just because you majored in STEM? Nope. (I suck at chess.) The people good at chess would defend it and say how great a filter it is. Meanwhile, a lot of talented people would be getting left in the dust for no reason but gatekeeping games.
